This video is wonderful eye opener. I have been searching for this. Just one question please. How do you know if a speed controller already has regen active?
I'm switching out my BAFANG motors ( I have a two wheel drive EMTB) and the E-CELLS factory controller for GRIN Technology FREEGEN regenerative braking motors and a GRIN controller and display screen. This will be in a few years from now when my motors are nearly shot. Expensive, yeah, but what a great upgrade!
Hi I’ve got an LCDSM controller but I can’t find X and DS on the board do you know which circuits I need to bridge on this controller to activate regen ? Thanks in advance for any information 6:23
great info thanks! do you know if it is possible to invert wheel rotation with a switch for reverse driving in a trike? perhaps switching 2 of the 3 main phases?
Tommy AKA (Ebike Guy)! My prayers go to you and the crew! I thank you for sharing. I need your help, to hank in regen in the 60 amp controller. I run a 2600 watt direct drive hub at 52 volts. At 50 mph my braking with duel pistons no power on stopping! I need Re-Gen. When you can, could you do a video to hack Regen. Thank you. T I know you're busy. Thanks, big brother. If you have an ebike, then it'll be equipped with a switch at the break lever which cuts off power to the motor every time you pull the lever to break.

Oh just now seeing this, but it's done on the controller itself. I keep my breaks connected in the same place it already was, so low breaks in my case. Also if you're gonna do this, i encourage you to add torque arm on it.
You can have dual battery's conected to a adapter that balances them out slowly😌 you should have that anyway you could brick youre battery's accedentaly prety easaly if you dont
FYI if your battery is fully charged already and you use regen, you could destroy your battery. Probably won't explode in most cases but it will reduce the battery health. If the engineers didn't enable it, there's also a chance it's not safe
Not in this case, the regen only activates after a significant speed increase. If you break at low speeds there's no regen. So even at full charge you'll still need to make use of energy to get up to the speeds it needs to activate. Even if that feature wasn't there the battery's bms will stop the flow of electricity back into the battery when it's at full charge.
@@novasegg8157 If you start your ride on a big hill then you have 2 options. 1, don't hold the breaks going down, this will also save your break pads, and 2, don't charge your battery all the way up. Regardless, your bms should be funtional at all times because even while charging at home you wouldn't want to risk your house burning down.

ABS or F4, maybe EBS
Why can we have multiple batterie in parallelle with it?
great info thanks!

thanks for the tips man, hopefully my crappy controller uses similar architecture.
But how do I actually brake? I have hydraulic brakes on my bike, how do I send the command of braking?

@@KingKola_ Not this one.. I can apply throttle and brake with the rear or front..

Dope lights!
Hi thanks for the insight would this be done on the low brakes or hight brake option

@@KingKola_ yes thank for the reply, I do have an anti rotation torque washer on it I think it holds
I can't find the x or ds on my controller
Nice, its possible do it on the Ridstar Q20?

Regen is not advicable on a dual battery system

@@KingKola_what if I live on a big hill and use them going down hill is there a cut off that will protect it or could I over charge by doing that
@@KingKola_other than the battery BMS is there any protection there?

Cool Little Bike Bro
Useless video as you don't make any demo with your bike at the end...
Still waiting to get a response from you Bro
What was your question?
Braking.... not 'breaking' !
Thank you
how exacty does the regen acivate? does it activate automatically?
Yes, when you break going over a certain speed. It won't activate if you break while going something like 10mph
