I know it's actually sad that we can't go back this time with all of our friends of them times😢 just imagine all the people we've befriended in our lifetimes
I graduated in1989 .Everyone back then dressed Nice had respect for the teachers and school as a whole.I miss that time. I wish my class at Leto High school would have done a video. Some of my class mates have already passed away. I can't believe how fast time flies. Thank you for sharing.
Wow. Exactly how I remember it. Wind, Jordan, Noel, Dishman, Marshall and Guidry! The best part is watching all the students walk pass the camera as they leave the hall. This is gold. It is incredible to be able to capture a piece of time. Thanks for sharing!
i was in high school at that time myself in Oklahoma, this reminds me of how cute those small town girls were and also how adult our teachers seemed, im pushing 60 and still dont feel like an adult.
You're like me. I, too, was in high school in 1987 (graduated 1989), and on August 30th, of this year, I'll be 55, and am "young at heart"-UNLIKE other people my age, who let stress, marriage or divorce, parenthood, addiction, and social media, control their lives.
The historical value of this footage cannot be overestimated. It documents a time when relatively few people had video cameras and everyone having their own personal TV channel was unheard of. Being captured on video was a big deal, unlike today’s epidemic levels of narcissistic “look at how significant I no longer am, for the one millionth time”. The Internet for the most part didn’t exist and what little of its architecture did was virtually inaccessible to the private sector. “Social media” had no meaning outside of a study group in a library. “Friends” were people you actually met and interacted with in person. People you had yet to meet in person were generally considered to be something called “strangers”. Acquaintances at best. There were no smartphones and no cell phones or pagers smaller than a brick, and you had to be damn near independently wealthy to have one!
@FUCKINGENIOUS Listen to “Nothing’s gonna stop us now” by Starship (the chart topper of 1987) vs “Lovin’ on Me” by Jack Harlow (the chart topper of today)… …And you’ll see what I mean
Class of 1988 in Tennessee here. The beat-boxing bros at the 20:00 mark was gold, pure gold. This was the perfect time to film a morning to afternoon vid, the last day of high school. Everyone is present & in a good mood. Excellent job & THANK YOU !
How damn cool is this!? Schooling in the 70's found me with just a Kodak Instamatic with my first video camera in 1984. This is really great that you captured this much video of a time gone by with friends that who knows where they are and what they are doing. I would have loved to have filmed like this. Funny, I even did the Yeowww yell at such moments. Very cool!! Thank you for sharing!!!
This makes me soo miss my teachers and my friends from back then.. thanks so much for sharing! It's super sweet to see! Big hugs and reach high! as all our teachers told us
I graduated in 1987 in a public school in MA and this brings back memories and lessons learned because there were natural consequences. Education back then involved more learning and there was more respect for teachers. Also, you did not have to think about school shootings AT ALL. Yes, there were just as many guns around as now. Something happened in the 1990s that fostered the chaos with the increase in discipline issues, shootings and less learning in the 2000s to present. We can face the issues or just keep ignoring them. This video is great!
Wild thing of these videos is that they are all similar whether they are from the 70s 80s 90s early 2000s even. It all changed with the smart phone. 2000 was more similar to 1955 than 2015.
Thank you for uploading this! I don't know what my senior year will look like this year or if I'll ever get to walk the halls at nhs ever again but this video has definitely helped with the boredom during quarantine. It puts a smile on my face!
2:10 - he answers this will air when he gets a tv station. It’s amazing, who would have thought the Internet would become what it has, having a place to share and view videos from across time and throughout the world. (i.e. having your own tv station.)
Alot of dutch settled in Midwest/central north America, I myself am Dutch they came in the 1600's to the first dutch colony modern day new York! from Netherlands!
Watching this video 📸📸 takes me back to my childhood memories in the 80s ,I was eleven years old . There might not have been the greatest technology in the 80s ,but if you really noticed in all these kids that a lot of the kids respected being in school with their teachers and had a lot of respect for staff compared to the kids now they just don't care
wow, I was 22 when this was taped and Im Canadian, so cool to watch this stuff. we all looked the same in the 80s in North America lmao, oh and by the way that girl at the end with the Hardrock shirt on is friggen adorable!!!! hope she and all the rest of the kids here have watch this. great time capsule Rich.
NHS Class of 89 here🙋♀️ Wow!! What a trip! So neat Deena Johnny Krautz & hilarious! Those Country country accents..."are you TAPING" I see some 89ers 😬 Those cars lol & I remember those lunch ladies. Who "taped" this?
Not true. There would only be that special individual who owned a cam corder which costed $1K at that time and it was very expensive. If that person had a camera, it would be kind of a special occasion and went along with it.
Mainstream society has completely gone down the drain.😮 POLAR OPPOSITE of this video. Loved being a teenager throughout the 80's. Great time to be young. Peace.....
Cigarettes everywhere. About all of their parents smoked or had friends, relatives, and co-workers who smoked. Ashtrays were everywhere. Even in 1993, you could still smoke on a plane. People look young these days. I look a lot younger than my mom did when she turned 40. On the other hand, the banning of cigarettes killed social culture, which is bad. Smokers all hung out with each other and were social with everyone else. Around 2008, cigarettes started to get stigmatized with indoor smoking bans, which hurt bar and restaurant culture. I see these days zoomers vape in bars. It's not really the same, but it's an improvement over the sterile, neoliberal HR culture that was in vogue for 15 years from Obama until the end of Biden. Note that I'm not being political, just using them as benchmarks. Corporate drone culture seems to have risen as Big Tech did.
I graduated in 1981 and by 87, I was finished with college and enjoying being in the Navy. I knew kids that went to Killeen High and Ellison high in Texas. Couple of large high schools. Is awesome to look back at the girls from the 80’s though. Some super serious hotties here! Go Fletcher High Senators!
This is what it looked like for my older sister in high school who graduated in the class of 1988 at Harper Creek High school. She is 8 years older than me. I Graduated in 1996. So I was 10 years old in 1987. I moved to Phoenix Arizona after high school. I also went to Harper Creek high school and it's located in Battle Creek, Michigan. I see this is in Beaumont, Texas. Love watching these old videos in the past ❤
A lifelong memory captured forever. This was really cool….we all wish we would have done this back then. Kids now have the tech in their phones which is such a blessing for capturing these moments. Just wish we all spent less time on them.
Lmao. Plymouth Whitemarsh HS class of '92 here. Times were better back then. OMG those Apple IIe's, our school had them and we all wanted one. I had the Commodore 64 back then. The teased hair made any girl look hot. The good ole days for sure. Great video and thanks for the memories.
Nowadays every kid has an advanced high-res video camera in their pocket. Yet, I'm betting that in 30 years from now, you won't find any of these videos online from their generation.
Great video, May 1987 was the end of my sophomore year in college. I hope these kids had a wonderful life and had children to pass on their memories to. You have to wonder where are those pictures that people were taking of Ritchie, probably in a lonely photo album.
These kids had no idea of the ever changing world they were about to step into. Things have gone upside down and backwards since that time. Probably the last normal generation.
Is this Nederland, Texas? If so, Bum Phillips, ledendary NFL coach of the Houston Oilers, coached at this school. It would've been back in the 50s. About 20 years before he bacame coach for the Oilers.
I can picture him walking around with that suitcase on his sholders filming everyone. Lol. I remember my grandparents had a maganovox camcorder. Damn thing literally came in a suitcase. The battery alone was bigger than cell phones nowadays. I remember always getting it out and playing with it. I was fascinated by it. Id put a video in and watch it through the little eye piece. Man technology has come a long way.
I do remember thinking this was the future "1987" good times, social media come along and made people unruly, damaged by the consistent need for greed, beefing bro, video hoes. Don't grow up to be the kind of person you hated when you were younger... these kids already are those people...not all of them.
As a class of 86' graduate, this is the best 80's HS video on RUclips. It's a shame it doesn't have more views. I think that would change if you corrected your title.
I wish I videoed my time in high school even though it was an all boys catholic school--Father Judge in Philadelphia class of 80. I would have probably gotten in trouble!
I graduated in 87. I’ve never wanted to jump into a video more. Great memories

What about respect for students. Respect is two way street
Are you talking about Leto high school in Tampa Florida?
Remember when people tight rolled their pants?
@ that was me! 🤣🤣🤣
Class of '88, Paris, Texas here. This really took me back. Thanks for uploading it.
Time seemed to stand still in those day...those times are truly missed..from music to movies to just hanging out with crowds made the best memories.

Class of 88 from a small town in north central Iowa. We had 52 in our class and sadly 2 have now passed on, but are always remembered.

Graduated in 1986 in Lubbock TX - our school was exactly the same. We were so civil and respectful of others/elders.
Coronado. Or. Lubbock high ?

Thank you so much for uploading this footage! I've always loved the 80s and wondered what it was like to live in that decade.
Richie seemed like one of those just overall popular people because of how nice he was. He got along with all the different “groups”.

Damn this place is so different from when I went last year. Everyone actually didn’t fight every 2 seconds
You’re looking at 30 min in time and also the last day of school- people don’t change
I went to several schools. 1 was all Hispanic in 1988 and everyday there were fights.
Because Gen X is the best generation dood (that’s still living). The Lost Generation is objectively the best RIP WW1 vets 🙏.

Was supposed to graduate with this class of 87 in Nederland .But parents moved me to Arkansas in my senior year . Recognize many in this video .
Did you know the blonde girl in the "Hardrock Houston" shirt?
Nederland🇳🇱 means netherlands🇳🇱. Why they call this school the Netherlands?
because the city it's located in, Nederland, Texas, was founded by Dutch settlers
