    Hello!
I just found your podcast today as I was getting ready for a 10km walk and preparing some Dutch podcasts to keep me company. I listened to two of yours and loved them. I will definitely go through the remaining 22 as well! Then I followed your IG and YT addresses and just watched 2 videos here too and actually have a question related to the word order that I have been unable to find an answer to!
When you have a subordinate clause with the perfect tense like: Ik zei dat hij naar Frankrijk is gegaan.
In books I see mostly the given example, however the following word order has also shown up here and there: Ik zei dat hij naar Frankrijk gegaan is.
And then, while trying to find an answer online, I found the post of a person on a forum who had also in vain been looking for the same, and he mentioned that his Dutch teacher said to stick with the 'is gegaan' order since otherwise he may end up with grammatical habits that make him sound German. Yet his Dutch friends and colleagues at work tell him 'gegaan is' is correct and that the other one sounds bad!
What is your explanation? I am sure the general recommendation is the first one since it’s what’s taught in the books, but what about the second version? Good or just fine? Frowned upon?
Thank you so much for your answer!

Hi Anita, thanks for listening/watching and the kind compliments :) And good question! I do have a straight answer, and a link to go with it.
Basically it is just a matter of preference. IS GEGAAN traditionally was the order used more in the western parts of the Netherlands, and GEGAAN IS in the eastern parts. So, that Dutch teacher was right about it sounding a bit more German, in a way, but actually most Dutch people nowadays would prefer GEGAAN IS over IS GEGAAN. Hope this help!

@@dutchtoday Oh FANTASTIC, thank you so much, finally I have an answer, and an interesting one to boot! I am a native Swiss German speaker and GEGAAN IS is definitely more intuitive for me, however I have forced myself to do the switch every single time thinking it needed to be that way. Then, as I had mentioned, I saw the flip side every now and again in an article or such. However, most of my Dutch conversations are with non-native speakers and then they will think that I am making mistakes, haha!
