I like sipping VS, VSOP and XO Brandy. The VS has very nice bright fruit flavor I enjoy

The question I often have about statements of average age is…. Does the average mean the volume of liquid in the bottle conforms to the average? For example if the stated average is 25 years, 50% of the bottle is filled with 10 year old and 50% of the bottle is filled with 30 year old?
I could easily believe that this is not the case, and, to use the example above, most of the bottle contains 10 year old spirt and only a small portion of the liquid is 30 years.

Yeah, exactly the latter. You can usually judge it on price. Average Age has nothing to do with Quantity/Volumes...you will never know that, simply because that is why Blenders get paid big bucks (in ANY Spirit). If specific ration were given out, that'd be the inner most Trade Secrets...and easier for people to replicate. So average Age is always based on the Spirits used. Lets take 2x XO Cognacs. Well the cheaper one of the 2, you can be pretty safe in the knowledge that has a significantly less proportion of Higher Aged Stuff. BUT...never ever assume old is Better! It comes back to what I just said...it's ALL ABOUT BLENDS and why Blenders get paid big bucks. Rum, Whiskey, Cognac, Tequila, etc etc etc...its all about Blending multiple Barrels together to create one final superb liquid.

I drink VSOP neat. You forgot about vintage Cognac.

Yeah I guess. But it depends what you mean. Vintage in age would come under Reserve or Hors d’Age. But yeah. There’s a small amount of “Single Vintage” about, as in Cognac distilled in 2012 or 2017 for example 👍

I do too with high end cognac! Delicious! My first live is single malt scotch but a wonderful cognac is also nice once in awhile!

Close but no cigar Steve 😉 The "s" is silent in "hors" so pronounce it like "or" in English. You're welcome 😜
