Thanks Nick, allot of request for these so just decided to jump in and make one 4 part series. these blocks were a thought when i was thinking about how to make it consistent. Gonna need a level 5 for the top dogs.
Can you do a video showing how to get the greatest depth out of both the Manticore and the D2? A buddy and I have a permission on an early 1800s house. We've been there already and only came out with mostly 1950s (and newer) coins and other finds. That was right around the time the area around the 1800s house was developed with streets and other houses added (fill dirt was put in around the house, but at least it's clean without much junk). I've got what I think are pretty good settings based on some deep stuff in my test garden, but I'd like to see what someone else develops too. Thanks!
I can but i only have the 9” coil for the D2. No need for the 11” for what i use it for. You will get an extra 1” out of the 11” in my soil but i think it can be more if your soil is very mild. Those old houses most of the time recovery speed is more important than depth but if the ground is fairly clean you got lucky. If you put the D2 in Deep HC with a low recovery of 1 you will be punching pretty deep. Same with the Manticore.
Great test, nice work. What is the downside of setting and leaving the silencer at zero instead of 2? Seemed to really make difference as the targets got harder. But what do lose?
Hey Bill, silencer is a filter so potentially letting in some extra ground mineral noise and nails at 0. On cleaner sites it would not be an issue. Allot of users use 0 even relic hunting.
Not relevant now because of the D2 update, but the Deus 2 discrimination level affects this test. You adjusted the Manticore iron and the D2 silencer, silencer and discrim kinda work together. Nice test all the same thanks
i have a new 900 and I hate the cam locks. No matter how much I tighten the lower one,, the coil rotates and I have to constantly straighten it. this is hunting in fields and talll grass, but happens as well when I'm hugging the ground with it. I've heard the Manti has the same problem. Heck, minelabs manual says not to tighen it but leave it loose. Have you experienced this? I'm ready to sell mine.
I have had mine in the woods and its not bad it has turned on me before and the coil lugg has loosened up a at times but not enough to aggravate me. The 900 and Manticore have the same shaft so I’m sure it happens on both.
You can try to put a piece of tape or even spray some bedline(non-metalic) spray on the spot you usually have it locked to essentially thicken the shaft. That should in theory make it tight. Same old ML quality I suppose. 😆
Try notching out iron instead of discing it out. I have my disc at 0 (beach sensitive, lowest disc will go) and notch from 0-6.6. Can hear targets next to iron, and the ID doesn't lock on the iron like you are showing.
Semantically speaking, isn’t Notch and Discrimination supposed to be one in the same? Notch can discriminate out a single target ID or multiple ID’s, while Discrimination will notch all target ID’s below the Discriminate value chosen on the menu……In other words, if the functionality of Notching iron or Discriminating iron produces different results when unmasking a non-ferrous target next to iron, this clearly looks like an anomaly in the XP software that should be updated in the next sw release….No doubt, I think most XPD2 users are hoping the next update will resolve having to treat discrimination and Notch as separate entities that produce different results.
@@IffySignals I've got both the maticore, and the d2 with 2 coils. I also really like the 9 inch. Do you think the coil size make much difference in yourseperation tests? Would a smaller coil give a little edge to the d2 in this situation?
The 9” might. In these both targets are under the coil at the same time. Not sure how the 11” would do. If i end up getting one in the future ill try it.
Hey Brandon, yes most programs do well on the D2 with separation as long as you have the Disc and Silencer low. Even General will hit these if you drop the Disc and silencer. Best audio though would be a pitch or two tone audio due to the VDI drop.
Hey Iffy, Keep the knowledge flowing. I've got a 600 and am inexperienced. I was going to uprade to 900, but if the Xterra pro has the same audio potential I'd get it then have a back-up.
I like the tests you do, I'm curious to see how the Legend performs. Been in some really Iron infested sites and have done pretty well. I'm sure i am missing targets still
Everyone does of course because you can't set your machine up for situations you can' see under ground like they do in these tests. You just have to keep pounding the same ground with different settings in different directions with different coils and digging a lot of holes to get the most you can.
As a person who still uses an Etrac exclusively, and is on the fence between upgrading to a Manticore or the D2, these are very helpful videos! I do have one somewhat idiotic question, but I honestly can't tell just from looking at the vid -- are you using a 9" or 11" coil? I realize that coil size wouldn't have much of an impact on this test, but would like to know just the same. Thank you!
Hi Iffy, thanks for doing these tests! This will be really helpful for us. Meanwhile it looks to me that Deus 2 is sharper and faster than Manticore. I look forward the EQ900 and Xterra Pro. Take care.
Will be making it soon Tom, i am actually going to have the 900 quickly in the XTERRA/Simplex video just to show the difference and again in the Legend video.
Good video. I was really interested in watching the manticore video. I have one on order. I have a vanquish 540 currently, it’s a good detector and my first. My question is, would you make adjustments like that out in the field when detecting? Or is that just for the test. You put out a lot of good videos. You were my go to RUclipsr for the vanquish.
Hey thanks Aaron, congrats on your manticore. I usually would not make major changes to what i already know for the site but i do use certain settings that work for me based on clean ground, relic hunting or trashy sites. I mess with each machine to see how it handles the environment and adjust from there. Relic hunting i like a dig/no dig pitch program and if I’m out coin hunting might use a notch to avoid trash ect..
Looking forward to the new update (really wish xp would put out beta version to help speed things up) but if the vdi problems are sorted out I have a few sites that are going to come back to life
There's recovery speed - and there is swing speed. They go hand in hand. If you really want to separate targets, you have to vary the swing speed! i.e. Deus 2, rec. 3, swing slower.
Thx for the info George, I try these many time before i hit record to make sure i am being accurate. Deus performed great. Just the VDI drop but everyone knows about that including XP.
@@IffySignals No problem. Your testing is valuable. Just can't cover all the bases. Check Loren' Lemke's latest response to your test which explains what is going on and solves the TDI mystery.
Yea, i asked him for that. He commented explaining it and thought it would be great if he made a video on it. 👍 appreciate him explaining the science behind it.
@@IffySignals but you can Hear that it Is in the higher Range so the id Number dont say anything. You Hear the Tone and you defently know that there Is a good Target Right beneth a iron Target it’s a Digger. But i Agree it would be nicer to have the Right id… but the Deus seems to separate (by Tone )clearer than the manticore. I thing the First Swing is the decider and thats an advantage for the Deus
Thank you for this test! And thank you for showing us what effect the silencer has on ID’ing the target.
Welcome Joe
Thank you for showing this. Very interesting how changing those 2 settings changes what is coming through.
Welcome Bells.
Great comparison looks like the D2 and Manticor are pretty equal.
Thanks bud!
Thanks for posting this video series. I know it is a lot of trouble, but we appreciate it!

Quite informative! As always! I will enjoy watching the comparison after you have them all. Thanks!
Thanks Don!
Nice one Mike. I'm really excited to see the new update for the D2 in action.
Thanks Finders 👍
hey Iffy, Can you see a difference between the 900 and the Xterra on same single frequencies using. Thankd at and dp tones.
Gonna check for you Dean, shoot me an email.

When do you think you’ll do the nox 900? I’m still trying to decide between it and manticore. Have the 800 now and not sure if it’s worth the upgrade.
This week or weekend. Winter storm warning here right now.

These are great! Thanks for doing these! What size coil is on the D2?
Thanks Martin, thats the 9”. Definitely my fav coil for the D2. Very close to the same depth performance of the 11”. Perfect coil for relic hunting.

I wonder what the X/Y screen would show during this test?
Good question.
So...what happens if you adjust it to hit everything in level 4 and then go back to the 'easier' targets? Does it still see the target?
Yea I’m sure it will hit them all at 4. 4 is lightning fast on the D2, but serious depth loss at 4. That last dime i setup is a tough one for sure.
Have you tried any of the beach programs for this test. Just curious how they would perform.

This is the 9” it may have a slight advantage or disadvantage being that i set each one of these up testing difficulty with the 11” coil for spacing.
