Cool stuff, just FYI though, ILS does not work via lasers, it's generally considered pretty bad form to fire lasers at aircraft. The ILS system actually works on a series of radio signals. Basically, for the glide slope the ground based system transmits 2 overlapping lobes, one at a slightly higher frequency than the other. The lobes are laid out so one is above the other, with an overlap whose center is right on the proper glide path. The aircraft based system receives both lobes and compares them to each other, if the signal of the higher lobe is of greater intensity than the lower lobe it knows you are above glideslope, and vice versa. The localiser system works pretty much the same, but in the horrizontal plane rather than the vertical.

I think you explained ifr and vfr a bit wrong. You don't switch between ifr and vfr in flight and it has nothing to do with visibility or so. The type of flight/the rules followed in flight are chosen before the flight takes place. For example airliners always fly ifr, no matter the visibility while small aircraft often fly vfr. Vfr flights cant take place in bad visbibility conditions, while ifr flights totally can. Vfr describes navigating using landmarks outside, while ifr describes navigating through the navigating systems in the plane. Anyways great video
Ms should come out with CAPTAIN MODE.. where the goal is to be a captain. Have a feature that unlocks planes based on experience points you get by flying. More airtime means more experience. Close to perfect landing should have a bonus points. Actually a currency to buy the planes instead of unlocking them would be better. Anyhow.. this seems far fetch. We are thankful for having such a beautiful simulator.. sadly I don't think career mode or Captain mode will ever be implemented. This being a simulator sorta kills that idea because the focus is more towards realistic flying more than company management and stuff. Still maybe in flight simulator 2030. We could have career mode built in.
Sure and that's why I was hoping to get some folks to discuss other alternatives. Although once you get into the depth of the virtual airlines I think you might find it's almost a separate game/simulation. A small fee doesn't seem to bad IMO. But everyone is at a different financial point of course.
Fs economy which he mentioned at the start is completely free. You might think its not compatible with 2020 as they haven't updated the description to say it is yet... but it is compatible
This looks pretty cool, I might give the free trial a shot. One question though, if the system relies on live-synced time, does the service support increasing the sim speed during trips? If so, is there any motivation to not do that? Seems like you'd be at a significant disadvantage for not making liberal use of that system when running missions.
It's a self policed system. If you join the higher two servers (Thunder/Stratus) you will be in "warp stasis" until the normal arrival time if you were to have used time compression.
Do the 7 day trial and then check if FSEconomy is back by then. OnAir is a good way to get familiarized with virtual airlines etc. I also think it has one of the better managers software wise and is easy to follow. It'll get you "learned up" a bit in case you move to a different manager later. Also, if you do the tutorial flight, you get a free C172 for your airline to keep! For $15, you get 3 months and then you can figure out if this Flight Manager thing is really for you or not. OR just keep waiting for FSEconomy to open up, that's what happens with a free service, the servers just can't handle the load and there's no money to fix it.
I do agree some warning should have been mentioned that this wasn't free. The prices are pretty low. I may actually test it out and then make a decision. Prices are in Euros at the time I checked. 1 mo = 9/month 3 mo = 5/month 6 mo = 3.50/month 12 mo = 2.92/month
I would love to have tried OnAir Company, but the app/service is horrendous right now; constant DNS issues that seem to appear every time there's an update (or not), which render the app/service inoperable for days at a time.

Looking at how involved the entire thing is in something like FSEconomy or OnAir Company, I could see how that would be a massive undertaking. I just want some humans in my seats if I have them loaded.
@@TobelPlays I think what Mulberry is saying is that just because it might be a massive undertaking is no excuse for Microsoft not to spend the development time and cost to include FSEconomy or OnAir functionality in MFS for free. Of course, by that logic, there's no excuse for Microsoft not to have modeled and included Orcas Island (KORS) in MSF for free, so we don't have to buy it from ORBX. Or when 3rd party companies create a new payware aircraft, I guess Microsoft should include it into MFS so you don't have to pay for a new plane. I don't think he realizes that for something like MFS, it's more important for Microsoft to focus on providing the best simulator engine possible with a healthy supply of base content (which they have), while allowing for 3rd party developers the tools to create and add new content (ie aircraft, airports and scenery, and new game modes).
Like any other product it’s up to every individual to learn what’s in FS and then decide if what’s there is worth $60 before they spend their money! IMO it’s amazing to get an actual flight school with the entire world, weather, and live traffic included for $60
subbed ! I wasn't going to buy MSFS unless I could find some career program to go with it. There were a few for the 2006 version but I could never get them to work. You had to dl the software to a certain file and .. yadda yadda.. This seems fairly straight forward. Thanks !
Here's an idea, just open FS2020, make a flight plan for yourself, pick your aircraft and load it with some fuel. Then pretend, yes, pretend, that you've got some cargo onboard and that you're taking it to your destination. After all, that's what FSeconomy and this Onair manager really is. Difference is, my way is free and saves you an awful lot of money. OnAir Manager looks like a tedious setup every time.

The whole video felt like it was in fast motion. You go too fast sometimes. When you rented the first plane and you had to fly it from where it was to your 'home' airport, Do you just do it in the game as normal ? I mean OnAir doesn't put it there for you or anything right ? There's no interaction like that between the program and the game. Did you even bother flying it there? Why not just start a flight from KORS? Do you have to start a flight from the rentals planes start point in order for OnAir to recognise that it's now at KORS ? Just that moment you did, where you said "I'll just do that and be right back" raises so many questions.
The pricing on it isn't that bad either, especially if you do the 24 month plan. If you do it month to month, it's 9€/month. If you do the 24 month plan, it's 2.38€/month.
@@Superdelphinus and it might here too. The flight sim genre is gouged insanely with costs of aircraft and terrain that normal pc games generally wind up as mods, or fairly cheap DLC. @@InsaneMetalSoldier Yes. Simulators have their place and need to be around. I just don't play them that long. With a career goals in a Sim makes it much more worthwhile for me, for my gaming likes.

From Seattle it's not uncommon for the days to be completely clear up here in the PNW during summer. All other seasons it's pretty much overcast/rain
IFR is just how the flight is conducted. What I think you’re referring to when it comes to visibility is IMC conditions.
Visual Flight Rules. Instrument Flight Rules. VFR. IFR.
IFR means you know how to fly and land without being able to see anything outside of the aircraft, and is required for a commercial license, but not a private one. Private pilots only are allowed to fly VFR when conditions permit, and aren't even supposed to fly into clouds at all...
John Summers thanks man, I know what IFR and VFR is. Private pilots can and do fly IFR if they are rated for it. I know this because my dad is VFR rated and his friend is IFR rated. If you are IFR rated you can make an IFR flight plan, even as a private pilot. IMC conditions is where you can’t see out the window.
John Summers The instrument rating is not required for a commercial pilots license.
This is interesting, but I would like to see a video on a free alternative.
Check out FSEconomy. It's free and awesome.

That's awesome! What got you to that spot? Work/family?
"Vancouver Island" Victoria is my home town. Love flying out of there myself not to be bias tho.
Nothing bias about it. Try living in the flat areas in the middle of the US where all you have to look at is trees. I'd love to go up that way and do some flying some day.
FS Passnger would be great for a comeback with multientertainment more realistic interior sounds when boarding and occasionally adding life to interior cabin during flight
Its nice that third party takes up the job of adding a career mode, but in my opinion it should be part of the in game package.
it's a sim not a game, they give all the tool for 3rd party to do what they want so i dont see the problem with it, they provide a good platform.

Oh no! My geography failed me, sorry Victorians
The lack of any career mode or any missions is absolutely ridiculous. Just a few landings and a whopping 3 bush flights. You'd think after years of development they could've thrown something together, but there's so much about this game that wasn't finished or done properly when it was released.

Great video and enjoyed seeing how "OnAir Company" works. I live on Vancouver Island, not Victoria Island ;-) so it was great to see some of the scenery in the area.
One question, you mentioned you purchased the airport. I don't have the game just yet, but am curious how that works? Is it an in-game purchase or a third party? Can you link where you purchased it from.
It's sold in the marketplace inside of MSFS. It's one of the official DLC hand crafted airports. Price is $12.99 USD.
Saw someone else mention that - crap! I really was convinced it was Victoria Island. You guys gonna let Vancouver take all the fun? As @mountain said, there is an in-game marketplace that ties into Steam wallet. I'm not super impressed honestly with the airport I bought, but for much larger airports I might be. I think it lets many of the more popular third-party folks drop products out there. I want my super mega high-res pack.
Vancouver Island was where some of the "ALONE" shows were film.. beautiful but not very forgiving.
Iv been saying fx2020 needs game play, not just open world flying around. I wish they had a career mode built in game. This should have been part of the game.
Agree agree. But I think these programs fill the niche pretty well. It'd be a pretty large investment if they tried, they've probably just accepted that there are a bunch of plugins that fit the bill.
@@TobelPlays yeah they do but theyre a big enough company they could have made it so much better. not saying its bad but you know

FS Economy is free
@@aedryk 41 bucks for a years worth of this is outrageous? a year sub to almost any other game is usually in the ballpark of 90-100, and if its cheaper theres usually alternative pay models where you pay for content and a lower sub cost. 41 bucks for this much content, and depth? and thats outrageous for you? go work a few hours of overtime or mow a lawn or two, the game cost more
@@SlackinPanda if it was a one time fee, i could see getting it as an DLC or Addon but not as a yearly fee. still early at this stage too but its nice to see this around, but then again this should have been a feature.

Quite true, although I thought you could transition to IFR midflight if the conditions suddenly shifted.
@@TobelPlays Could certainly be true, I don't know
Ms should come out with CAPTAIN MODE.. where the goal is to be a captain.
OnAir is quite expensive for what it is though
Sure and that's why I was hoping to get some folks to discuss other alternatives. Although once you get into the depth of the virtual airlines I think you might find it's almost a separate game/simulation. A small fee doesn't seem to bad IMO. But everyone is at a different financial point of course.
@@TobelPlays oh I completely agree, I wouldnt expect something like this for free. I thought it would have been a 1 off payment rather than a sub
Fs economy which he mentioned at the start is completely free. You might think its not compatible with 2020 as they haven't updated the description to say it is yet... but it is compatible
And it is even an subscription! It is one Huge No No! When I start flying I will stick with FS economy.
$30 per year isn't expensive.
THANK YOU! I was looking for this!
Already love it
I do agree some warning should have been mentioned that this wasn't free. The prices are pretty low. I may actually test it out and then make a decision. Prices are in Euros at the time I checked.
1 mo = 9/month
3 mo = 5/month
6 mo = 3.50/month
12 mo = 2.92/month
Apologies for that. I mentioned some have costs while others are free and thought that was enough.
Hmmm, seems like a project that can be done in C#. Would be fun to make something like this to sharpen my programming skills.
I would love to have tried OnAir Company, but the app/service is horrendous right now; constant DNS issues that seem to appear every time there's an update (or not), which render the app/service inoperable for days at a time.
This might explain why i'm not getting a confirmation email for registering, MSFS has really done a number on all of these services.

Microsoft should build a career mode in their game #sadface
Looking at how involved the entire thing is in something like FSEconomy or OnAir Company, I could see how that would be a massive undertaking. I just want some humans in my seats if I have them loaded.
@@TobelPlays so what they should do that, its part of the game - stop making excuses for them
@@Mulberry2000 What?
IMO it’s amazing to get an actual flight school with the entire world, weather, and live traffic included for $60
If you go through the tutorial you'll get a plane to start with

IFR is based on flight visibility and cloud ceilings but each airspace has different minimum requirements for when you need to file an ifr flight plan

I wish they just built this into MS flight simulator, like you can in Euro Truck simulator, i'd like to make deliveries through my air line... A separate program doesnt create any progression
Yes, you have to fly your airport from the starting spot to the home airport initially.
The pricing on it isn't that bad either, especially if you do the 24 month plan. If you do it month to month, it's 9€/month. If you do the 24 month plan, it's 2.38€/month.
shadowtheimpure this sort of app would most likely be free, or about 10% of the price, in any other genre other than flight sims though.
@@Superdelphinus and it might here too. The flight sim genre is gouged insanely with costs of aircraft and terrain that normal pc games generally wind up as mods, or fairly cheap DLC.
