- Evil Genius is a fantastic management simulator where you play an evil genius whose job is to become a villain of legend by amassing infinite money and infinite minions to send off on dangerous missions to make yourself more notorious! Today The Spiffing brit is visiting this 16 year old classic game to see if Evil Genius is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits as I am sure you all remember it! I loved this game growing up. It was fun, challenging and wildly entertaining.
Also the pop culture references will have you rolling on the floor with tears in your eyes.
Just watch out for Jet Chan.
There's another fun exploit that you can do with this game, though it requires you to advance a bit. You can set up a series of traps that permanently trap agents, without killing them, by using wind tunnels to constantly blow them around in circles. Throw in some nerve gas traps to keep them stupefied between activations, and tie it all to a small room containing pressure plates and a Freak (which "accidentally" activates any traps it walks across), and you're set.
This actually does two things: trap combos cause money to mysteriously appear in your treasury. But also, there's a maximum number of agents that can appear on the map at any time. So if you trap them all, you're then free to pull off an exploit similar to the one in this video, since nobody will send more agents to punish you.

I know you probably don't care, and you just want your algorithms and prove by comments, but you have inspired me to check out this game that I've never heard of.
I remember building Ubertraps which would just endlessly blow the invaders in circles forever generating endless money. Because Freaks can trigger pressure plates which means you can cause infinitely triggering traps by sealing a freak inside a tiny room with pressure plates.
I wouldn't mind seeing Spiff doing an episode on Final Fantasy IV Free Enterprise.
The randomizer has exposed a lot of new secrets about this 29 year old game in the last couple of years we never knew before, like new ways to manipulate step counts to guarantee D. Machine grinds in the Giant of Babil, to what the hell Porom's Cry command *ACTUALLY* does _(turns out it doesn't debuff enemies' defense as claimed, but actually by a quirk of coding will buff the success rate of Edge's Sneak command, making the two a great thieving tag team)._
I'd bet despite it's age thanks to the randomizer and the seed generator Spiff could find some sort of new exploit for it. 😁🌕

I played this game back when it came out which was almost 20 years ago now. My flatmate at the time bought it and I'd play it when he was working. I sat around smoking stupid amounts of weed and took over the world but I stupidly kidnapped that maid and had to deal with all the agents and hide their bodies. I picked the same starting guy and henchman too. I have a vague memory of stealing the Eiffel tower or something like that? Can't quite remember now, it was a long time ago.
Note that, if you have more than 19 million when you move to the 2nd island (midway-ish through the game), the game bugs out and tosses all your cash into the sea. The max size of strongroom you can build that can store less than 19 million is 46 squares of storage + a minimum of 2 for the briefcase cabinet (if you put the access point outside the room).
As a game that came out when I was a baby, boy am I interested!

I love this game. Played the crap out of it when I was younger. Super excited that a sequel got greenlit.
I figured out that tutorial mode exploit pretty quick. I used to leave my game to "cook" overnight and blaze through the game with a cozy little $55M nest-egg.
This has been one of those "Heard of, meant to play, never did" games for so long. Might as well pick it up now I know world domination is so simple *laughs in british*
I absolutely adore this game! I remember using this exploit when I was a kid, just getting the max number of minions recruited and sent to steal and plot, then leaving the game on overnight, coming back in the morning to millions in the strongroom and all the missions pre-plotted, pulling everyone back, waiting for the heat to go down, then playing the rest of the game without having to send anyone out except for missions.
Also, you can't complete the game without abducting the maid, there's not many missions you can do without unlocking the upgraded minion classes.

This video got me to look this game up and what I discovered is that they are making an Evil Genius 2 which is supposed to release this year.
Popped over to this video when I started playing Evil Geniuses 2 after watching I'll search the channel for any videos on that one.... If not maybe Spiff will see this and come up with a totally original idea to do a balance video on that one too 🙃

i... got no words... you never even left the tutorial... i know this all is tongue in cheek but damn, what a great way to ruin any enjoyment you can get out of a game or even an exploit, i hope the youtube money was worth all the hours you spend on this...
You can edit the video settings file to set it to a widescreen format. You can also use those same files to set the minimum and maximum zoom distances and angles. If you feel like cheating the main game files can also easily be edited to change the maximum number of minions.I believe the upper limit was 200 minions but anything over 150 could cause the game to crash. I preferred 120 for the final stages of the game because you would end up using all of the specialty characters on the global map and have an empty base.
The downside of peaceful stealing is that you can't actually transfer more than ten million dollars to the second island or more than 13 loot items. Anything more than that will cease to exist after the transfer. My favorite exploit for Evil Genius is the Whirlwind Ubertrap. There are EG forums to explain how to build it and I would recommend building the structure and doors for it while in peaceful mode so its exorbitant cost can be recovered quickly. Once it is finished with all the blowers, it will trap all the pesky agents inside to the point that the world agencies can't send any more agents. Further along the story line, this trap can be made safer and even more effective by using reanimated meatheads (Steroid zombies) to constantly trigger the traps remotely ensuring that the enemies of evil are continually trapped in perpetuity! Oh did I mention that the chain combos from the trap generate a constant supply of income? I will have to find an old save so I can make and upload a clip to RUclips.
I've discovered it in 2018 and got a lot of hours in it back than. really looking forward to part 2 coming out this year. It's a lot of fun.

I played this way back in the day and managed to beat it once. I never setup those elaborate trap chains other people did, I focused on screwing around with enemy agents. Draining their attention and intelligence so they spent all their alloted time standing around going "durrr" and forgetting anything they saw. Didn't matter how many the good guys sent they always went back to report nothing found and reducing my heat.
Now for a Evil Genius 2 Video please. While you do that im going to have a spot of tea. Yorkshire need to sponsor you asap, You managed to get an Aussie to buy it.

You can't "finish" the game without advancing to the 2nd isle and to do that, you'll have to start with that maid.

Dont know if you will read this, but you can alter a text file in the game and have up to 300 minions before the AI starts to get drunk.

It is intenonal game design recomended by the devs
I usually turn that outside hut into a disguised cell for the super agents, so when they escape they don't tear up your base. Another trick was making a labyrinth of doors and hallways to keep the agents blowing all their time trying to open locked doors, while just going around in circles.
Lmao, imagine the North Korean nukes just locked inside a labyrinth of doors and corridors.
That trick gets better than that, actually - to the point of being a Proper exploit. You can get money for agents triggering traps, meaning you:
1. Construct a wind blender where one windblowing trap blows an agent into another, and another, and another in a circle/square, but the wind makes them fall through other traps which are there to be triggered just to generate money
2. Lure agents in there
3. Get some MAD cash with no heat generation whatsoever

So the very top few had a ton of wealth, and could do anything they wanted unchecked. So it's nice in theory. But in practice it doesn't work. Because people aren't the angelic saviours they would like to be. As for the feudalists, well... I think the disproportion of wealth,power etc. is quite obvious there. All you need to do is read the history books, or listen to some podscasts.

I am surprised you didn't mention the other huge exploit in this period. During this period you can also spread out your minions to each region and pre-plot every mission. They discover missions which unlock at certain notoriety.
so can you just send your minions into other regions then they finish the mission for you without you doing much?

@@svetochmira9994 Yeah, but whatever cash you've got spare at the end of the first island can be taken to the second one. Build up a few million and dismantle your old base and you can cue up an entire base for construction on the new island as soon as you arrive.

Played so much evil genius as a kid growing up, I remember having all my minions stealing cash and leaving the computer running for hours to have an entire base of gold, probably the first exploit I ever did. Even better is there is a second evil genius coming out soon!

Also thank you for that info, did not no a sequel was coming. I enjoyed the original so much after trying to find another dungeon keeper like game. Also a lot of nostalgia to me having grown up on James Bond on laserdisc. I hope I can still make a wind blower spiral with a corpse freezer in the center. Loved the idea of killing agents by repeatedly slamming them into walls constantly.
