I already thought that the iron rod would break and fall)). A good knife for not much money, which can be sharpened on the first-best stone and back to work. Thanks for the tests, JoeX! Cheers!
Its my stupid car camp beater. I also like throwing it. I've dulled the tip twice but just reprofiled it back. They can be found on ebay between 30-50 bones depending on condition, year color etc. if you can get it around 40 or less its def worth it.
Joe X, it just came to my mind, would it be handy if you used a metal pipe as an extra lever when bending knives? It would lead to more controlled stress on the blade and would be more safe to you. I don't think it would hurt your "way of doing things" too much either. Totally up to you, just wanted to point out it would help with tougher blades :)
Joe hammers on the Golf and the birds sing ... what an idyllic atmosphere! 😉🍻 Awesome comparison test of an Austrian high quality legend, bro! It was a lot of fun to watch as always! 🍻 I am a proud German Austrian FM 78 legend owner, hell yeah! P.S. You forgot to show the hidden gadget for beer lovers, amigo! 😂🍻
Joe, I salute you. I think you're one of the strongest knife destroyers in the world. Joe, you look like a thug from the big road, but I'm sure that inside you are a very well-mannered and hard-working man.
Great test Joe! Your test proves that there really is no difference between the civilian and military version of the 78. Both knives performed amazing and are proof that a survival knife can really be made to be nearly indestructible. The Glock 78 is probably the ultimate survival knife.
Hi joe, I have a question for you about this knives from glock, what different they have? They look like the same(not colour handle), they have a different steel or construction? I can't find informations about versions beacuse everywhere is writing the glock has two versions, normal and in other colours and with saw but both verisions are military because this is military knife. Please answer me, because I have glock fm78 but I didn't know about civil version. Great test
I can definitely see your point, but should the knife ever be forced into a combat role, it’s penetrating ability would be hampered by the saw blades especially considering the individual saw blades are ‘facing’ forward. I’ve seen some surprising results of knives being thrust into ballistic gelatin and it’s clear that thin double edged knives penetrate far better, followed by thin single blade knives. Knives with saw blades on them were hampered in penetration by the saw blades themselves. Serrations, however, didn’t affect penetration. If this knife was used strictly as a field knife, then the one with the saw blades would have minor added functionality but if this knife was being used as a military/ combat knife, the version without saw blades would be greatly better.
I most like 81fm, because of it's saw, but anyway those feldmessers are amazing. I love the option to take it everywhere with the training pants. Absolutely great bayonet. Is it real to put it on the assault rifles which made in Austria? But its great to listen to Mozart with Glock on the belt! 30 min video it means VERY GOOD QUALITY! See you! Sorry for the comments - sometimes I just forget to write. But ❤is the necessary from me!😊
Amazing content and review. Discovered your channel thanks to a good friend of mine after he sent me your video review about the Glock 81. Was waiting to see the test of the 78th since it was an option to be bought too but I've chosen the 81th. Gonna test it in the mountains this weekend (of course not so hard like you 😂). By reading on internet the 78/81 should be some good throwers too thanks to resilient steel and some kind of balance. Imho on the paper a versatile knife and tool, just have to learn how to maintain it since it my first carbon steel knife. Keep up the great work and content man 🤙🏻

I'm looking for a good survival knife Joe X! What is the best 6" to 7" survival knife to get that is no more than $200??? TIA. Thanks for what you do and sharing videos, it's appreciated!
Hello, I have been watching your reviews of knives from various manufacturers for a long time. I am from Poland, where quite a lot of knives made from scratch in small workshops have recently started to appear. Most of them can compete on par with the big brands. I can send you something to look at. Regards
There's a Polish military knife called the wz 98 which actually looks somewhat like a Glock knife. It's excellent. Might be even tougher than the Glock.
Joe could you "test" 😉 Eafengrow knives by any chance ? chinese made with DC53 steel that are getting popular and i think good value for the money but nothing equals your tests my friend !
Great for getting mud out of tank tracks. Pretty soft so the edge doesn't last long. Actually a bit of pain as they need sharpening all the time. Cheap, tough, pointy, so plenty to love. Just don't buy one as a fine, long lasting, cutting tool.
Joe, i bet you could xray your wooden tip test stump and see a constellation of knife tips and shards. If i had to guess what kind of musician you are i am certain you are a percussionist. Thanks for your educational and entertaining videos.
Why would you say that? Both knives performed almost identically in the test. The small variation in break time at the pole is just that- a variation. Had the civilian broken after 1 minute and the military at 10 mins then yes, that would be significant. But not less than a minute difference.
Greetings Dear warrior. Could you someday test my favorite knife? The Prather War Bowie. Thank you very much for your revealing videos!! "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Curtain rods. Lousy steel, too soft. Bayonet style blade/steel. I found the tip bending way too easy. And I had many tested. Handle too slick and too round also, in hammer grip the hand slides up against the guard. In icepick grip it's better.
Blondes or brunetes make's no diference if you are willing to put in the work :) Great job Joe, as allways!!! You are the best!!! 👏💪👏 The ladyboy stay the same?!! 😂😂😂
I had that feeling also for many years. Love hate. Now I got rid of the Glock's I had. It's a bayonet type of blade mainly. Disliked the edge/steel, the handle (nearly round + slick) too much in the end. The tip bent really easy. Soft steel.
Hey Joe X. My girlfriend asked me about the length of Glock 78 and i told her it was modeled after the average length in the Austrian Bundesheer. Would this be correct? 🍆 Including the handle of course. 😎
Ugly as sin, for 75 bucks is on the expensive side for a rubber knife, for that money I would definitely get the Fiskars hatchet 🪓 This Glock knife isn’t my first choice, but a good alternative to a more expensive Ka-Garbage.Thanks Joe keep them coming. Vaya con Dios amigo.
Good all around testing. I always prefer a knife to bend rather than snap, even if it means sharpening more often. Thanks again Joe.

Looks like there is little differences from either one. Both are good knives.👍
they are, i think the military is stronger"
Iron rod is the master this time. Great testing I have a civilian Glock and it works fine for me. Many thanks for your review. Awesome.

as my video proofes, theay are nearly the same!
In America, it’s hard to come by the Model 78. We have tons of the Model 81 available, but that ‘root saw’ is goofy.
78 is better!
Amen to that! Love my 78 🍻
I disagree. The “saw” has lots of different not-so-obvious ways it can be used, but I don’t think its as strong overall, toss up I guess.

exactly!

Does anybody know where to purchase the 78? I can't find it anywhere. I live in US.

Aren't these originally designed as bayonets for the AUG? That's why the blade is so tough and bendy so it can handle lateral pressure.
