If you are upgrading or replacing a Mac hard drive and you don't have an operating system, this video will explain how to get your new Mac hard Drive up and running. This method will work on any iMac, Macbook, Mac Mini, Mac Pro, Macbook Air, and Macbook Pro. The commands to create macOS Bootable Pendrive: support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Use the 'createinstallmedia' command in Terminal Connect the USB flash drive or other volume that you're using for the bootable installer. Make sure that it has at least 12GB of available storage and is formatted as Mac OS Extended. Open Terminal, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder. Type or paste one of the following commands in Terminal. These assume that the installer is still in your Applications folder, and MyVolume is the name of the USB flash drive or other volume you're using. If it has a different name, replace MyVolume in these commands with the name of your volume. Catalina:* sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume Mojave:* sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume High Sierra:* sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume El Capitan: sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app Press Return after typing the command. When prompted, type your administrator password and press Return again. Terminal doesn't show any characters as you type your password. When prompted, type Y to confirm that you want to erase the volume, then press Return. Terminal shows the progress as the bootable installer is created. When Terminal says that it's done, the volume will have the same name as the installer you downloaded, such as Install macOS Catalina. You can now quit Terminal and eject the volume. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The three methods are: 1. Cloning 2. USB or DVD install 3. Apple Internet Recovery How to Install OS X or macOS onto a new blank Hard Drive Three ways to do this: • Cloning - If you have any drive with OS X on it we can clone it onto the new drive. • USB or DVD - If you have the original installation disk or USB, otherwise we will make one. • Internet Recovery - Using apple Internet Recovery Option (Requires High-Speed WiFi) Now for our USB or DVD option: If you have original installation disk or USB pop it in, press and hold Option during boot up and select the media manually or the Mac will find the bootable device automatically when powered on. If you don’t have a bootable Mac USB or DVD, watch the video in the description on how to make a bootable OS X drive. Keep in mind that many newer Macs are configured with planed obsolescence and will not boot older OS X operating systems. Create the appropriate OS X or macOS USB for you Mac model. Hi, I just purchased a used mid 2007 imac 24" and it has a external drive which it's set to boot to El Capitan and if I unplug it the mac just shows apple logo and question mark over and over. I'm just wondering the process of how to install it on the imac internal drive from the external drive if it's even possible and have it boot from it instead of having to have external drive attached. Thanks for any help I'm new to mac's.
Yes it is possible make a bootable usb drive then try to install on internal hard drive
So there's no simple way to get it from the external drive it boots from right now and copy it to the internal drive? Guy who I got it from programs for a space agency so I figured he would have done it that way had it been easy. Thanks@@Iamkantiray

That is not true if it had El Capitan you can re install it. And you can install the other version OS too if it supports

@@Iamkantiray True...tried a lot of times with no success. Also on my computer didn't work getting El Capitan straight on. I had to first install Yosemite and then update to El Capitan. Very weird but if anyone is having the same problem, here's the solution...

Hi, sorry but your method does not seem to work when opening the pkg file on OSX 12.5.1. When I double click on the 'pkg' file I get the error message that "This version of AS X 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer." I'm seeking to create a USB install file using a modern MacBook for use on an old MacBook Air.
You don’t have to install just to extract the file to app folder please check the app folder if there is any file has been extracted

I’m having the same problem. When I double click InstallMacOSX.pkg, it says that version cannot be installed on this computer. I do not see an Install app extracted in the applications folder.

Hey man I followed your steps and get stuck at the apple logo with progress bar about 3/4 full it will boot into regular recovery no issues , but it won’t boot when I try it with the flash drive
Did you use the right dmg file. Did you use a wired keyboard instead of wireless. Hold option key while booting and use a wired keyboard
@@Iamkantiray yes I figured it out . My keyboard has a USB port on it , and my Xbox controller is connected to it , it’s my gaming keyboard. I disconnected that usb and voila , it booted

Hi! i have installed the Install El Capitan” on my usb-drive, and inserted the usb-drive into my Imac, pressed ”alt”, and started up the computer.
I chose the ”Install El Capitan”-icon on the usb-drive, and double-clicked.
Then i went into Disk Utility, and
this is when you said i should erase the usb-drive….? (at 14.30 into the video)
or what do i do then?

You can’t create bootable usb using windows pc. Also you did flash the Rom of the bios while install the chrome os you need to work on that too

I have a 2007 iMac. I'm using the internet to reinstall it. Before I do this, I unmorph the hard disk and then do the installation. As soon as the installation is finished, the computer just opens the recovery menu again. And so on and so forth

Everything was going well until I pasted the the El Capitan line in the terminal. I received and error message "/Volumes/Installer is not a valid volume mount point
The name of your usb drive need to match
@@Iamkantiray yes, I changed it. I erased the my volume in the code and put installer Mac
I shortened it to just installer and I get the same message.

when i try to extract the installer pkg .
M1 pro will not support this version of Mac it’s need Mac OS 12 at least
And m1 will not support the intel based Mac OS
