My grandfather was SF and did 5 tours over in Vietnam... He served on 2 different A camps in the central Highlands with the montagnards... He actually sponsored some of them and helped them settle in North Carolina when the US pulled out...
How can someone wish another "good luck in Vietnam" and have a reference to a movie that came out years after the war ended? I saw several Montagnard crossbows. They were much more hefty in girth and painted black with red decorative painting, almost like pinstriping. They were fearsome weapons!
I was TDY An Khe. In August of 68. I met some in the village on pass one was an ARVN south Vietnam army these people were good fighters. The VC hated them
After the Tet Offensive in early 68, I transferred to SOG and spent 6 months in the Yard camp of FOB 2 in Kontum. I believe most of the guys were Jarai or Rade tribe. Mnong and Bru were in camps north of us, I think. GREAT PEOPLE and soldiers. But, their rice wine, was a killer. B-) Too few know of them. I was surprised that Montagnards were involved in the movie "Gran Turino."
That's when my dad was there, but he was USAF. We have pics of him with two Montagnards. He never talked about the war and he's gone now. Thank you for your service, btw.
Was working on a house and recognized some stuff, mentioned some places my father(3rd Force Recon) was at and "omg how do you know that name, that's my tiny village!" She ran and grabbed her husband, he is Montagnard and fought throughout the war.
Dude this is cool, how it’s set up like a training film, I actually thought it was real at first lol, from watching plenty of Vietnam documentary with U.S. military training, i thought about making a simple cross bow for a Vietnamese farmer/VC loadout
My father was in the USAF. He served in Vietnam during the TET Offensive. We have pics of him with Montagnards. My dad was in logistics so we have no idea why he was with them. Also, he had one of the crossbows, but threw it away in the 80s. He rarely talked about Vietnam, so we really don't know much about his time there.
Im a Montagnard American Myself belonging to the Mnong tribe. Thanks for the educational video.
