Another Italian I think is worthy of a video is of the late Marco Simoncelli. Although his life was cut tragically short at the age of just 24, he is still fondly remembered for his flamboyance on and off the track (he had very long hair for example) and his incredible talent at the controls of MotoGP machinery. He was always spectacular to watch, racing his rivals as hard as Robert Kubica and Felipe Massa did for 6th place at the 2007 Japanese Grand Prix, or Gilles Villeneuve and Rene Arnoux did for second place in France 1979. He won lower category races and titles and with his first Poles in MotoGP in 2011, he looked to be a rider on the rise, especially after what turned out to be (officially) his last race, at Phillip Island, Australia, where he finished 2nd (his best career race finish in MotoGP) behind only the eventual champion that year, Casey Stoner. But on 23rd October 2011, just 1 week after Dan Wheldon was killed at the Indycar Finale in Las Vegas, tragedy struck. On lap 2 of the scheduled 13 lap race at Sepang, Malaysia, Simoncelli was running in 4th place as he approached turn 11, but the front wheel momentarily lost contact with the track surface, causing him and his bike to slide wide. As he tried to regain control, his bike then came back across the track, most riders missed him, but Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards weren't so lucky. Rossi and Edwards both ran over Simoncelli, ripping off the latter's helmet and leaving the young Italian sprawled on the track surface between turns 11 and 12. And so he would once again drop well out of the points. Frustratingly Sauber, to this day, continue to struggle with pitstops. At least Gio tasted glory at Le Mans now.
Yeah I can relate; as an Italian watching the strategies and pit stops they made for him was pain. Like everybody talks about Singapore but he was leading just because they made him stay out way too much hoping for a Safety Car (which eventually came out, just 2 laps after he pitted), they nearly wasted a good point finish. I think he finally ended 9th or 10th by making a great comeback in the last laps. In the end it was a combination of his own inconsistency, very bad strategies and luck and lack of sponsor's money or hype to put him out of F1.

he just needs a hulkenback moment
He didnt had THAT spark in open formula. He found his place in endurance.
Half expected your next video to be a passion piece about Liam Lawson 😂😂😂
I’m sure that will come!
The Italian Jesus. Quality video as usual ❤
Can't wait for: WTF happened to Nicholas Latifi
Hey Josh. I can recall that you've once nicknamed him "Italian Jesus" a couple of times time.
being italian i was really rooting for him, sadly he didn't get another chance after his 3 years with sauber, glad he could show his talent and win le mans
2:56 oh it been a while since we had this and it’s been missed hehe 😂
Gio has been serving Kimi's kids with the best pizza in the world and it is highly possible his behind Robin's Raikkonens ultimate speed and talent in karting.
The funniest interaction between kimi and Tonio was when kimi drove him around the Nordschleife 😂
Thanks to Sean Galer, Italian Jesus won 24 hours Le Mans
I got the biggest smile on my face during the Sean Galael meme, it never gets old, it just doesn't.
2:53 you have no idea how long i've waited for Josh to say this again... 🤣
Well, he raced in F1 for 3 years as Kimi's team mate - and that is saying something -, and is a 24Hours race winner (very hard to achieve). He is very talented (handsome too..;).
Had the pleasure of watching him race in WEC in Brazil this year
He won the 2023 Le Man and stood on the podium in 2024 with Ferrari... that's quite an achievement even many F1 drivers would envy...
Man... I remember when Formula E came to Jakarta a lot fans were waiting for Gio.
In F1 Gio was at best inoffensive. I don't mean that in a bad way. He was a nice guy, who had moments to shine.
The problem was he didn't consistently outshine the car.
He won LeMans.....
It blows my mind that he carried a King Taco sponsorship - can we get a deep dive on why an LA taco shop is so active in motorsport?
He became Jesus. Crucified by F1. Resurrected by Le Mans.
I have to say I always loved the Alfa Livery from 2018-2021. In even bought F1 merch the first time, Antonios and Kimis. Shame the car couldnt deliver anything substancily
he is a superstar in WEC - I went to Spa and Giovinazzi was the main attraction; I think that's a good option
I must admit that I completely forgot about him.
I love your videos... They are part of the inspiration that led me to start my channel... Any advice for a small creator in the formula 1 niche? That loves the sport?
"You look back upon some of these grids, and you just have to appreciate the tale-" *_RAGHUNATHAN_* "...okay, never mind." 🤣
Ah now, winning Le Mans for Ferrari isn't exactly "nothingness", Josh... nice tribute, well done. Always liked the guy. 👍
He's racing for me alongside Mick in the relaunched Benetton Renault team in F1 Manager 24 😂
What happened to Marcus Ericsson? He won the Indy 500
What Happened to Antonio Giovinazzi? He won the 24H of Le Mans
What Happened to Charles Leclerc? He is watching race footage, still trying to figure out Ferrari's Strategy.
he tested with Haas for 2023 but he crashed like out of the pit box and the seat was given to Hulkemberg.
Sometimes things happen for a reason, and to be honest, I think he is far more happy being a Le Mans winner than trundling around in the midfield for a hopeless team.
12:25 Gio had led more laps in Singapore than verstappen in his whole career ;)
I'm a fan of the fact that Giovanazzi was a great driver.
Poor Italian Jesus.
WEC is such an incredible series so for me a wec champion is just as big as f1 champion. ALOT more can go wrong over 6, 8 12 24hrs then can over a 2hr f1 race and the field is considerably tighter
The Italian Jesus 😂
Motorsport is brutal, without considering Josh Revell or Rocket Powered Motorsport 😂😂
Love your work mate, the honesty of all your vids is never lost on me, always been absolutely bang on.
Some of these guys just never really had it but found a way, yet others that can bloody steer never get close. It’s a funny old game Motorsport, so many good drivers run out of money, not talent, but Italian Jesus was the opposite.
I literally remembered about him in the morning and wondered what he's doing now
2021, Jeddah, zandvoort,Monza were incredible and also Mexico, Turkey and maybe cota were ruined by strategy
12:10 was incredible
I remember this man had one year in formula e
Hey Josh, I'm from Indonesia. And so a video on Sean Gelael would be much appreciated 😊😊
Josh has done one a while ago
Look back at his vids and you will find it
Wdym he went and won lemans and then took a 2nd place this year hes doing great in wec
i really liked Gio, was damn sad to see him go from f1... kinda happy for him tho, he can now enjoy sports that are arguably better lmao
