I’ve seen nothing but positive reviews and that makes me want to see this. Honestly I hope blumhouse goes big after this quality wise. I would love to see Blumhouse become the mainstream A24. They’ve had some bad but stuff like Nocturne and The Manor have been great for Amazon. Both deserved theatrical releases. Everyone was obsessed with The Perfection. I thought Nocturne was leaps and bounds better.
I'm seeing this next Friday and from seeing Codys review and your review I'm more excited because usually a horror movie I'm anticipated for ends up being disappoining and this was my 2nd most anticipated horror movie this year next to Nope, so I'm glad to see good reviews of this movie because man I was so anticipated for this. Great work as always🤟
Managed to see the final screening at my local cinema last night. In terms of scene for scene progression this movie is SOLID. Loved how unshowy it was and it had the 70s feel down without trying to use it was nostalgia wallpaper to mask shoddy story telling. Great cast and Madeline McGraw was the MVP.
I've been hearing great things about this movie. But don't always go by the applause at the end bc there was applause at the end when I went to see Power Rangers in 2017 so not always guaranteed for great movies like this one.
I’m excited to watch this. I’ve been a huge Ethan Hawk fan since Training Day, but it’s nice to hear that the youth in this film have impressive performances as well. I’m really glad this is getting good reviews, Blumhouse can totally do good movies if they set their mind to it
saw it tonight as well loved it got me choked up in the end 😥 also realy curious to see what scott would’ve done with doctor strange 2 if he hadn’t left
As I scrolled down the comments, I noticed that someone said Stephen King's son wrote this shirt story. And I was gonna add that it did kind of feel like a Stephen King movie. Like one of his best! But what a coincidence that I almost mentioned, that yes it felt Kingish.
Yep that was me. His son Joe Hill wrote it and Stephen King tweeted about on Twitter yesterday about how excited he was for Black Phone to come out. That it was based on his son Joe’s story.
I'm so looking forward to seeing this! Ethan Hawke kinda taking on some bigger roles just this year has been really awesome for me as a fan of his work. Really happy you enjoyed it, man!
Great review I’m definitely looking forward to watching the black phone this week and marcel the shell with shoes on as well. And Scott Derrickson is one of the best horror director’s of the last decade.
Lee I wonder if the reason it feels like a Steven King flick is because it is based off of The story written by his son. I can’t wait to see this movie. Nothing but excellent reviews o this flick!!
Just seen the movie yesterday. And all the anticipation I had for this film, I was not let down. A lot going on in this movie, and I loved every minute. The plot and story, Ethan Hawke was as always on top of his game, I mean a total whacko! I liked that there was a bit of a twist I didn't realize. All the boxes were checked, and it was very well paced. Definitely the best horror and possibly movie I've seen this year. I really loved how they really brought us back to that late 70s era, even with the shows that were on TV, they really got the era down perfectly. So believe the hype because this movie is well worth it! Wanna thank Drum for your spoiler free review a few days ago. I seen it as soon as I could. And I highly recommend this one as well. Great horror movie, well written, the whole package! And that's all I'm saying about this one of a kind movie! So get out there and see it! Trust me, this movie was everything and more! Loved it! #TYAGAINDRUM
I get that it was a bit hard for you to give the review without letting the cat out of the bag. I am a horror guy and I may actually see this in a movie house. Ethan has had a fantastic sort of second career as a horror actor, starting with Sinster and Purge. He seems like such a cool guy and talented that it is funny he has found his niche as a horror actor. Also he has stated on many occasions he isn't a horror movie fan. I think I may very well check this film out.
This movie looks good my dad really likes Blum house he said the mask looks freaking horrifying. I am really excited for this movie I am 13 I literally want to see the movie by myself but I have to see it with an adult. Love you Lee. Have a great day.
Blumhouse is the Netflix of horror, in that they have no quality control whatsoever. Sure, they occasionally put out something that's legitimately great, but not that often.
Scott derickson is becoming one of my favrouite horror directors I don't normally enjoy haunted house movies they bore me but sinister was an exception and also hellraiser inferno which unpopular opinion I really enjoy I can't wait to watch this Friday.
Lee I’m very happy this Serious Horror movie managed to be accurate for a kid fighting an adult since the kid doesn’t just easily defeat the Grabber. In 3 Ninjas and other movies have the nonsensical cliche that is kids easily defeat adults.
‘The Black Phone’ is such an interesting new horror/psychological thriller movie. Famous film actor and Oscar-nominated Ethan Hawke’s performance is both terrifying and impressive at the same time.
ethan hawke is quite recognizable though in older movies, lee in fact, if you look at his Imdb, his movie role selection before this film is quite remarkable anyway, One of the movies that i saw on a vhs opener on youtube was a trailer for a drama called Alive which has Hawke with other actors playing these survivors of a airplane crash and that they are basically stranded on a mountain waiting to be rescued, but what happens during the film is kinda suspenseful, its Not as disturbing as most movies from today, But i would reccomend that this film get a review and it is i think from 1993 i believe Hawke was also in films like white fang and dead poets society, as well as films like training day and gattaca but recently i noticed him in the Before trilogy just by watching the trailers for each film
Looking really forward to checking this out once I get over my really bad cold I’ve been dealing with. It’s awesome seeing two Trapped on an Island Theater movie releases back to back! I don’t think you’ve ever done this before!! Haha. Elvis was really great though!
I haven't seen this one yet, but I definitely plan too. I just watched a film called Office Uprising, it was definitely a fun one to watch. A lot of carnage and a pretty good cast. Have you all seen it? If so, what are your thoughts? If not, I definitely recommend it.
this movie hit home personally with me especially the bullies ( i had to hide from them after school because it was so bad at times stealing lunch money, wedgies etc) the kid actor who played vance hopper hit it so right on the nose. it scared the daylights out of me because of the flashbacks i got from watching the movie.
I am glad to hear The Black Phone is good! I think the problem is while Blumhouse is capable of making good films but a lot of the time they have been putting out stinkers and there handling of classic properties has been all over the place, The Invisible Man is a great movie, Black Christmas is horrible, Fire Starter was not good and Halloween has so far been a mixed bag at best so I don't want Blumhouse getting A Nightmare On Elm Street or Friday The 13th and I hope whoever gets Halloween next does a better job!
I thought this would be a force, Lee. Not crazy about a lot of Blumhouse productions, but 2022 has been good to me so far.... The Viking, Top Gun Maverick, the Elvis bio-pick, bought my tickets to the 40th Anniversary screening of The Thing.... gonna try to squeeze this in between concerts & if my check-book can catch up😄.
I absolutely loved this movie from start to finish. My favorite character was definitely his sister. Such a badass little girl who stood up for herself and her brother and just took no bs. Ethan Hawke was great, the kid who played Finney was great and the scenes with the dead kids helping him to get out of there… just perfect. With a perfect payoff in the end. A straight 9/10
This might be spoiler free, but I still waited til I saw the film before watching, since Australia's release date is later in July. Thank you, advanced screening tonight! So worth it!
I give it a 8/10, the theater was filled to the brim and yes they clapped as well after. I literally told my buddy its like Silence of the lambs and IT had a baby and i think i was spot on thanks to you!!
Wonder if it was filmed in Colorado. Reason I wonder, that one outdoor shot, think I've been there before. 🤔 But anyways, I would say, that company is a mixed bag, if they get the right people working on it, like this sounds like it was, can be good, if not, it's hot garbage. So, if they do get the rights, just hopefully have the right people working on them. Anyways, thank you, Lee.

Thanks for this, man. I'm new to your videos, but I've been digging them. I find myself agreeing with your views and outlook toward films quite a bit. I've been very curious about this movie because I've heard a lot of good things, but I wasn't sure if another captivity flick was for me. That said, I love Ethan Hawke. You know I love this one just as much as you did Lee! (check out my review and you'll see). You're right about Madeleine McGraw as she steals every scene she's in, especially with her 'quick-witted' answers to adults. This is the best horror movie so far this year! Nuff said!
This wasn’t based on a Stephen King story, it’s based on a Joe Hill story (Stephen King’s son). Also, the entire part about ghosts on the phone helping out Finn is in every single trailer.
I just saw Black Phone lee it was great and you were right it was a combination of all of the movie's you mentioned the performances were amazing especially by the 2 kids the sister stole the show 9.2/10
Movie was OK; needed alot more Hawke and a far better ending, I was hoping for a more messy Summer Of 84 ending whereas this was more neat and tidy and came off generic which is a shame as I was really enjoying it until the ending.
Can’t wait to see this with my mom next week. I heard there is a new Blum house logo?! That possibly features Myers?
I’ve seen nothing but positive reviews and that makes me want to see this. Honestly I hope blumhouse goes big after this quality wise. I would love to see Blumhouse become the mainstream A24. Steven King's son wrote this story... how cool is that?!
So cool!
@Mookie Blaylock that’s steven kings son
Was about to say that. Joe Hill is heavily influenced by his dad.
Ethan Hawke has been in some great movies. Gattaca, Training Day, Sinister, Explores, Dead Poet's Society, Brooklyn's Finest...
Most anticipated film of 2022 IM READY the story is by Joe Hill. Stephen Kings son
You sold it to me again I had to get those tickets for Thursday night thanks once again
Blumhouse has made wayyyy more good movies than bad movies lol
Knowing that the director of this film also made SINISTER. Made me super excited to see this film. 👻😄
Will this mask become iconic? As iconic as the hockey mask, the burnt face or the inside out William Shatner mask. Only time will tell.
Absolutely not . The Grabber is not on screen enough.
Definitely gonna check this one out. Thanks!
You won't be disappointed.
Joe Hill, Stephen King's son wrote the short story this movie is based upon, who is a brilliant author in his own right, Brilliant review Lee.
Super pumped for tomorrow =D lets see if this dethrones X
A absolute joy to watch this review Lee you summed this excellent movie up brilliantly.

Hell yeah brother. This was easily one of the best of the year.

Same director. But it has more Stephen King vibes.
This is a very good & thrilling film. I would throw a little Sixth Sense also
The movie is written by Joe Hill who is Stephen Kings son
