Looking forward to finding out more about your brandy channel, been following the rum channel for some time and have started to buy a few rums really enjoying them. To many spirits to little time. Keep up the great video’s.
Great review of different brandies. And yes there are some delicious plum brandies here in Balkans (rakia) but also apricot brandies, quince and of course grape brandies. I’ve tasted some fantastic long matured (20+ years) Bulgarian rakias, just amazing brandies..cheers!
Hey Steve, I'm watching you from Brazil, South America. Enjoying your channels a lot. Brazil is known as the land of Cachaça. But here we have a big production of wine in the south region. And some of the wineries there produce brandies. Examples are "Miolo" and "Casa Valduga". Wish could try those.
Country's who make pretty good brandy: romania, moldova( they call it vinars or divin, i don't know if any are available in the uk), Greece ( metaxa although they don't call themselves brandy they do enter that category) Germany (asbach) Armenia (Ararat )
the only reason i havent subbed before was cause i for some reason couldnt find the black channel i love everything about it though! love the niche and the presentation even more although i was trying to imagine steve all posh with a suit and cuban cigar and all as a cognac drinker, didnt go well
Some of the details you gave for pisco only apply to the Peruvian kind. Chilean pisco can be aged in wooden barrels, and I believe unaged Chilean pisco isn't as common. One of the other main differences is that Peruvian pisco can only be distilled once and can't be diluted with water.
Oooo, interesting. This needs more knowledge, cos I don't think Arak is actually a Brandy. The Aniseed is not Distilled, it's extracted/Infused...and I'm not convinced its brandy based. Kinda like Sambuca, Ouzo and Pastis. So, I'm pretty sure, maybe only 75% that it's not "Brandy". But, honestly, thats just a hunch.
That all depends on the Schnapps to be honest. Schnapps made from Fresh Fruit and Fermented then Distilled, yup...essentially Eau de Vie so a Fruit Brandy. However, Schnapps made by simply infusing fruit into a Neutral Grain Spirit - aka Vodka - (vast majority of Schnapps), then they're nothing more than a Liqueur... and actually no different to a Bols or De Kuyper or any other brand of Liqueur. Just maybe without the Colour...
Yup, pretty sure that's spot on. I've got Armagnac coming up in a few weeks. I know there's a few other differences too, other than Stills... but can't quite remember without looking.

I’m new to your channels, but I too share your love of brandys. Try Copper & Kings from the US if you have a chance.
Keep up with the great videos! here in Israel along side the wine industry we also have a few distilleries for brandy (from grapes and apples as well)
Nice!!! I love that, thank you. Had no idea, but then stands to reason that most countries would distill something!
Kirschwasser cherry brandy is another
Yup, good shout. I mean it's a Fruit Brandy/Eau Di Vie, so bracketed under them, but then i did mention Plum Brandy i suppose... 👍

Thank you! Looking forward to my Pisco Deep Dive…we’ll probably more Shallow Dive. But it’s a spirit I’ve not really ever explored!
Correct me if I'm wrong Steve but I believe that you missed out Arak.

Where do schnapps lie in this world? We went to Denmark and had some serious gear, definitely not just fruit..are these infused base alcohol?

Cognac has to be distilled twice and Armagnac can only be distilled once(?).
