I've just ordered a design to be digitised today. I could not work my way around Hatch! I've had a brother for years now and have just upgraded to the PE800. I love it! Thank you for your very helpful tips 😊
Lots of helpful information. I was one of those thinking I could just take a picture, put it on a flash drive, plug it into my machine, and watch the magic happens. How wrong I was. Thank you.
great overview of machine embroidery. I bought the little brother combo machine a few years ago. It was a good introduction to machine embroidery. I agree the combo machine has a lot of limitations that your embroidery only machine does not have. But since I don't do lots of embroidery it's just a nice extra to have on those rare occasions that I want to do something a little extra. I also have a seperate serger machine and a big straight stitch machine. I agree. I would not want to have one machine to do everything for me.
My grandma's serger was threaded in one way a decade ago, and that's what we use. It's a pain to rethread so I try to never change the color of the thread. I've wanted an embroidery machine for a while. Maybe after quarantine I'll splurge.
you should use some water soluble stabilizer on the top of that tampa bay design, it will decrease the pull on the fabric, especially if youre embroidering on t-shirts, and will look a lot more crisp!
What's nice with the embrillance software you can buy different programs and add onto it. So you can pay for it program by program so you don't have to pay so much upfront.
High I feel like explaining what digitizing is would be a helpful idea. Digitizing is the process of adding stitches to a file you have. Editing software will allow you to add separate things on a designs like a basting stitch or knock down stitch. You can get sew what pro for 65 dollars embrillance essentials is just under 200 hope some can find this useful
Hi there. I wanted the 800, couldn't find it so I got the 770 two weeks ago (a preload machine). Love it and having fun! Just found out that the _ is for spacing when entering more than one word. Followed your instructions on downloading a font from Etsy. Even got the same font. Today I got a free pattern from Urban Threads but can't seem to get it on my USB. I've sent them an email. Thanks for sharing.
Can you make a video on snuggle pouches, pet booties, and pet costumes? I just found your videos cause I just got this embroidery machine and I fell in love with your videos!! I feel inspired when watching your videos!!
Hey I luv ur videos!! I have a very important question I need an answer to because it’s causing me so much frustration: how come when I digiztize a design in my software (stitch artist level 1) it doesn’t always come out exactly how I design it? Is it my software that’s the problem or me or what? Please let me know!!
Okay thanks for sharing this information with us. I was considering the dual embroidery and sewing machine combo but I will not go that route. I still have my manual Brother lx2763 but want to upgrade.i know you have a lot of machines ,which Brother product do you recommend?
Is it possible to make chenille patches on the Brother PE800, I have been using Fiverr to outsource my digitizing and found a vendor who says that he can create a chenille PES file for me but I am afraid it will not work. Can you make a video on how to make chenille patches?
I am still confused on how to upload my logo to the machine. I have someone to make my logo, but we are confused on how to convert it. Like does it support png format etc.
Want to commend you on a fantastic job you did on explaining the differences of a Embroidery only machine vs a Embroidery/Sewing Combo. And software is such a confusing entity of it's own. I'm a past sales associate and current free lance teacher. Anybody who wants to talk or ask about software I immediately tell them if they don't have a pocketful of money to speed and about a year dedicated to learning the software it's easier and cheaper to hire someone to do it for you. Just like you said in your video. Bravo!! for spot on information..
Thank you for weighing in. Do you have any opinions on the free software SophieSew? Years ago, my husband played around a lot with SophieSew, but didn't really find it to be amazing. He tends to have a very easy time with computer software and becoming proficient with new skills quickly, and just couldn't produce designs that stitched out well. Someone else may have had a better experience though.
@@SewingReport I'm not sure, I think I've looked at it once. I'm going to look at it now and give you my input. Even though I've worked in the industry of high end home sewing/quilting/embroidery machines and all the software that follows this is what I have learned on my own trial and error. I've asked others in the industry the same questions as I have been asked.. At on time I thought I was going to jump ship from my Husqvarna Viking software and go to Embird. But the cost in the end wasn't that much different and the only support would have been by phone. I like the idea that I could go to a dealer and ever since I worked for a dealer I too learned from my customers. I did do a subscription with Stitch Era embroidery. I was pretty satisfied especially for the price. And yes I only want to create my own from scratch. So "digitizing" is the proper term. I personally didn't like the reality of no matter which software you used in the end you had to digitize it and tweak it at best in 3 sew outs. I think now ever since I basically stayed with Viking Software all these years and such vast improvements have been made most (not all) I nail it and don't need to tweak. So the first sew out is what I want. Again I think some of that is the fact I know where to look at the design in digital form and see where the "compensation" is needed. I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. But me even with my employee discount I've spent a chunk of change over the years. And I think the software across the board is made better now. But our software language and hardware are better than ever. I'll go take a look at Sophie Sew

WOW! thank you! this was VERY helpful. i prefer embroidery by hand, but if i were to need a lot of embroidery done, i'd have to get a machine. i am not fan of machine embroidery :(
All embroidery machines use the same basic principles to move the hoop around, so if you want to create or edit designs it might be better to check out which software you like best. Most software programmes output designs in formats for all brands. If you are short of space a combo machine is best. Changing to embroidery is as simple as sliding in the embroidery unit and changing out the bobbin, it takes seconds, much less time and complication than when changing a combo serger to the coverstitch function. Embroidery machines are updated regularly and depreciate worse than your car, so buying a serviced second hand model makes good sense. Beware the small 4" x4" hoop embroidery only machines, you will soon find the size too restrictive.A 5" x7" hoop should be your minimum, 6" x 10" hoops are better. Beware the really expensive machines with 12" x12"
Very large hoops make it hard to keep the fabric taut, which can lead to registration problems with the embroidery, for example outlines no longer marry up with the full stitches. In order to keep the fabric taut you may accidentally stretch it out of shape, so stick to slightly smaller hoops and do multiple bookings instead. Plus very large designs will take hours to stitch out and cost a fortune on thread. Ways to save money: applique fabric instead of stitching out large areas of fill stitches. Older designs tend to have satin borders, these may be appropriate but often they are used instead of an old fashioned seam and use large amounts of thread for no real gain. I have created basic templates for boxes and bags in die cutting software, exported as an svg, and then digitized them in software (Premier Plus Ultra by Husqvarna Viking) I use the basic templates as backgrounds to place smaller designs, that I have either digitized or purchased. It is easy to recreate this yourself. Buy a few in the hoop designs for bags, glasses cases, purses, etc. Save the outlines as separate files and then use the machine to merge other motifs on to these basic background templates. Most bags are based on simple rectangles, squares and circles which may already be built into your machine.

I love Brother machines. I have a brother Quattro a combo machine also just got an nq1700e. Love machine embroidery. I have thousands of designs.
This isn't sewing related but just have say that your hair looks great!
I love my PE800. I’ve had it for a year and and a half and have found it pretty easy to use, once you get the right stabilizers.
Can you stitch on the sides of caps with this?

McGeorge/Joe.
Do I need to buy soft wear to do appliqués for this machine
Not necessarily software, but the design itself must be specifically an applique.
Sewing Report thank you
How much did y’all pay for the machine?
If I import designs, can they be downloaded to an iMac laptop to put on a memory card?
You *should* be able to, but I've never owned an iMac so I can't personally attest. Definitely *no* to iPhones / iPads though.
