Love that purple rose!
Thanks!
I was looking for information on Walmart roses, your video was just what I was looking for. I found it very helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Love the new roses. I have a few Walmart bare root roses and they are doing great. Love that you put the roses in pots.
Wonderful!
Good morning and thank you so much. I didn't know Walmart carries root roses. As a new gardner I want to plant a rose, but don't want to start out with an expensive rose n it dies on me. One day I look forward to purchasing a few of those beautiful expensive roses. For now, I'm headed to Walmart. Thanks a lot. I love your channel because you keep it real!😊
I feel the same way! I want to learn on cheaper roses and then purchases some prized ones in the future!
David Austin guarantees their roses for 5yrs. Jackson & Perkins give a one year guarantee. I have a lot of David Austin ones. 😊
I buy roses every year at Walmart and they have performed very well with lots of blooms
Thanks for sharing!
You bet!
this video was great for those of us who are new to bare root roses, off to Walmart to see what my Walmat has to offer...thank you for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
I just planted 3 Sexy Rexy that I purchased from Lowes for $14.95 each. I planted directly into compost in a new flower bed. Zone 9, south central Georgia.
I wish I was in charge of naming roses!
Oh my! I was day dreaming of a Lavender/ purple climbing rose thinking that there probably not one. I live in southern California and now I’m hoping that my local #WalMart will have the #LavenderCrushClimbingRose. I’m looking forward to seeing your roses this year. I counted my roses and I now have 16 and I still have at least 2 more on my wish list. Some in ground and some in pots. Thank you for the rose care advice and tips video. Love your channel and I look forward to watching you every day.🌹🌹🌹
16 is amazing!!! Glad you are enjoying the channel!
You have given me the courage to give roses a try! Thank you so much!!
You can do it!
I bought a bare root years back at Kmart an it was MAGNIFICENT leaves were so think an green the flowers were crazy Beautiful an Many many blooms...! I moved an didn't dig them up an I finally a friend just found it again for me.. it's called CAMALOT STUNNING 😊
Oh pretty, I’ll go look that one up!
Is there a follow-up video to the video? i love to see how the roses are doing now... thank you : )
The follow ups are in my garden tour videos at the end of each month … the March video will come out next week.
I would like to add that if planting in a pot the rose should be two zones cold hardier than your zone. Something us colder zones must consider. We also have to plant our graft two inches below ground level for winter hardiness. If the top growth is killed off from winterkill it will grow back from the root. Own root roses are also better in a cold zone. Bonny zone 5b Canada
Yes, someone else said I should go back and bury the grafted area two inches below the soil to protect it from cold weather. It’s amazing how different planting own root is from planting grafted.
Thanks ,for this video, here in the uk ,I bought bare root rose did not know if it was alive or dead ,based on your video it is dead 😢,i have still planted it .will come back & give a update.
Let me know how they work out!
Can’t wait to go get some roses 🌹
Please do!
Peace is a beautiful old rose. Gets huge blooms
It’s about to bloom now!
I bought a Walmart climbing rose today..... "Royal America" Yellow. I ran to youtube to get instruction on how to get it planted.... Thank you so much for your knowledge and hands on demonstration.
Wonderful!
Thank you for the education on bare root roses. One of the reasons for grafting primarily is because the root stock is more resistant to soil born disease. Many hybrid rose varieties have roots that are susceptible but by grafting to a strong root stock they are less likely to fail from soil born diseases.
Good to know!
i have we salute you. i love it! i also got david austin planted last fall cant wait to see
Love David Austin roses!
Girl you got it like all of us flower lovers!!! ❤❤
❤️❤️
I have a few roses in my rose garden that are 35 years old. I think my Nanny looks over them.
That is amazing!
Lavender crushxx I'm with you, and I love the detail you add to your videos ++❤❤
Yay, thank you!
Check out "Angel Face" Rose. It's a lavender purple with great fragrance.
I just got Chicago peace at Home Depot. Planted it yesterday. I have not been successful with hybrid teas here in the desert but floribunda do pretty good. We will see. $15 is worth a try.
Yep the price makes it easier to try!
Thanks for taking us along! I checked at my local Tractor Supply and they didn't have roses out yet. I'll be checking Walmart soon.
Hope you find some!
I planted 5 bare root roses into the ground on Tuesday 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 a red a pink a yellow a peach and a white they are hybrid tea roses I bought from Amazon £16.99 for a set of 5 absolute bargain - they all had really good roots and I did soak them for about 30 minutes 😀 I can't wait to see how they grow 🌿🌹🌿 I already have 2 which my daughter bought me in pots - I tranplanted one into the ground in autumn and it's almost grown another foot already - and a beautiful white climbing rose which I bought from Poundland for £1 about 8 years ago which I've just attached to an arch 🌹
Sounds like you are going to have a beautiful garden this year!
Pretty selections ❤❤❤ I may have to give one a try this year!
You should!
Rushing to local Walmart to find a ‘new year’ climber! Thanks!
Good luck!
Is there an update yet. Would love to watch them grow up.
2 out of 3 made it! The lavender crush never budded out or bloomed. I’ll be moving them around in some upcoming videos.
Oooo…I want that lavender climbing rose!
It’s so pretty!
Would love to see a DIY trellis! I need one for a climbing rose too! Nice rose selections, the colors will be stunning :)
Coming soon!
Interested to see how the climbing rose does ❤ the purple color! 😊
Me too!!
Very helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
The three you picked are gorgeous!! Peace is one of my favorites! Mine got a disease and I had to pull it out. I need to find another spot because it really is stunning. I got a yellow climber for Lowe’s for $7.99. This will be its third year in the ground. I’m really excited to see how it will do.
That’s an awesome price!
I have True Inspiration its beautiful and pretty blackspot resistant. Had to mention that one.
Ooo, glad you like the True Bloom roses!
Thank you! I'm thinking about buying a climbing rose this season. I got two Oso easy roses last season. 😄👍
I’m really into climbing roses right now.
Love what you chose and laughed about only buying 2. Who does that?! LOL I bought "Garden Party" hybrid tea bareroot at our local WM last week (Expert Gardener). When I got home I researched it and it turns out it was created in 1959. Can't wait to see these blooms.
Oh wow!
Great tutorial!! Blessings ♥️🙏
Thank you! You too!
That's a great assortment! I have had really good luck with these and love the thrill of the hunt. I feel like they catch up by the end of the summer. I would totally grab the Peace, Chicago Peace. Will have to look into the True line
Yay! That makes me excited!
I think I’m gonna try this now that I’ve watched your video!
Yay! I hope you do!
@@shesamadgardenerI went today! I got peace, Chicago peace, and moonlight magic! 🤞🏼I didn’t remember which ones you chose, but as I’m rewatching, we got two of the same. I’ll tag you on IG when I post pics. ❤
Looking forward to seeing the trellis from limbs. Learned a lot about roses from you. I have two knockout roses from Walmart that are 7 yrs old. Not blooming anymore. I think I will replace them now.
Before you replace them, consider giving them a nice hair cut and good fertilizer … I have a video on that this week!
I got quite a few from Walmart last year. Some died, but my favorite by far was Angel Face and if they have it again, I will be buying many of them. This was a great video!!
I mean Angel Face is such a cool name!
I'm definitely going to be getting the lavender crush. Might go today
Yay!
Thanks for the tips🌱🍃
No problem!!
Can you also shoot a video on the progress of the growth?
I just posted a video today on the roses … I’m moving several to the ground!
As someone who grew up and has grown beautiful roses near Galveston. I can tell you you will have to amend your soil at the site where you're going to plant your roses. Also, because of the humidity, you will HAVE to do preventative spraying with a fungicide (I use potassium bicarbonate) to prevent black spot. Plant your roses where they get morning sun and light shade in the afternoon. Be sure to deadhead any spent blooms. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks with Rosetone and a half strength gallon of fish emulsion every 2 wks (the fish emulsion is just because I get glossier foliage and full blooms. Rose-tone and fish emulsion are both organic. Watch out fir the Japanese Beetles and especially aphids on new growth. You can spray the aphids off w/a strong stream from your garden hose. The potassium bicarbonate is the ONLY fungicide that will actually kill black spot and powdery mildew as well as prevent it. You'll have to buy the Potassium bicarbonate online. (Neem oil burns the leaves on my roses). NEVER spray anything on your roses in the heat of the day and try to water at ground level. Mulch well to keep the soil cool. I know it sounds like a lot of work but, it's really not.😊
I forgot to add that Tha Antique Rose Emporium near Brenham, TX has a 1yr guarantee on their roses too AND their ALL own root (meaning NOT grafted) which IMO are stronger and better roses. If they freeze back to the ground, they come back from new growth beneath the soil level as the same rose. Grafted roses don't, they come back as whatever the rootstock is.
Lots of great tip! Thank you!
My pleasure fellow rose grower. Did you know that some Austin roses are grown in Tyler? Mine always ship from there. I called them once to see if I could pick them up instead of having to pay for shipping. Alas, the lady said no, no can do. I pick mine up from the Antique Rose Emporium. If you've never been there, you have to go. It's a magical place and the people who work there are incredible.
I have 5 years with my Rosa’s from Walmart, they’re very picky had to said. I had to removed bc they don’t like the soil, I also spray down dish soap (spoonful and cup of water) I just spray around for the insects
Yes, roses can be divas!
❤❤gonna grab 3..place in pots.
Great video
Good luck!
enjoyed your video as i too, am adding a few more roses this year , one is a replacement ,MORDEN/S BLUSH.i am also ordering 2 climbing ZEPHREN DROUGHIN and 3 ALL DRESSED UP. like you, i tend yo buy the less expensive roses that come in bags or boxes!
Wonderful! Those are beautiful roses!
Hi,
Watched your video and was very interested and have subscribed. I have had roses in the past. Some I purchased in pots from Home Depot or Lowe's and also from a rose grower. I hand little luck since I live in zone 11 south Florida. I have one that I purch as a bare root, not grafted and is still thriving in the garden. The other is a Knock Out Rose which is still alive too not a bare root purch... I have very sandy soil in Fla. (In ground) and wondered what to do to make them grow better. It gets very hot here in summer.
Have you considered planting in containers instead of the ground? That would give you better soil and allow you to move them to shade in the afternoons when it gets super hot.
Also HD has a huge variety of roses for 14.99 right now I even found some varieties that sell online for 3x the price.
I need to go check them out!
I bought 3 (red, white and yellow)from Walmart too. Two are having buds, and one is still dormant.
Those are going to be beautiful!
I took the risk and ordered 5 roses from DA and one florentina from Heirloom Roses (I read it grows aggressively). I am excited to start them. I have 1 DA rose currently and did great.
Wonderful! You are going to have some beautiful roses!
I went to so many Walmarts looking @ their bare roots and your store has SEVERAL I didn't find at ALL in my area (like the Purple climber - I'm so jealous 😅)
I was happy with the selection!
Thank you for sharing all the great information. Question? Why did you choose pots versus planting them in the ground? And have you had any problems with disease?
I want to be able to move them around the yard and don’t have a place where I want a rose planted in the ground right now.
Don’t be nervous - be brave! You are buying good genetics!
Thank you!
I have to go and get a lavender crush rose , from what Ive seen each Walmart has different types of climbing roses because I haven’t seen the lavender crush in any of mine, and my has florentina which i didn’t see urs had, and from what I’ve heard from a few people is that the true series roses (blue bag rose) are own root roses :)
That’s awesome if those True Blooms are own root!
I’d love to see you make a trellis. How often would you water your roses in the pots in winter?
I’ll be sure to do that! During the winter I water about every 5 days if it hasn’t rained.
love your choices. I've got a new one in a pot this year. Excited try them in a container. What is this journal you're using there? Love the detail in your videos. Thanks for all your work.
It’s a Happy Planner … I actually have a video coming out this week about my garden journal.
We struggle with black spot & Japanese beetles here in NC. I would love to add more roses 🤦♀️ though.
We struggle with RRD here 😢
Thanks😊!
You're welcome 😊
I'm drawn to the orange roses this year. So far only Lowes has roses in my area but I'll check Walmart again this week :)
I bought an "At Last" rose last year (from our local garden center), and I love it. Beautiful orange color and an incredible scent!
I bought an At Last as well and can’t wait to see it blooms this year!
Hopefully you will find some more orange tones soon!
I have had no success with roses the rabbits eat them all, im trying ONE more time in containers.....great video!
Sorry to hear that! Rabbits can take out a plant in a heart beat!
how are your roses doing now? I have the Crimson Knight Grandiflora that I bought last year from Walmart and they are doing great. One of them is blooming one after the other. The second one isn't blooming but it looks healthy.
I had two of the three leaf out … the last one is still green on the stems but hasn’t put on any leaves … I’m going to leave it a little longer!
All True Bloom Roses from Altman are own root and from breeder Ping Lim.
Thanks for the info!
You have great tshirts. Where did some of them come from?
I get most of them on Amazon or TEMU.
20 inch pot? I will swing by Walmart today to get 2 climbing roses. Have a great day 😊
Yeah, I would say 20 inches.
The bare root roses I bought last week have lots of leaves on them now. I haven’t had a chance to plant them. 😬 should I remove all the leaves? Leave them?
Nah, leave them!
@@shesamadgardeneronly 1/4 of my roses are doing anything. The rest look dead. They are watered, and I used a mix of compost too. Idk what to do?
I think I will buy two small roses and put them in pots.
Awesome!
Do you have to take all of the dirt off the roots and soak them? All we did was take paper off and keep them in the soil they came with, adding compost and native soil. We also added mulch. We have thick brown stems from the get-go-no green at all. So I’m assuming they are dead? :(
Nope you don’t have to take the soil off! … sometimes it takes awhile for them to leaf out but if it’s been more than a couple of months since you planted and there are no leaves, then it is dead.
❤aldis has these too..i believe less than $10
Nice!
I got two from Aldi two years ago. Cant😢 wait to see what they do in year three. Excited 😮😊
@@janeenclark8728 how are they doing? I bought 8 today. Do they grow fast?
Hi, hi, this is Joanne from California. What about planting roses in containers because I don’t have a yard, but I love roses. Any suggestions love your channel, I’ll keep watching.❤
Yes, all of these are planted in containers … I suggest researching which varieties do well in containers before you private!
What about in door ?? Flourecent led bulbs ? I don’t know if that’s correct? Long fluorescent? Would they work to grow the bush inside to avoid squirrels etc.
I would think you could do something like that but I’m not familiar with fluorescent bulbs so I don’t know if they have enough lumens.
I have not had luck with Walmart roses. They're never what theyre advertising. I got 5 different peach colored roses. 1 was a peach color. The other 4 were completely different. Id go with the ones that cost a few more bucks then get the expert gardener again. I got one that was supposed to be peaceful joey and was a primrose. None of them where even labeled or supposed to primrose.... wasnt my style at all. Best of luck 🤣most of them were still pretty just not what they were supposed to be.
Ugh, I hope mine work out but who knows 😬
So helpful, thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
packages don't seem to list what zone they are for.
Agreed … most of the time, I just Google to find out more information as needed.
I bought the expensive grafted ones and after a year, my expensive 4 of them turned out to ugly red/maroon/ burnt red flowers. Last one was lady Hamilton, with orangish flowers and turned out to be ugly red. I was heart broken. You can’t buy anymore Lady Hamilton.
Aww, that’s terrible! I’m so sorry that happened to you.
How long do I have to put blooms roses out of the pot into the ground
Okay my mom just bought me one of these and I just stuck it in a pot… will it survive 😂
Probably! Keep it watered and in full sun!
❤
❤️
🌿🌿🌿🌿
👒👒👒
How often do you need to water them?
Every three days or so depending on the rain.
?will these bloom the first year??
Yes, they currently have buds however the lavender crush died.
U need to make the rose straight. Yours is tilted.
Ok
Does anyone know if any of these are reblooming or do they just have one flush?
Peace and Chicago Peace are continuous bloomers and Lavender Crush is a repeat bloomer.
I think you should not feed that much an way to much food, use liquid fish food....
They are doing fine, but thanks!
Good morning, I love bare root rose’s season, your grafted roses are planted way too high, the graft union should be buried at least 2 inches below soil level; to protect the union in a freeze and to avoid the rose rocking back and forth, also it’s not recommended to use fertilizer on a bare root the young roots that will develop will burn. It’s only recommend to use liquid fertilizer for the 1st year. Hope this help in your new rose endeavors to give your babies the best start. Happy growing 😊 ruclips.net/video/5JsSb2cmWYc/видео.htmlsi=QQFpFKMGSYSXLiV6
I used this as a guild when I started out, and it helped
Good to know! Thanks! I’ll see about burying them deeper!
@@shesamadgardener No problem, I found out the hard way, one of my David Austin Eustasia Vye was damaged from rocking once the foliage developed, I took pictures and videos sent them to DA, to find out they were planted below the union. Thankfully, DA has amazing customer care, they replaced her and sent me the video I shared! Think I’ll go to Walmart and try their Peace you showed ❤️🌹
Yay I’m a hybrid tea rose lover! Your gonna love these. I love florabundas too, but I tend to pick off many buds then and let 2, 3 or 4 blooms have enough space and there time to shine. :D
Good to know about the floribunda!
