Manchester Jamaica is said to be the last parish that was created on the island.
It was formed in 1814 out of parts of the surrounding parishes of St. Elizabeth, Clarendon and Vere and was named after the Duke of Manchester who was Governor at that time.
The capital town of Manchester is Mandeville and it was named after the Duke's eldest son. In its early years Manchester’s population was never as large as neighbouring parishes. It is also said that primarily because of the hilly terrain, sugar was not grown there.
After emancipation however, many of the newly freed slaves sought to become independent land settlers and moved into the parish in order to grow coffee and other crops. In addition to being one of the leading producers of Irish potatoes on the island, the parish is also known for its high quality production of citrus, bananas and ground provisions.

Beautiful homes. You said 8 million for a lot. That's Canadian $70,000 , which is cheap by our money. So I looked at real estate listings there. Also quite reasonable. Then I found a listing for a property for Canadian
$ 4,714,923.00 , thats $538 million Jamaican. The Property has a name on the gate
" Fieldstone " and the pictures from the real estate listing are incredible. A true estate for a Lord. From what I could read, a lot of Jamaicans have earned overseas and return to build their dream homes. Is that the case.
I am 67 and I used to come to Mandeville in the 70's, 80's on business for Alcan aluminum. Those were tough times. And the area looked nothing like this. The pot holes were much worse.

People need to protect their investments!!! These homeowners can change their communities to a gated community. Fix their roads...don't wait for the government to fix it...even if it is the government's responsibility. Place look too nice fi have roads like dat. Get to know the member of parliament for that community. Work him or her....

They need to have a community association and monthly fees and use it for different projects in they're community, in which they can fix their own roads.
Very nice. Need plenty money to live in those areas. Insurance companies should pay taxes so that the roads can be fix.

Fire thanks for the video.Most times it is the building of these houses cause the roads to be like this.After the buildings are finished everyone forget the road and bawl on the government. Let these wealthy people put together and buy cement and coarse marl and pour the roads.l sm speaking from experience.

I remember years gone by when all the roads in Mandeville as they say was barber green...not a pothole...it hurt my heart to see the road condition like that...taxes for homes are paid every year...the government can pick an area every year and do some road works...the community can form an association where they meet and dues are collected to fix the road...where asphalt repairs are needed it get done on a timely basic to avoid those potholes getting bigger.

@@cislynbarrett4131 I lived in Mandeville for a few years and hands down they had the best roads through and through..even less traverse roads were beautifully paved...I was so disappointed seeing those roads...Fire Reid did an excellent job showing the houses...the homeowners have to come together and see what can be done because the government is not helping as far as I can see.
@@FireReid yes very bad...the homeowners have to get together and organize a fund raising event and use the funds gather to do asphalt repairs because a home without proper road access will depreciate in value don't care how big the houses are.

I am from the Noth Coast and in my area the roads are just the same. We need to hold these politicians accountable for their actions. They lined their pockets while we suffer and time after time we go out and vote for them.
