In this exclusive interview on The New Indian with Executive Editor Rohan Dua, film-maker Boney Kapoor makes startling disclosure that keeping salt out in her food daily to look slim was the reason for his wife and superstar Sridevi's death that led to her falling in the bath-tub in a hotel during a trip to Dubai in 2018
He also discloses that actor Nagarjuna told him that she had fallen after black-out earlier that forced her, leading her to wear false teeth on front.
These disclosures mark a fresh twist to her death the reason for which remained a conjecture over several years.
The disclosures by Kapoor also point out to the extra-conscious diet routine that often become stressful for actors over a tight schedule.
Kapoor, in this interview, also shares why he visited the Vaishno Devi shrine at the beginning of his career to pray for the success of his younger brother Anil Kapoor's films.
He also wishes that his daughter Janhvi and his son Arjun, both of are half-siblings to each other, would stay under one roof some day.
He says he misses and remembers his wife Sridevi, who he fondly called Jaan, at a time when his two daughters along his son have forayed into the films while he has begun to fulfil the Tamil actor's dreams of producing regional movies.

What a tragic and heartbreaking way to leave the world. She could have prevented her death and that’s what makes it so sad. Her work ethic to outdo and outshine her contemporaries along with her natural acting gifts which she honed starting at age four made her one of the most beloved and gifted actors of Indian cinema. But this ambitious drive became unhealthy when she became obsessed about her looks and her weight. She didn’t have to make another movie after 1997. She had achieved so much. But English Vinglish opened up a dangerous path for her because as always she was competing against herself to be a leaner more sexier version of herself. She was everywhere- commercials, magazine covers, interviews. This landscape however was different than it was 25 yrs ago- looking young, staying slim, appearing gorgeous became a 24/7 thing for her and she did it through very unhealthy ways. She was lucky that she didn’t pass earlier- she really was playing with her fate. Ultimately the body keeps the score and it couldn’t keep up with her abuse of it. I wish Sridevi knew that there was no way she could outdo herself. It was okay for her to finally keep her feet up and let them stay up. To her fans she would always remain par excellence- but I wonder if she felt that herself.

Even with all resources that they could afford people will tell actress and actors what they want to hear. Also directors/producers have their own approach as to how an actress should maintain their image for the sake of brands. Most actress spend way too much time and energy on things that have nothing to do with craft due to lack of good films. I remember the size 0 and kareena kapoor talks, all that for a crap movie but she had to maintain the image and that size 0 became the trend.

I totally agree with him.. my mother would do the same..she had put on weight n started to avoid dinner to loose weight which she did.. being a diabetic n BP patient one should not skip meal at all especially night meal..she had episodes of sugar going down to dangerous levels where she would almost be in coma n we would immediately come to her rescue.. doctor had warned her low sugar level is way more dangerous than high sugar.. she can go in coma n never come back.. that is exactly what happened.. she slept, her sugar level went down n she passed away in her sleep.. people dont realise how commonly one can die of blackouts related to bp diabetes

Keep saying how good of a human being from the beginning of the interview is ver suspicious. Also having a life insurance where if she only dies in Dubai. They get a payout makes no sense. Actually he is not lying about the diet, one of my distant relative was one of the producers of English Vinglish & he also confirmed after her death that she actually used to eat nothing & almost starve herself on the sets. And actually it’s a v common case of people who pass out & have black outs due to low bp and if one has this in bath tub or pool, one can actually drown due to unconsciousness. But again im not defending him , maybe he has also built a strong story around this to use as a scape goat but actually we never know what is right & wrong. We cannot claim him to be a murderer right away since his explanation is valid.

I am damn sure she was not only on strict diet but she must used to take pills to look young. He is saying truth. The Problem was, She wanted to look like a 20 year old girl which is impossible, we have to grow older. He is a genuine person. He loved her immensely.

MY THEORY:, me and my mother theory is Shridevi killed herself to save her family, they were going through a financial difficulty and she had an insurance which could’ve helped the family to get stable again. Also she knew her daughter is starting movies, she wanted to make sure her Jhanvi is successful in the industry of course as a mother she was worried, she herself was a very established well known amazing actor loved by so many, she wanted to make sure her daughter also get the limelight, the love so she took this step to save the family, to provide them financial stability through her insurance and for Jhanvi as her first movie launch she wanted to make sure she gets the love. When I watched her first movie I was more feeling the emotion that her mother was not there to watch her first movie, a lot of people must’ve felt the same as audience as she has just lost her mother so there was always a soft approach for her… when I watched on Netflix Madhuri series called The Fake Game it felt a little relatable to Shridevi story… she sacrificed herself for her daughter her family
