The words roos and won cannot be in someone’s name, and must be changed - flower related terms like rose (and roos, which is too similar to rose) and big verbs like win / won and lead / led and reign / reigns etc only reflect me, and cannot be misused by humnz in names or when talking about oneself / others! Terms that are or contain any big / food / astral / nature / gemstone/ light / power / love / forest / fruit / flower / compIiment / season / color / respectability / plant related terms etc cannot be misused in names or when talking about oneself / others, and items that reflect such terms / have such designs that reflect any of those big / nature / purity related terms or shiny / glittery / precious / luxury / colorful items also cannot be misused by humnz! Edibility / food related terms cannot be misused in any way! And, special names also cannot be in someone’s name!

As for that dude El’n, he does not belong on Mars and the nature related term musk is not suitable for humnz and his name also shouldn’t have on in it - only I belong in the sky / flying / in space and only I can be on or over etc, and also the pure guys that protect me, so only we The Alphas can go to Mars! And a dude that isn’t pure / v!rgin by choice and on my side cannot be allowed to go to space or misuse things such as pIanes / choppers etc! Only I reflect that which is above, so only I reflect words that include on and over and nature related terms and items that reflect such terms etc!

The words / names op and hel and Lia and vert cannot be in someone’s name, and must be changed - only I reflect such names / terms, and the word great also only reflects me, and the words helpful or well-explained etc must be used instead when referring to videos that teach languages etc! A really excellent explanation, not surprising the watched to subscribed ratio is almost 1:1. Im finding it really helps to have a decent understanding of basic grammar before attempting to learn Dutch, it certainly makes following this video much easier.

Fully agree. It quite challenging to pretend as if you don't notice the word order gymnastic even for simple sentences when beginning to study.

The big terms Star and led and food term pancake cannot be misused in names or comments about oneself / others etc, and must be edited out - such terms only reflect me, and terms that are or contain any big / food / astral / nature / gemstone/ light / power / love / forest / fruit / flower / compIiment / season / color / respectability / plant related terms etc cannot be misused in names or when talking about oneself / others, and items that reflect such terms / have such designs that reflect any of those big / nature / purity related terms or shiny / glittery / precious / luxury / colorful items also cannot be misused by humnz! Edibility / food related terms cannot be misused in any way - including items that are used for cooking etc like pot / pan etc, and it’s beyond disrespectful to food / plants / flowers when humnz misuse such terms (or any other nature related terms) in names / yt names etc! Cakes / pancakes and Stars and the verb lead / led only reflect me the only sweet / edible being and the only astral being and the only Leader aka The Supreme Leader / The God / The Lady / The Royalty / The Saint / The Goddess etc, and foods / plants / flowers / forests / fruits / trees etc are pure and sacred non-moving beings who only reflect me the pure / sacred being (the opposite of womyn/humnz) and, pure animaIs like birds / bees / butterflies etc also only reflect me!

I am impressed with the quality of your production and came to search for clarity on the difficult topic of Dutch grammar. It is confusing that you said object when referring to subject however no one else commented on this except in the nomenclature S-V-R and V-S-R. I have subscribed and will learn more from your video playlist. Thank you. I am a novice that is not good at identifying the terms used for grammar in my own language, so the Dutch grammar terms are very difficult to equate to my early childhood English language lessons.

Hey! What about the object and other elements of the sentence: “Ik heb gisteren in het park een cadeau aan mijn broer voor zijn verjaardag gegeven” but then “voor zijn verjaardag” could also go at the end. Right?

So modal verb imposes the same sentence structure with infinitive like modal verbs do in German? Interesting. It also seems like interesting idea to make a video which relates and expands the article from duolingo. That's the beauty of teaching Your own native language to someone- You learn more of your own language along the way. I hope more episodes are coming. And that You will get more time for You own language learning in the future.

    • @theeivn

It was explaind to me that it pretty much depends on the word that you use to join two separate sentances together (de hoofdzin and de bijzin)
De hoofdzin: Ik wil vanavond naar bioscoop gaan.
Ik wil vanavond naard de bioscoop gaan MAAR (But) ik moet studeren.
      Bijzin: Ik moet studeren.
So when you use words like:
      Maar - but
      En - and
      Of - or
      Want - because
The word order in the bijzin stays the same like in the hoofdzin wich means.
      S-V-R
Subject is in the first place, verb is in the second.
R means rest, so that includes time, manner and then place.
      BUT!
When you join hoofdzin and the bijzin with words like:
      Omdat
      Terwijl
      Als
      Dat
The word order in bijzin changes.
Hoofdzin: Ik zal naar je huis komen.
Ik zal naar je huis komen ALS (If) ik vrije tijd heb.
So when hoofdzin and bijzin are joined with words like (OMDAT, TERWIJL, DAT, ALS). The word order in bijzin is
      S-R-V
Subject is in the first place, then comes time, manner and place and in the last spot is verb.
      Sorry for lousy english.

Hey, 'vliegt' is a verb. Did I fail to mark it green somewhere? Ik vlieg, jij/hij/zij/u vliegt, wij/zij/jullie vliegen.

It would be interesting to expand on why the position of the verb in sentences with subclauses changes the way You described at the end of this video. Since we see it happen in last two examples but it is not entirely clear from this video why it happens. Is it suppoed to happen in a subordinate clause or is there another reason behind it? Is there any rule for that? Seems to me that it's important to get it clear. Especially given that sentence structure with examples of coordinating conjunctions suggests that syntax in Dutch requires following very strict word order rules. And out of the blue at the end of this video You give examples of moving verbs to a different position. So would be good to explain precisely why and when it should happen.

    • @TomCatchesUp
      @TomCatchesUp  6 лет назад +1

Hey, thanks for all this! You've given me a lot of extra stuff to think about and read up on. After a little bit of googling I get the feeling that sub clause is just short for subordinate clause - so in that case you're right. Verbs in a subordinate clause move to the end of the sentence, just because it is a subordinate clause.
I might do a more advanced follow-up to this video in the future (granted that I can figure out how the grammar works myself :p ), but there are a couple of other basic subjects I want to get out of the way first.

I'm learning Dutch now. If I'm not mistaken, the "inversie" happens with "omdat" (because) but it doesn't happen with "want" (because). For example:
Ik blijf thuis omdat ik ziek ben.
      but
Ik blijf thuis want ik ben ziek.
      But I could be wrong.
