hey man, what magnets did you use? i made a prowler helmet off Do3d and cant find any magnets to attach the back plate, do you recon you could send the link?
Closing in on 1 million congrats ahead of time lol. I just got my new Saturn 12 k ultra and next up is another fdm printer so I can start printing helmets
That’s why i bought a PRUSA 2 yrs ago … 3800+ hrs of print time and i candy remember the last time I had to sand a print before priming. I print at .15mm by default and sometimes go to .10. Yes I can’t print helmets in one piece but I’ve build a full size Amban pulse rifle and heavy infantry tri barrel without issue. Speed doesn’t concern me as I’m not in production of things and the printer runs just fine in the middle of the night … “bambo stool the s/w from creality who stole it from Prusa … “. There’s a hint in there somewhere … lol
Yesterday is saw a video were a guy took 3d printing resind and brushed it on his 3d prints, hardened it with a UV light ( or put it on the window) and it was smooth like a baby butt. Interesting idea.
@@BenderRodriguezBender yeah i've seen the resin method, it's much more messy than using normal filler and filler primer however but it is a good bit quicker, also you need a respirator as it's not good for you at all lol
Honestly answered a question I've had for some time now. My friend and I each have a P1, but I'm a firm believer in PETG and paint whereas he settles for AMS and PLA. At the end of the day, I can see it both ways. I like something like this to be pretty from any distance, not just a picture. Paint wins for me.
The painted ones definitely look better. Both look good, but the painted ones just look more finished. Also, on the mesh side of things, another option is the screens they make for frying pans to prevent spatter. If you look in my avatar photo, that's what I used for the Mr. Knight Moon Knight mask. Cheap, paintable, and easy to work with (and they look way more opaque in person).
Personally, The raw 3D print looks great on Camara. However, I find that the painted version makes it look a whole lot better in person like Cosplay Events and Comicons. Also just knowing what paints to use for your cosplay to look more like the actual props or just better with your own design can be a bit challenging and sometimes just leaving it unpainted can work better for ya
I respectfully disagree. As much as I agree the offset looked kinda cool too. I think depending on the colour as he pointed out in the video.. some look better with a matching mesh some don’t. I think the white on white on white looks better but the white on red didn’t. The black mesh that didn’t match also looked slightly better too
In my case, not only the mat colors look better, they are also less brittle and less prone to getting "wet". Give them texture and you basically remove the layer lines.
I love your humility. Definitely one of my favorite qualities about you. You admit to mistakes and you give me a chuckle at the same time. Also great vid
the way you manage to fit the essential things and not overload the video with unnecessary information is amazing you're the reason I'm getting into 3D printing and I always go back to a lot of your tutorials as my "go-to" whenever I need to know anything

Hi frank! l am luca ,I just wanted to drop by and let you know how much I absolutely loved your 3D print video. It was truly fantastic! The attention to detail and the way you explained the process step by step was incredibly helpful and engaging. I was particularly impressed with all of your 3d printed things such as iron man helmets ,spider man helmets … Your passion for 3D printing really shines through, and its inspiring to see the incredible creations you bring to life. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us. Looking forward to more amazing videos from you in the future! Keep up the fantastic work! And in the future i hope you can make full detail video about iron man helmets with some free model, spider man no way home helmets with moving eyes!
Wow! the white painted version definitely looks way better than raw printed just because the texture on the painted version was much more clearly visible and prominent than the raw printed version. However if that level of detailing is not a concern, then yes, the raw printed version also looks superb and definitely saves a ton of time and energy because there is no sanding and painting.... Always love your videos... great stuff and awesome content... thanks for all the videos and the effort u put in to share your experiences.
its been so cool to see this channel grow, it seems you really love what you do and you help the community out so much! Thanks a ton and congrats on an early 1 mil!!!
Im so happy you made this video. From day 1, I always approached my helmets from the mindset that i was going to paint them. (so i bulk bought whatever color filament was the cheapest, because the color doesn't matter when you are painting them). As silly as it sounds, i never really thought about experimenting with filament colors instead of painting.
With the texture, the painted one looks better, It brings out the texture so much more. I'd be curious to see non-textured side-by-side. Also, the blacks really do need painted as the crown area of the mask really shows a shift in shade. Superb content as always. Second to none!
There are also various clear coats you can put over printed parts - like if you want a gloss or semigloss finish. While not paint free, it's a lot less work than a full paint job.
I have printed probably 7 sets of eyeframes and cant get a decent finish on them, He has also since redid the eye meshs because lots of folks had problems
The painted one had much clearer panel lines and seams and really made the helmet look more professional. Plus the metallic red eye frames are gorgeous of course. Curious why you didn't try to print the eye mesh or the eye "frames" on a resin printer? One of the best crafting methods is to use fast high quality FDM printers for the bulk parts and then use ultra-clean ultra high-resolution resin printing for the intricate details. Pretty sure the lenses would have come out great on a resin printer (though obviously, colour matching would be even harder!!) And finally, the top part/crown of helmets like this remain the biggest weakness of FDM printing. The visible layers lines and rough stepping as you reach the crown of the head is just unsightly. I was impressed to see how much better the textured helmets came out though - the differentiated surface really helped to hide the stepping. I'm eally wanting to pick up a Bambu to complement my resin printers and finally dump my awful Artillery Sidewinder. But I'm going to wait a bit longer and see how the rumoured X1E looks - fingers crossed its a bigger machine, at least 300-350mm!!
in my opinion the big difference between the painted and the raw is the metal red... the white part is only a different tone of white and I will not loose any time on it if the printed one came out as good as yours
hey frank thank for the tutorial spider-man 2099's white suit is one of my favorites. However in the video you did say that you weren't going to do a video on the differences between tree supports and regular ones and I would just really appreciate it if we at least got a short on the subject.
Rewatching this so i can learn more about my p1p while i wait for it to come in. Didnt know you could right click in bambu's slicer to block supports since the UI is so different than cura. I need to spend more time learning that software haha
I printed my first textured Spider-Man mask. I had a stringing problem. Would painting the piece with red spray paint and then with matte varnish help cover some defects?
Great vid again!! I know it’s more work and costs a bit more but maybe next time do a painted version that’s been painted with some automotive paint through a gravity gun. I know the spray paint is more accessible to everybody, but overtime it cost way more to use spray paint.
I’m new to 3D printing so new I should be getting my creakily K1 max today ! Thanks to you frankly built ! I can’t wait to get to 3D printing some helmets based off all the helmets I think I’m gonna start with this one first for my son seeing how it’s most easiest in my opinion and it’s textured and looks great ! Got any tips or anything to get me off to a good start ? Thanks ! Love you channel btw and you and your content is what’s getting me in to 3D printing!
Do you have any drooping in the dome for the ones printed on the P1P? Printed two, one on X1 and one on P1P, and with no support in middle it looked bad.
man, how are you getting such smooth rims where the supports meet the bottom of the helmet? every time i print with custom supports i get such chewed up edges
Great content. At what stage do you glue your magnets? Do you wait until after painting. Didn't know if the glue would stick to the paint or do you tape over them and then paint. Thanks!
