They are losing at Notre Dame and at Oregon. Like I literally can’t even imagine them winning either of those games. Their defense is an absolute embarrassment. It’s crazy how much of a pass Lincoln Riley has gotten for pretty much allowing that side of the ball to be so putrid for as long as he’s been a head coach at Oklahoma and now here at SC.

The Lincoln Riley experience, as an OU fan I can confidently say that I’m much happier now with Venables going forward. Even though he usually wins games, Lincoln makes these so much more frustrating and exhausting to watch

Everything bad about USC was on full display tonight. The terrible defense that can’t stop a light breeze along with an offense that struggled most of the night to score (though it’s worth noting that Zachariah Branch didn’t play). This team can lose to literally any other top 25 team because of their defense. And by that logic, they’re gonna beat Notre Dame next week because that’s just how this works for some reason.

USC is literally 2016-2019 Oklahoma all over again. Heisman QBs, atrocious defense, almost losing to garbage teams, yet somehow always end up staying in the top-10. Hopefully we don't see them miraculously sneak into the playoffs just to lose 77-17 vs Georgia.

Defense came up with a second half interception in their own red zone. Played like hot garbage the first half. But Arizona is better than people realize. They gave Washington a heart thumper too.
Coach Riley looks like he's gonna waste Caleb Williams' tenure at USC with a sub-standard defensive coordinator who's been exposed as the program's weak link. Just as Riley did with his high powered offenses at Oklahoma. The Trojans can score with anyone, but their defense has proven they are simply not national championship material. I doubt they even win the conference.
Decades ago when Miami was on a roll, Sports Illustrated did an article on their success based on interviews with persons at the school. I'll summarize it. 1. Coaching. Hire a proven winner. It's not time for learning on the job. 2. Offense. Recruit the best quarterback you can find. 3. Recruiting. Recruit speed. The guy who's a bit smaller but a half step faster is preferred. 4. Stress Defense. You should be able to win most of your games scoring 17 points. Apparently, USC isn't hip to point 4.

I just wonder if this was a potential trap game for USC seeing as they go to Norte Dame next week. They pulled out the win but their ranking keeps suffering from all these poor performances.
Or, from another viewpoint, USC is now charged while Notre Dame is dejected, knowing their playoff chances are pretty much over. But that game could be their national championship game, so USC better get their defense corrected, or it could be a problem for them.
I see that game being close; it will probably come down to the final play. But I will also say that the mettle that is tested makes for a tougher team.

Well, I haven't watched US all year, just these highlights. Caleb, didn't see any plays demonstrating NFL skill, just wide open receivers and running, which will get you injured in the NFL. Their team overall sucks. That Wildcat Coleman is a beast.

Agree USC’s defense is not up to par, but did you guys watch the game? USC got in to trouble because the offense couldn’t get going. Credit to Arizona. But I have to scrutinize the play calling. When they’re dropping back 7 defenders in coverage you have got to run the ball. I don’t know why it took that genius Lincoln Riley until the fifth offensive possession to realize that. USC should’ve been pounding Marshawn Lloyd against that look. The defense (and Arizona’s freshman quarterback) let us back in to the game with that terrible out route interception. My other question is what happened to USC’s offensive line? That was a hyped unit coming in to the season and in both this game and the Arizona state game they were incredibly underwhelming against inferior competition. Need to fix that or the goons in these comments are right. I don’t think USC is a playoff team.

Nothing to do with ufcs offensive line and receiver talent vs terrible college defenses and everything to do with Williams. @@aarontsika1519 With 5 minutes left and a tie game instead of running coleman who wasnt stopped all night he passed on 1st down constantly getting fifita sacked and putting them in bad spot multiple times. Didnt have the guts to go for 2 in 2nd OT and win it in 1 play. Chose to shoot it out with a heisman QB instead and to no ones surprised he beat them with his legs. Same story different game with Fisch. Could have beaten washington last week as well. Please keep the excuses coming for Jedd. Almost winning is a losers statistic.

An outstanding QB can cover up some deficiencies on a team and make it a good team. Caleb is doing that. However, it takes outstanding talent across the board on both sides of the ball to cover up for a deficient QB. I agree with a comment in this discussion that if you take Caleb out of USC's lineup, USC isn't even a top 20 team.
Hats off to C-Will. Just a good game for you. It's hard to understand why this school has had such a hard time tackling people since Pete Carroll left. If you're an offensive minded head coach, you go find a top notch defensive mined D-Coordinator. A person that teaches technique and pursuit to the ball and gang tackling. These guys are over pursuing the ball carrier and not breaking down squaring up to make the tackle. Well playing like you just played, you guys better hope in the next 4 games you out score everybody because they just took notes and see that without C-Will you are an average team at best.
