- I took a poll and did some searching. To the best of my knowledge, I have found what the most common names for Warrior Cats OCs are.

When I was a kid, I was on multiple websites that had to ban "wren" and "sparrow" from being used as roleplay prefixes because too many people wanted to use them. Funny how much that's changed as we've moved away from traditional naming concepts and allowed people to do what they want.
Is there any warrior cat roleplaying websites that are still up/popular?

Fun fact: Wolfheart is a canon cat.
My OC is called Tenderear, and was named for her ear, which has been tender since birth. She always knew what her warrior name would be.
Same thing with Longtail, no sane mother would name their kit longkit

I’m surprised “dew” and “frost” didn’t come up, as those are two of my favorite warrior names, and why I named my OC Dewfrost. I guess my OC is more original than I thought.
My oc RedwoodFlame is more original than I expected XD, and my main HoneyCry is also more original too lol

It's interesting to see the name Snowstorm be so popular for fancharacters, because as a fan who read the first arc in my own language, we already had a canonical character named Snowstorm! Idk if this happened in any other first arc translations, but in the norwegian one Whitestorm was named "snøstorm", which obviously translates to snowstorm. So for me, Snowstorm was never an option for ocs
(Also! This isn't related to name popularity, but another fun fact about the norwegian names is that Yellowfang's translated back is "Flatface" and I think its funny)

I understand your point of view, when it comes to naming a character Snowflake (meaning "Flocon de Neige" in french, this is CLOUDTAIL'S ACTUAL FRENCH NAME) so I find it kinda surprising
I'm part Norwegian, but have never connected with any Norwegians, bc most my family are in Minnesota (in th US) and I'm a military dependent child, but that's really funny with Yellowfang/flatface

I'm surprised the concept of "Bloodmoon" wasn't mentioned. It sounds edgy as all h3ll, and the blood moon is an extremely cool thing in nature.

I honestly dont think 'heart' has that much to do with Fireheart. If you look at the top names for the suffix there's song, feather, wing, heart, and leaf. Those are pretty much all things associated with delicacy, warmth, softness, sweetness, love, etc. So I think lots of people like to make soft cute kitties and heart and song make them sound the most like that. Heart is one of my fav suffixes but it really has nothing to do with Fireheart and honestly I forget that was his warrior name sometimes
I've had two characters with the suffix heart
Dogheart - for his bravery
and
Icheart - because he's mean lmao
I was also thinking of that Oakheart is another canon character with the -heart suffix
I like using Heart ironically. I had an OC named Hollowheart for a long time.
I was cringing the whole time, expecting “flame” or “blaze” to come up- but they never did. This video was really helpful as it will now help me make certain oc’s unique from a naming standpoint.
I’ve seen too many ‘flower kit’ in w cue on Roblox
But my oc’s prefix is bluebell flower so it’s original.

I submitted the name "Gingerflame" and I'm surprised Ginger wasn't a common prefix, since I thought it was. Also, her name was originally Gingerheart, but I changed it because -heart is a super common suffix (I'm not surprised it's number 1) and it's too close to Fireheart.
Also I though -song was an underrated suffix, so I'm surprised it was in the top 10

Moonstar was my second ever warriors OC and it’s hilarious to see how popular it is now! I guess as kids we all had the same idea haha
I had one named "Mooneye" bc she had a white spot over her eye, now realizeding that she was a little bit of a Mary Sue, but to be fair, I was like, 10, when I made her, I still like her, my username for another website came from her (the "Moon" part) and I just used the same name here
fun fact, Bluestar was originally going to be named Moonstar but I guess they wanted to save that name for her mother

I'm not surprised my personal favorite OC had nothing from the top names. I do have a bunch with more popular prefixes and suffixes in the same OC group, so I'm not totally immune to popular names. The main character of this OC story is an apprentice, so couldn't be used. Dapplestone is their mother, a decently important character, and the closest to a self-insert in the story so she was used instead. She was actually the first of the group to be designed and named too, so she works as a representative that way too.
Same one of my sona's name Is Crow Pulse, lol.

I missed the poll unfortunately. Mine would have been Cherrydew. Before I made an OC I actually watched a video that did a what is the most common pre and suffix. Fur and pelt were the most common suffixes.
I find it interesting that the prefix "Shadow" wasn't as common. My oc's name, ShadowWind, is based off of another character with a similar name. Happy to know he's somewhat original.

I think that stems from the old taboo of not naming ocs any of the clan's names (shadow/thunder/wind/river)

This would have been such an interesting survey to have had done over the years as warrior cats evolved! I feel like quite a few names have come and gone in popularity over the years and it's really interesting to see how it has adapted over time.
I've always prided myself on having unique warrior names though (after I'd say my second year in the Fandom lol. My first main ocs were Foresttail and Mountainedge I'm pretty sure lol). Some of my favorites over the years were: Witherclaw (I 100% plan on bringing him back! Think of Scourge and Jayfeather mixed and he was raised by his cranky old grandma 😂), Littlemoon (definitely the most common name I think but this was back when Moon was a rare suffix), Lonestar/Loneheart, Wolfchill (it is a wolf name but I love that suffix! Lol), and my recent oc's are Toothache (the leader for his clan was a kittypet and likes names that are puns or old sayings hahaha. He's got really long front teeth and was often in the medicine den because he'd bang them on everything so they would ache a lot), Vervainshade/Vervainstar (his story is too massive to paraphrase here), and my main sona is Erminefang whose Vervainshade's son.
I've had a lot more, like Mapledapple (Witherclaw's grandma), Skysoar, Shiverstrike, Koisplash, Fogcall, Warblersong, and Oldspirit/Oldstar (he was born with no fur and looked like an old cat when he was born, so he was called Oldkit haha. He also 100% acts like an old man lol.)
My main oc is littlemoon lol
Glad to know there’s someone else that uses Wither as a prefix (though I changed my Oc’s name to Witheringrose)
My two favorite OC’s that I have made are:
1. Shatteredgaze
A WindClan cat who was blinded during a battle in his youth. He learned how to work with his disability and grew to be a strong warrior who is very down to earth and strong willed. He even grew to be recognized for his skills and becoming WindClan’s deputy.
2. Burntiris
Born to RoseClan, Iriskit and her family were engulfed in a fire that led to the destruction of the nursery that killed her mother and her brother. After the incident her name was changed to Burntkit, to honor her family and how they died.
When she was able to prove her worth and become a warrior, her leader gave her -iris as her suffix in order to let her truly be herself. She later would go on to lead a new RoseClan and become Burntstar

My ocs name is Ambergaze! Named after her Amber eyes and observant nature

My Oc's name is Ambershine, and she was raised in a Clan on the mountains. They were always starving and under the threat of mountain lions. One stormy night a rabbit wandered into the camp and Amberpaw gave chase but got lost. When she made it back to camp it was flooded and she was forced to follow behind the Clan as they journeyed down past a pristine Valley to make it to a Region filled with forests and a winding river, where they had heard other Clans resided. On her journey she met other cats like Snow and Shadow, and a handsome tortoiseshell tom named Chimera. They make it to the Region long after the Clan had been welcomed into the Region and given the name FireClan. Shadow died from a badger attack in the Valley, but the three had carried on and made it to their new home.
Ok if I go any further imma just rewrite the entire story :/
But yeah that's my oc.
my favourite and main (also evil) oc is called shiveringeternity
he's named after a dragon (not wof) oc i have who's also called shivering eternity
and THAT oc is named after a frozen capital of eternity remix (frozen eternity)
basically shiveringeternity (cat) is evil and cool.....
and was also made as a full blue oc challenge on wc:ue

Man that’s interesting! My warrior OC Adderstar was originally named Addertail, well, because she literally had an adder for a tail ever since birth. Tbh I expected tail to be a popular suffix since it’s a body part of a cat, but it’s cool to see that many people had unique oc names!

It’s also interesting to see that there are more unique names than shared names. I guess that just proves how creative this community can be.

I named mine MudSlug because her fur pattern looks like it’s covered in a mud and she’s very slippery and agile in combat.

I’ve had two RP characters with the -heart suffix; one was for her bubbly and optimistic outlook on things (being the heart of the team), and the other was suggested by his mother as a reminder to be true to himself even if it’s at the risk of looking weak, that his caring streak was his strength and not his weakness (their full names being pollenheart and eveningheart) - i absolutely love it as a suffix because of how many ways you can spin in
It gives me relief that the names I’ve come up with are really in reality super unique, as well as my fan clan names! I used to worry all the time I wasn’t being creative enough and unique and constantly beat myself up trying to think of beautiful and interesting names- Thank you for this video xD it was really fun seeing the common names, suffixes, prefixes etc. (PS, kinda expected Moon to be popular, no wonder my first OC was named Moonspirit!)

It's nice to know most of my cats have pretty unique names, and even funnier to know one I thought was one of my more unique names (Quietstream) actually ended up getting onto one of the lists. I can't remember exactly which of my oc names I submitted for the poll, but I'm happy to know that Quietstream was the only one that got on any of the lists haha

About two years ago I had an oc on wcu named Desertrose. I’m still pretty proud of her to this day. Both the name and the design.

I remember once I made a character named Swansong which was named after that one album or whatever it was. I've never listened to the band that sung it. I only named it that because a youtuber I liked mentioned it, and I thought it would be a cool name for an oc. Years later, Swansong is making an appearance in one of my many fanfictions.
The Warrior OC name I submitted was: “Big’Heart”, and I thought that it was a very unique name. Guess I was wrong! Amazing video Akira!
i'm pretty proud of my own warrior oc names. Torrentpath, a Riverclam cat named for his tabby grey markings (and also being riverclan, torrent hahah), Ambersplash his brother named for being a mostly white cat with patches, aka splashes of ginger on his back- and their mother being named Pebblepath, once again due to her grey markings (really proud of this family!). Dreamcloud was a sweet siamese, named because of her personality and also her own looks being quite foreign for a wild cat. And finally Rabbitflight, named for her short bobbed tail giving her a similar look to a rabbit when sprinting! all very origional names for kid me xD

It's funny having OC names with a unique prefix with a super common suffix. For example, one of my first OCs is named Tinkertail.
Im so late to reply to this but im a bit surprised whisker wasnt used more like my OC is Shiverwhisker and I was thinking whisker was gonna at least be in there but seeing all the names that did win it makes sense with all the meanings you can get from them and how neat a lot of the combos are! Honestly wish I had seen this sooner to participate too but this is really cool to see and know more about OC names in general!! :3
The fact that Moon is the most common name, kinda shocks me. There aren’t a lot of canon cats with that name. Right now, I can only think of Moonflower, Moon (sisters) and that tribe cat Moon on shining water.

I wasn't too surprised to see Wing as a prefix on there, but I sorta almost expected to see Violet too (my oc is Violet Wing btw) And I was also a bit surprised to see that SparkClan wasn't on the list. It's not that I've seen it everywhere, but still.
Also SparkClan is the name of the Clan my oc lives in, under Spark Blaze/Sparkstar in case you were wondering why I brought it up.
I came up with IvyFrost for my main OC, it was originally IvyPelt, but I changed it and I love it so much more

I submitted my main oc Duskpool and was very surprised to see neither Dusk or Pool was in the top 10.
I do have two other ocs named Rosethorn and Rainsong though. Not surprised that Rosethorn wasn't original but I really thought I did something with Rainsong lol
Surprisingly, I thought sky would be on the top 10 suffix list. I tend to use it a lot myself, but perhaps that's just me. I only have two OCs currently that I have any interest in devloping: Frozensky and Petalstorm.
My Oc’s name is Lynx’Heart, so I wasn’t too surprised when heart was the first one because it’s commonly used, I was however surprised that there wasn’t as much animal names as I anticipated, it was just then when I realized that a lot of my warriors are named after animals, and are the only ones I can think of that are named after animals are Sand’Glare, Quiet’Eye, and Willow’Song :)

My 1st fanmade cat was actually called "Vannila'pool" made when i was 8- she was a cream cat, with white, and light gray spots, my most recent being "Blood'sight" being a dark, smoky gray, with striped ginger spots, and reddish feet, her name comes from when she was born, when she was born rogues had attacked the camp, and they ki//ed her littermates, she was looked down on by many, her clan being "Moon'clan" a clan in the mountains, with a lot of space, and many threats to the clan. including, eagles, snow Leopards and other cats, as with sicknesses, there most commonly threatened by "Moon'fly Disease" a fly that attacks elders, kits, and, apprentices. (this is all just random stuff.) So uh yeah.
I like how Akira literally turned sol into so. A beautiful little detail.

My favorite oc name I have is Lightningpool. She's a med cat turned warrior. She felt like she was never meant to be a med cat but was ultimately forced into it because her leader felt like she was too weak to be a warrior. she eventually broke out from being a med cat when another clan raided their camp in hopes to drive them out and she was able to show her true colors and fight along side her siblings (she trained with her brother in secret). they didn't win that battle but she was finally recognized as a warrior and gave the med cat position to her apprentice. (they did end up taking their home back later though)

Heart is one of the most versitile suffixes ever, it could be used for basically anything. In one of my made up clans I have Willowheart (it was supposed to reperesent bravery and healing, as she started a clan out of rogue cats and became their leader, even though it got her killed quickly) and Mistyheart (wich represents her quiet and mysterious nature). Two completly different cats, and the suffix matches both of them. I was expecting the suffix Whisker to be quite common but apparantly not...

I have two OCs that I rather like a lot.
1. AsphaltClaw/Star-A brave,strong and adventurous Pure-blackTom with amber eyes from BlazeClan that loves to explore and battle train. He has two kits, EmberFlight and Lionmane/Rodan. Lionmane left BlazeClan to become a kittypet. Asphaltstar also has a mate,Snowyheart,a pure-white she with blue eyes.
2. CaracalFrost. - Born into Shadowclan, CaracalFrost is an orange Tom with a white belly and green eyes. He has a sibling known as SnowCloud, A light-grey she-cat that almost appears white. CaracalFrost later left his clan with three cats. Blackfluff,SnowCloud,and SpirtJump. Eventually they found BlazeClan and joined it. CaracalFrost has no mate,but has adopted four kits. FlamePaw,DewPaw,BushPaw,and SunrisePaw.
Also I did have two more OCs that i scrapped,and they were ShadowClaw and ScarredClaw.. I like the suffix “Claw” A lot

1. The prefix or suffix are not in this video, and that makes it a rare name :)
2. I came up with it myself! I did not use the internet or steal it from someone else’s OC.
3. It’s a well written character, the backstory and everything fits her.
(I’m not saying the name of her because I don’t want people to steal it)
I did submit one of my OCs named HailStorm, and I expected it to be way more popular. (Because of WoF xD)
Edit: after a a reply that changed my mind, I decided to say her name, Her name is LittleCreek.
I understand the fear of people stealing stuff, but it is just a name. Who knows, someone might have thought of that name as well, or if it has very obscure vocabulary, I doubt someone would steal it. If it is just that genius of a name, I wouldn't be surprised if a few months later someone would have the same idea. Names aren't really a thing unique to 1 person only.

Mine is Cloudstain. I also have Cedarstain, but I think that “stain” is a pretty unique suffix. For prefixes…. Idk, maybe Smoke. It’s not used many times in the books, and for ocs I don’t think so either. Also, maybe Swift. Another of my ocs… and one of my favorites- Swiftstreak!
When I did this i had accidently sent in my warrior oc's leader name, but he never had a warrior name or kit and apprentice name, he was a rogue who started a clan and became leader. So I don't know if that would still be alright or not

Just in case anyone is interested (which I doubt you are) here are the main OCs I use. Just for context: these cats all come from a warrior cat role play group that takes place in the dark forest (as in Mapleshade, for us Maplestar, is long gone)
Breezestar (breezefang):
Now the new leader of the dark forest, he was one of my first OCs. So yeah, there are edgy aspects to him. Breezefang was a windclan cat (totally didn’t steal Breezepelts name and daddy issues…) and ended up dying my being eaten by bugs from the inside. So he ate eggs, and they hatched and ate their way out of his chest. He is a fully black cat, except for the large white paint splotch on the left side of his face that goes down to parts of his neck. He is really thin, and has scars all over him, especially his back and forehead. He has dark green eyes. The most noticeable injury is a large cut across his right eye, or the mangled injury on his chest, the show his death.
Beetlejuice:
A friend created and gave Beetlejuice to me when they were into their Beetlejuice the musical phase. (Yes, I watched it too) so that’s the name! Beetlejuice is white cat, but with patches of black all over him. He’s a really big cat, both hight and width wise. He has amber eyes. His right eye is slightly clouded over, after it never really recovering after a fight. The most noticeable injury on Beetlejuice is definitely the scars all over his back, from being shredded/crushed. So his death scars. He died when he was 12/13 moons old after he was formed for murder, and exiled. In life he never got a warrior name. Beetlepaw took his brother, the one who framed him to the tree cut place, and they fought. It ended with Beetlepaw being shoved backwards into a giant paper shredded looking thing and he died. He was thunder clan.
Foxtrap:
The last of my cats who died very young, Foxtrap died at 10 moons old. As her darkforest warrior name suggests, a foxtrap had something to do with it. Foxtrap is an orange cat will white paws. She has spots if brown across her back and face. She has white face markings, but her chest is plain. She’s tall, really long legs, and beautiful yellow eyes. On her back left paw, there is a horrible scar, that cuts down to bone. Her paws have little burn markings to represent her death. Very few scars other than that, just one across her right ear. The most noticeable injury would be the paw. She got messed up in something that wasn’t really her fault (I don’t want to go into too much detail) and when she tried to hide it, it escalated to the point where her father killed her kit (like 2 moons old) brother. (The father was the mentor of Beetlepaw, and encoreged that he murder he brother. This happens about a moon before Foxpaw birth. His name was Hazeltail.) she killed her dad, then tried to run away from thunder clan and become a rouge. But she got her back paw caught in a foxtrap. Dry lighting hit a bush, and she burned to death, unable to escape.
Eagletalon:
Eagletalon never lived life. He was born to two dark forest cats, and never got life. Eagletalon looks a lot like his mother Maplestar, (yes that is Mapleshade) but with some patches of blond on his ears, paws, back and tail that he got from his mother. (His other one, another person In the role play groups OC. Her name is Sunstar and she succeeded Maplestar and was the deputy before Breezefang.) He has bright amber eyes, and always seems to be jumping around. He was mentored by Breezefang. His most noticeable injury would be a large scratch down his chest and stomach that he got when fighting Starclan as an apprentice. Eagletalon died in the dark forest from a rockslide whilst fighting badgers. He such a nice cat and I knew it would effect the group the most by killing him off. I miss him though.
Mintpunk:
Very strange name, but THERE IS AN EXPLANATION! Mintpunk comes from a long line of OCs. The creator of these OCs was about ten when she started them. So Mintpunk is half volcano, part bubblegum, and I think part unicorn. as a child of Rainbowflower, and a member of the Lightshine family, Mintpunk doesn’t look too realistic. He has green fur, and he has dyed his fur on the top of his head black, and cut it so it would be “emo and punk like.” He has blue eyes. As he never lived in life, he has no marking to show his death. The majority of his scars he did to himself because it makes him look more scary. I think green fur with a metal piercing in his ear is pretty noticeable, but an injury would be a scratch on his chest. (A really bad imitation of Breezefangs death mark) His real name is Mintpelt, but… he likes Mintpunk. (Before I get accused, cats like Mintpunk and Eagletalon I have been given, and I didn’t steal them)
Finally, Bushfur:
Bushfur is alive. He trains in the dark forest at night. He is Breezefangs nephew (half nephew?) and is part of windclan. He has a light cream colored pelt, that fades out into a light brown at his paws, tail, and ears. Since he isn’t dead, he doesn’t have the slight reddish hue the Dark Forest cats have. He does have tons of scars. Like Breezefang, he has green eyes. Since he never died, no death marking. His most noticeable injury would be the scratch on his face, or the claw marks around his neck. Bushfur also owns a ferret. It’s name is Three, after the three dice like dots on his head.
All of this will be different by September, and lots of them will be dead. But anyways

In my warriorcars role play class (which is just an excuse for a bunch of people to make edgy cats, and then make the cats fight each other) we create adventures for our cats to go on (same style as the adventures in the back of the omen of the stars books.) I’ve been creating a prophecy for the class. Eagletalon has already been killed off.
Breezestar will lose at least one life, and Mintpunk, Beetlejuice, and Bushfur will be dead. (He is one of the villains, and will be killed after trying to murder yet another cat. Currently, Bushfur is looked at as a loyal dark forest warrior. But his goal is to destroy the dark forest. Bushfur and Mintpunk are together, and this will destroy Mintpunk. This will lead to Mintpunks death that will either be a noble sacrifice, or him jumping off a cliff (again, very edgy cats) Beetlejuice will be put through the shredder again by the main antagonist (Tacostar leader of the Tacoclan. Yes weird name, but he’s actually a pretty scary villain.) Foxtrap will be the only one who hasn’t really died again.
I am writing a fanfic on Breezefang(star) of before he died. His big thing is that he could see possible futures, and was manipulated by Mapleshade(Star) to kill a lot of cats in his clan.(he was one of my first OCs, so he’s kinda still a bit edgy, but whatever) His story’s really all about acceptance. But after that, I’m writing fan fiction about Beetlejuice and Foxtrap.

Suffix: Song - heard it a million times but i don't care, i like it.
Its hard to name cats after their personality or having like good non physical quailities, I struggle with that and defaulting to heart or song. They also both sound so nice

For Akira’s guess of most nights being black cats, I can say it’s mostly correct, but he (Nightdancer) also carries gray of all shades and a lot of white
I’m actually really proud of that oc because he has a good oc design, despite hard to draw, his storyline doesn’t make him a Mary Sue, and keeps him in the background as a normal medicine cat just trying to keep cats alive and trying to keep all his family alive. He’s incredibly close to his grandmother and is deviated when she passes of old age, ends up dying of heartbreak, leaving his position as a medicine cat up to his apprentice who I’ve yet to make an oc for.

i'm kinda surprised that shadow isn't a super common name! it's one of my personal favorites, and i have a handful of cats with the shadow prefix (shadowphantom, shadowshine, shadowmoth, shadowraven) and a couple with it as a suffix as well (silentshadow, dustshadow). you can see my personal bias for it as a name lmao
i do happen to have a cat named snowstorm in my own fan clans as well! he's shadowphantom's brother, but instead of being pure white, he's dark grey with a white speckled back. gotta keep things interesting, y'know? :P
