I love watching these videos, I graduated in 1985. What's amazing is that there were millions of kids just like me in high schools all over the country. This is so cool, too many beautiful girls I will never get to meet.
For those of you too young to know what life was like before the Internet and to understand just how old this footage really is, here’s a bit of perspective.. I graduated HS in 1986. I’ll be 55 years old this year. FIFTY. FIVE. I never thought I’d live to see 40, which was considered “ancient” when I was 17. I’m older than the majority of my teachers were when I was in school. I’m 10 years older than my dad was on the day I graduated. That’s a mind numbing piece of reality to have to digest. But I’m at least in better physical condition than he was and I look and feel younger than my age. Credit a healthy lifestyle I guess. What you’re witnessing in all these old VHS videos people post on RUclips are images of a culture of innocence, cooperation, hopefulness and true face to face interaction between people that no longer exists, and may never come again. The future was so bright we had to wear shades! But it was a future that didn’t come to pass. We’re more connected and yet more separated today than at any time in recorded history. It’s a strange and anxious time to be alive, but embrace it anyway. The future may still turn out to be better than the present, or even the distant past.
Yeah, I'm 53 so I can relate to your comment. The saddest part for me is that I know things can be this good again, right now if people could just get over themselves. It's a shame. There seems to be an interest in the 80s now, kinda like we liked the 50s. I really hope kids embrace that and learn that it's people, not governments who hold power. An old man's prayer I guess. I mean nothing by this, just sharing a thought, not a critique. Have a good day.
@Troy Spencer You are right. There is definitely an interest in the 80s. I am 25 myself and really would have loved to see how things were out there in that moment. These footages really are of insane value for people like me who love to see what we missed out on

Also, I hear lots of southern accents, see lots of black, white and other race students all interacting in good faith and acting very respectfully and mostly focused on academics/athletics in their demeanor. To hear the lefties out here in CA and nationally tell it, this time/place should have been the heart of white privilege, post-Jim Crow racism and racial division due to "inequity". It looks like 1986 but I don't remember any camcorder being as small as the one that the man is holding at 6:02. Only recorded a few kids acting like silly teenagers, that was the best part of being kids in the 80s! Cool vid!
The only reason cams were so big was they had to take a full sized vhs. When they made small vhs tapes it greatly reduced the size of the camera. Then you would put the small vhs in this bracket thay let you use it in a vhs player.
I've paused this it at the 9 minute mark to make comment. This is a gem of a video. Nostalgic. This Highschool is nothing like the high school I attended.. Though I would loved to have attended this high school. I went to high school in Sydney's Inner West.. Canterbury boys actually. Tough and Rough around the edges.. I kid you Not. Went there from 85 to 89.. What a Hell ride. Then transferred to a co ed high school in 1990 to do my HSC. How I remember the year is that Motley Crue came to Sydney with the Dr Feelgood tour and it was the first international gig I ever went to.. I was 17. The high school I attended was very institutional feeling/atmosphere.. We didn't socialize in class nearly as much as what these folk are doing.. Or the relaxed atmosphere conveyed in this video.. And I Envy that. I have always related much better to the American school system back at that time.. And also I Never liked wearing a uniform even though I did.. Suffice to say.. Non of the Metal heads wore their uniform. Not sure how informed Americans are about how high schools were in Sydney Australia at that time? Quite different.. At least where I went. Also.. Yeah.. No phones.. No social media. Love everything about this video.. Love seeing this kind of footage. Hey.. Check out Len Enders.

They all look like their adults already no phones, no social media just class acts
I graduated 10 years before this, yup I'm a Dinosaur.
Wednesday, January 1, 1986.
If this IS IN Tennessee some of these ladies in said video have the same hair today.😝
It looks like 1986 but I don't remember any camcorder being as small as the one that the man is holding at 6:02. Only recorded a few kids acting like silly teenagers, that was the best part of being kids in the 80s! Cool vid!
The actual recorder was in the bag over his shoulder. He was holding the camera. You can see the cord running to the bag.
Was thinking the same lol got it ! Well observed
The only reason cams were so big was they had to take a full sized vhs. When they made small vhs tapes it greatly reduced the size of the camera. Then you would put the small vhs in this bracket thay let you use it in a vhs player.
True. I used a camcorder in 1988 and it was about three times that big and cost about $4000.
"can that thang record what were sayin" lol cute
8:22 Beautiful woman
Flashback in the 80's
No fights in the hallways, no turning over the desks with kids screaming “you alright?” Those poor kids had no idea the world their kids would have.
8:15 that girl is stunning wow
I graduated in 88 this video is great:)
Obesity prevalence increased from 15% to 34% among adults and from 5% to 17% among children.
Oh, and during hunting season sometimes we'd bring our rifles to school, put them in our unlocked lockers or leave them in our gun racks, and go squirrel hunting or whatever after school. What the heck happened?!?
Graduated 1982, life was good not great. Interesting how students were getting used to being filmed.
Be great to do a "Where are they now".
Man do I wish I was this age back then. The girls were all so naturally beautiful and just seemed so feminine. Seeing that today is a rarity.
I wonder where life took the guy in the wheelchair at 1:24? What did he study in college/Uni? What did he end up becoming in his career? I hope he's doing well.
Poo see tasted to much better back then.
3:00 thats the moment when you fall in love and also realize this blonde girl is like 50s nowadays if she got there.
My sister was going there then. My Sister Sonya was beautiful!!! I miss her so much. She would be 53. The girl there looks familiar. All Sonya friends were beautiful and I was in love lol. I'm 46 I liked them a little older.
@@scottsummers4115 sorry for your sister, i hope you doing well.
I was born October of 86
This is crazy!
Guys if you had a choice to grow up and go to school and live your days again which city would you chose??? I would chose Chicago.
I graduated from McGavock in 1979 but have 2 siblings attending at the time this video was filmed. I am hoping to catch a glimpse of one of them. ❤
I was born in 86 wow the teenage looked so much older
@@MissX33 that was a different class of teenagers back then.
So much prettier and more feminine.
Nah every generation says that. I said that about my parents' class, and your kids will say your class looks so old too.
Во всем мире юность одинаково прекрасна. Я выпускница 1985 года.
Nostalgic
