    Limit 1 just exacerbated Yugioh's going 1st advantage problem, imo.
    The player going first still gets to build a full board most of the time because there's so many one card combos and the going second player gets even more boned because all the disruption/hand traps are limited and you're unlikely to open many or any at all so the going first player gets to full combo even more often.

    • @xCorvus7x
      @xCorvus7x Месяц назад

      I don't think so.
      The player going first is significantly more likely to brick or build a weaker board, while the sixth card noticably improves your chances to see engine.
      Snake-Eyes in this evend had to include at least one more OSS-compatible engine to have a viable deck at all (probably Rescue-ACE in most cases _edit: and Limit 1 Rescue-ACE is rather bricky_ ).
      However, there are so many handtraps that even with all at one you _can_ play a number of them that matters.

      Skull Meister, Retaliating „C“, Contact „C“, the PSY-Frames Delta & Epsilon, sometimes Chaos Hunter, Lancea, Phantazmay, and D.D. Shifter, and maybe also Ghost Reaper are another bunch onto which you can fall back.
      Then there's the Bystials and other cards that double as engine and interruption such as the Labrynth furnitures and Arias, and Havnis.

      You could limit or ban all the currently popular hand traps and STILL have a ton of things to work with. People are just good at coping with complacency, to the point where they don't even LOOK for answers to problem cards that have likely existed for DECADES at this point. Consistency hits can be great in grind game scenarios and can limit over extension (from non opt cards and less access to hit extenders)

    The "consistency hits do nothing" take is just weird to me. In a normal game, limiting the best starter or extender means that you're way more likely to open cards that stop those cards vs. the opponent that only has one of them. In Limit 1 that dynamic is neutralized so of course one-card combos are going to be king.

    • @xCorvus7x
      @xCorvus7x Месяц назад

      I agree except for the last part: in Limit 1, one-card combos are not the strongest by that much. There are a lot of handtraps in the game and Branded (a deck running on a lot of engine) was probably closer to Snake-Eye's power in Limit 1 than under the regular banlist.
      Besides, part of what makes Snake-Eyes so strong is their almost free follow-up that allows them to do the same combo they started with again and then some.

    Counterpoint: Consistency hits make sense in a world where the best deck(s) isn't just 50% one-card starters and 50% hand traps. That's a Snake-Eye problem, not a consistency hit problem.
    It would be more accurate to say that consistency hits are ass in the context of Snake-Eye specifically, but they do make sense for "normal" decks, lowering the average ceiling while keeping the deck "playable".

    • @solobugg5087
      @solobugg5087 Месяц назад +1

      Snake-Eye isn't the only deck to have 1 card combos and be able to play a lot of hand traps.
      Consistency hits also don't lower the ceiling of decks whatsoever. They just reduce the frequency of those decks being able to reach that ceiling every game, meaning games can feel more sacky.
      Limits and semi-limits are good when decks play multiple copies of a card for reasons other than consistency, like Runick Fountain or Malicious, but Snake-Eye doesn't really have a card like that (maybe Poplar?), so the deck is trickier to hit without either banning cards or making consistency hits. I think that's more of the Snake Eye problem.

    • @xCorvus7x
      @xCorvus7x Месяц назад +1

      @@solobugg5087 So-called consistency hits do often also hit a deck's ceiling (which should account for the grindgame a deck can put up) and the way they affect a deck's consistency is as layered as the respective hits are diverse, since you may not just be significantly less likely to draw the best starter but also to draw valuable extenders.
      Snake-Eye, however, is very much a deck that plays every card for more than just consistency reasons because additional copies of the Level 1s constitute the follow-up (which is part of what makes the deck so strong) and the second Flamberge matters a lot for the deck's resilience to handtraps.
      The resilience to boardbreakers also depends on additional copies of each card.

    • @solobugg5087
      @solobugg5087 Месяц назад +1

      @@xCorvus7x A deck may be significantly less likely to draw their best starter, but when they do draw it, they execute the same exact combo as if their best starter wasn't limited (assuming no other hits), meaning a consistency hit did virtually nothing that game. If you limit/semi-limit a card to cut off a deck's potential grind game, then that no longer makes it a consistency hit, because you're accounting for other factors that aren't just altering probabilities.
      From my personal understanding, the way Snake-Eye plays through multiple disruption is not by having multiple copies of a specific card in hand, but having a copy of as many different cards in hand (Bonfire, Wanted, Diabellestar, OSS, One for One), all of which function perfectly fine without needing more copies of themselves in the deck. They just play more for consistency reasons.
      Flamberge was the other card I was thinking that you could potentially limit that hits the deck without being either a ban or a consistency hit, and if limiting Snake-Eye Ash significantly hurts the deck because it means you can't search another copy of itself for follow-up, then I'm willing to be wrong there, but considering how much advantage they incur during the opponent's turn anyways, I don't know if it really matters.

    • @xCorvus7x
      @xCorvus7x Месяц назад

      @@solobugg5087 A consistency hit doesn't seem to do anything in the few games where the same starter was opened nonetheless but it does matter how frequently such games happen.
      Besides, if not just the starter is semi- or limited but also other engine pieces, the opponent's handtraps become a lot more impactful and playing against the deck actually feels different.
      When speaking of the grindgame I only meant that the ceiling of a deck should not be just how strong the endboard is that it can possibly produce but that the grindgame it can put up should also factor into that.
      One could say that the strength of an endboard can be manifested in a single turn where the opponent either breaks through and wins or doesn't and loses, or over several turns that your opponent has to struggle to break through.
      When speaking of Snake-Eye's resilience to handtraps, I only meant that Flamberge at more than one contributes to it significantly since you can set one copy in the backrow with the Temple and summon the other from the deck with Ash or Oak.
      Regarding boardbreakers I was mostly thinking of Evenly Matched, since it matters whether limited engine pieces are banished face-down.
      Aside from maybe limiting Flamberge, I don't think it's any single semi-/limit that weakens the deck significantly but the total mass of all cards being limited (as in this Master Duel event).
      Now they cannot just repeat their turn one combo on any consecutive turn but have to pivot into another strategy which centres around a Level 1 Fire monster, so their deck is diluted.
      That works both ways, to some extent: on one hand, they don't just have fewer engine pieces but also have to run cards that don't help them find the few engine pieces they do have (that is what people did with Tearlaments: fill up your deck with more ways to mill) since those cards belong to a different strategy; on the other hand, that other strategy will likely not be set up as much as it would be if they had not expended their resources on the Snake-Eye plays, so if you break through the Snake-Eye endboard they put up, the board set up with the rest of their deck is somewhat weaker than it would be, had that second strategy been more of the focus of the deck.

Snake-Eyes can still just build their same stupid board going first, but always manage to auto-lose when going second, making them an overrated pick for this kind of nonsense(but since it wasn't ranked and there's barely any penalty for losing people did it anyway out of lack of adaptability).

    *Beats them anyways*
    Despite how crazy their field can get, if you can beat it, then it's not as oppressive as you make it out to be. The game will powercreep to a point where you will always have an out to any degenerate board. So I don't see a problem with consistency and one card combos. As long as there are more banlist hits to omninegates or floodgates that lock your opponent's plays, the game will stay interactive.

      @kenja0685 Месяц назад

      @@AndrianaboN Let's put that idea in reverse. A lot of Rogue decks have some very strong and powerful combo lines, with some boards being extremely degenerate or more powerful than what meta decks are capable of. But one of the major aspects holding them back is consistency from accessing those combo lines due to the lack of the number of cards that contribute to that gameplan and how many extensions they have to get there when they get interupted Those decks are just extremely inconsistent and require the stars to align to hit those combos. If those decks became more consistent and obtain particular support that pushes their gameplan further, especially through interuptions, chances are those decks can see meta relevant play.
      Other than powercreep, a lot of decks see hits to their consistency and lose meta relevance when the rate of consistency hits below the acceptable threshold to play the game against the unhit meta.
      Only when a card truly sucks all of their air out of the room, does Konami see fit to ban a card in the case of something like Ariseheart.
