Alex Grinch's defense was great today. Held Cal to under 50 pts
Yo...You trippin? The defense was horible. Trash for word.
Read the room. @@nfloz11
It was an obvious joke, my man.@@nfloz11
@@nfloz11 He was being sarcastic.
Lol
We don't have a defense, we have 11 guys who make sure the other team scores.
You never had a defense
You just need to live with it. No defense. Deal with it.
The defense won UsC the game. Williams just isn’t that good.
Except on the 2 pt try
it worst every game smfh and im sick of riley now
Trojan defense going to give me a heart attack!!!!! A high school JV football team can score on them
And yet it was USC's unfairly maligned defense that stopped the 2 pt conversion that would have given Cal the winning points. And in USC's worst loss of the season -- the Notre Dame game -- it was USC's horrible OFFENSE that cost them the game; USC's defense was just fine against ND.
@@wingedbuffalo4670well nd offense is pretty mid
That may be, but in truth it's really all about match-ups; the success of ND's offense -- as is true of 95% of all college football teams -- depends largely on who they are matched up against. For example, in games where an offense has a clear-cut speed and/or size advantage (think ND v. Navy for example) the ND offense can light up the scoreboard. In games where the "physical talent" is equalized (think ND v. Ohio State), the ND offense produces fewer points (as is true of the opponent), and the games are much tighter ABSENT the "wildcard" of turnovers. And in games where "physical talent" is relatively equal still, BUT the opposition coughs up "pick-sixes" and fumbles, and/or gives up quick scores on punt and kickoff returns (think ND v. USC and ND v. Pitt), ND will win in a blowout (as will any other competent team) yet the offensive production isn't "that" different between the two teams. That's how it goes for pretty much every team.
The other thing you have to consider is that "today's" football -- at both the PRO and college level -- has undergone a "sea change" from the football of 10/15 years ago (and certainly further back from then) in terms of design, rules, and penalty enforcement that has given offenses a SIGNIFICANT advantage over defenses. The game is now specifically DESIGNED to have wider open offenses and increased scoring where key players can hardly be touched, let alone "punished" physically with big hits ... sometimes turning into "track meets" that can resemble the 2-hand touch "street football" we played as kids with nearly every play being a passing play.
But my initial main point is that USC's defense has been disproportionally criticized compared to its offense. USC lost the ND game "so badly" because of OFFENSIVE TURNOVERS and inconsistent offensive play, NOT because of its defense (which actually played pretty well -- and MUCH better than "predicted" going into the game). Also, that Cal's defense ALSO gave up 50 points -- at home -- yet USC's maligned defense nonetheless stood tall and won that game for the Trojans at the end by stopping the 2-point conversion. @@setalight7290
This has been the most frustrating season to watch as a fan it’s like the defense wants us to lose
Welcome to how Lincoln Reillys team. His best defense is out score them.
Should have read the fine print. Riley has been shitty for years now!! Lol
What defense?! Grinch should have neevrr made the trip to SoCal. This is ultimately Lincoln Riley's fault. Riley could have left him in Oklahoma.
Lincoln Riley Great offense….No defense
Even though USC won CAL still put up a great performance
If they go to overtime I believe Cal wins that loss was solely on the coaching staff
If USC gave up 49 to Cal, how many points are they gonna give up to Oregon? With all the money USC spends, can`t they find better coaches? The win didn`t even feel like a win.
999
Oregon will win 75-21
@@ryanamburgy279175-49 just because usc has Caleb willams
USC should not be in the top 100. Horrible defense. Remember last week when number 90 gets kicked out of the game? What does he do? He goes to the bench and starts crying. What a wuss.
oregons gonna put up less because they will slowdown in the 4th. if they wanted to, they could put up 80+
99 points!
No defense!
Cal running back has the best running form. Looks like he’s not even moving that fast until you look at other players tryna catch him struggling 😂
What a classic game. That was awesome.
Not sure why the coach didn’t just kick a field goal at the end to take them to OT but that’s ok. Live and learn
Well, since they are already gone from playoff contention why not go for it, which is what they did :)
A lot of their rbs were injured. OT would've put them at a disadvantage, so they went for the win with the best chance they had
FG? You mean an extra point?
The quarterback should’ve ran left the lane was completely open trash asf
The 2 fumbles in the 4th doomed Cal. The one on the punt return was especially bad. You're not going anywhere, just go down, don't stumble around waving the ball in the face of tacklers.
Cal has a really good band
California should've tied the game, and went to overtime. They had the momentum. I think California would've won in overtime.
California would've won it in the 4th quarter if not for the no call of the pass interference when California went for the 2 point conversion.
Felt like a loss for the Trojans. Worst USC defense in recent memory. Not one player on the defense strikes any fear into the opposing offense. Washington and/or Oregon may put up 80!
Bo nix and bucky irving will dominate this USC defense. Mark my words
Colorado has the worst defense in the country right now.
That’s my weekly feeling watching the Trojan codify all
Washington and Oregon will score way more than 40 for sure.
But Bear Alexander said USC's defense was as physical as Georgia's.Bwahahahahahahaha
Why does Riley insist on keeping Grinch, there's some kind of blackmail going on
That’s what I’ve been saying this whole time!
if that’s the case then Riley too is a problem.
In the only two games Mendoza played he put up 40 in both games.... kid is looking good. That was a close one, great game.
Instant classic. Cal should have let USC pay for that unsportsy-like conduct by forcing it into OT. Those Golden Bears did good today to hang with USC.
If Alex grinch is still here next season we will have to SERIOUSLY question Lincoln Riley
I questioned him this season. The DC better be gone by next year.
If Alex grinch is still here next week then Riley too is a problem.
SC's defense is small AF
9:10 “he’s not even on the depth chart”😂😂😂😂he ain’t have to say all that tht tho frfr
CAL has a much better Team than their record shows. They really have a lot of great pieces. If they get some major defensive players in the Transfer Portal next year they could be a problem. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 This was a great battle! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I agree. The offense has really come around, so if we can regain our old quality on defense, watch out! We do know that Wilcox is a great defensive coach when he actually has players to work with. The squad is just really inadequate right now.
If Cal had been more aggressive with 2 point conversions they could have won the game Way too timid leaving too many points on the table.
No if they just kicked PAT at the end they could have gone to OT unless Caleb scores with under a minute to do so
The irony of Alex Grinch is he made his name at Washington State, with a legit D at a school normally known for offense. Hes been subpar to bad ever since he left.
Cal self-destructed to lose the game at home. 2 point conversion? Just kick the PAT and go over time. Cal is underdog anyway, so don't overestimate themselves.
USC needs to fire their defensive coordinator now and heavily recruit better defensive players.
It's not the defensive coordinators fault. Lincoln Riley coached teams never play defense.
And fire riley tomorrow!
Bring Prime to SC…
First time seeing the Cal RB. Damm son
49 points to CAL and Lincoln Riley will call that an improvement 😂

I am a USC alumni and I agree with you 100%. Fire Riley now!
Why haven’t USC fired the defensive coordinator???
I’m not gonna lie that last play the defense of player was holding it tight end, fr
why go for 2 instead of the easy 1 and go overtime smh
Analytics lol...
I have no clue

analytics ruining cfb lol
It was a smart move just a bad play call.

A+ for courage
Whoever edited this didn't do a great job. How do you not show the fumbles?
Usc should be unranked
Miracle win that doesn't save the season but may save some face because they really had a chance to go from 6-0 to 6-6 because their next 2 opponents are brutal and UCLA is no slouch either.
Jaydn Ott went fast af!
Match of the week thus far
Absolutely not, just absolutely no defense
The last play brings me back when Seahawks and patriots in the Super Bowl
Hysterical. Trojans barely beat a 3-4 team. Pathetic. Fire Riley now!
Yahoo!
Shame what has happened to that conference.
I’m so excited to see Bucky Irving vs this usc defense😂
I'm not 😂
Lucky it wasn’t holding on the 2 point conversation
"He's not even on the depth chart..." If you've ever wondered if your dead grandmother could score on an Alex Grinch defense, the answer is probably "Yes."
Good Lord, Oregon is gonna drop 70 on us at this point smh. Recruiting defensive players should be a priority for USC this offseason
Yeah recruit a better defensive coach since they’ve never had problems recruiting top players.
USC about to get smacked by Washington and than Oregon in the next two games.
For sure , that weak defense is a liability.
We’ll see that’s why they play the games to see what happens. 😉
Two offensive juggernauts going toe to toe. Great game. Glad USC pulled it out.
Get rid of Grinch
A win s a win..hey remember that homkess guy who walked on,he playeddefense pretty good
@3:49 Nice throw and catch 🎯
QB run off the left would have been wide open.
Sir, you are no Pete Carroll...
I knew Pete Carroll. I coached with Pete Carroll. Sir, you are no Pete Carroll.
Cals coach should apologize to his team cal battled all game overcome the turnovers and had a chance to tie up the game instead he opted for a 2point conversion to win the game but they didn't get it. Horrible decision by the coach cost his team a chance at a win.
the reason was obvious if you watched the game. Jaydn Ott was carrying Cal, gets injured when he landed on his head. USC starts coming back, was pretty obvious if the game went to OT, USC was going to pull ahead. Easy to criticisize in hindsight tho
If they had made it, people would be calling it a great decision. I would call it an obvious decision, given the nature of this game, and given what kind of team Cal is. Cal had 3 timeouts, so still had a chance to get the ball back if they don't convert that, but they had a chance to win it on that play, and I'm certain the analytics say you should go for 2 in that scenario.
@@limittestresearchinstituti5801 but USC would have still had 50 sec to score at least 3 points to put them ahead by 2 so why not tie it and hope that your defensive guys can hold them for OT in hopes that you get the ball first in OT, score and make USC play catch up
@@cnelsonlv99it would have only been a “great decision” had they have been able to hold them on defense for 50 seconds…not to mention a field goal could win it by 2 giving that USC could give their field goal kicker a good position🤔
@@clarencewhite8116 You know those statements are also true if they had kicked the XP.
This highlight reel doesn’t even show all of the turnovers. Just these random plays at the goal line before scores
In NCAA 🏀 & 🏈, Cal is the 🐐 of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory
Not all of the scoring was shown in this highlight video. Why not? We can handle it.

YOOOO ONE PONIT THATS CRAZYYY
The fact that Caleb Williams has to be a savior every week. Is the exact reason we are not going to be in the CFP.
This defense is atrocious.
Why do y’all skip entire drives with your highlights?
quite a game. Caleb took back a little of his luster in this one. Cal's OL just punching holes in the Troy DL. Where was the Bear from Georgia? Did he play much? Had what, 2 penalties in the last game ????
I agree with all the comments about the USC defense and coaching. I’m interested in watching how the year plays out. But come off-season, the scouts need to make moves toward the Midwest and South for bigger, faster, stronger, hungrier, and more disciplined defensive players. Perhaps utilize the transfer portal for guys who view defense with pride and are ready to dominate. This season has been abysmal. I know they’re kids but sheesh. And Grinch needs to go. He’s the root of this defensive genius going on 😅.
Said it before but USC really need to start winning instead of avoid losing.
I was looking to see what happened at half time.
California would've won it in the 4th quarter if not for the no call of the pass interference when California went for the 2 point conversion.
Williams isn't near as good as the broadcast teams make him sound. If you really look at his throws he basically lobs them up it's his receivers that go get them for him.
You all's envy is pathetic.
Who edits this??? 10 minutes, for a 50-49 game, and you showed 1 play, for 40 seconds?! Need to know FB to edit FB. Pretty basic concept...
Welcome to ESPN Replay Mania where the same plays get replayed so many times there's no time left to show you the overall flow of the game. Watch in amazement as Cal scores a touchdown, then, on the very next play shown, they score another touchdown, and then on the very next play after that USC scores a touchdown followed by another touchdown on the very next play after that. We have no idea what happened in between that let them get in position to score all those times, but who cares. It's more important that we get multiple replays of the same plays over and over along with plenty of exciting crowd shots of drunks yelling. Gotta love those shots of drunks yelling. What would highlights be without them?
USC is so bad it's unbelievable, how does Riley have a job?
GG!!
I don't know who does more watching. The fans in the stands or USC's defenders
Banging with a Trojan that doesn't protect will cost you later.
USC nowadays is a 00's era Big XII team, we called it the Nintendo XII for a reason. Ironically, Oklahoma reminds me a little bit of Pete Carroll era USC.
Cal coach made a bad call to go for that 2pt conversion shouldve took the FG

USC has the backs to run a pro style run first offense, they would be way harder to beat imo
SC Can't stop the run. Can't stop the pass. They look lost. Nobody knows what they're doing. These kids are athletes. It's on the coaches 100%.
Are you working on a theory that the USC defense is a liability? You may be on to something. Keep working on it.
Lincoln Riley's philosophy on winning football games is for the offense being the defense as well and outscoring the other team, he doesn't believe in defense

Arizona and Cal didn’t finish the mission. Washington Huskies will have to do it.
What an absolute dumb decision to go for two. Turned a great game into a gamble and lost.
