WTF Happened to Ricardo Rosset?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 авг 2024
- Ricardo Rosset is notorious when it comes to Formula 1, with an unfortunate nickname to accompany the fact. Is this justified though? Was he as bad people claim he was? Or was he perhaps better than what his stint in Formula 1 led us to believe?

“A full lap behind team mate Verstappen”
*nervous Gasly noices*
If you are one lap behind Max, you might not be very good.
But if you are one lap behind Jos, than you probably shouldn’t be a F1 driver.
黃日恆 his first season was good but he was unlucky after that he just raced in shit cars
@@wessel8821 his first season was grey. Brendon hartley may be an lmp champion but sure as hell he's not good at formula car judging by his average junior career and poor pace in f1. Toro rosso should've kept sainz in 2018 to really get a clear picture of how good gasly was.
@@user-ri3is5jr7y You are underestimating Jos, he was a very talented driver. If he could have stayed a testdriver in 1994, instead of having to take JJ Lehto's seat. I really believe he would have had a very different career. Still, I personally loved every single race he was in, and going to Spa to see him race in 1994 was an absolute highlight.
I don't remember Rosset being great but I certainly don't remember him being quite as bad as this. Dear me.
No clue Christian Horner had a racing career 😂
So did Zak Brown. If you can imagine that, lol
So did Helmut Marko (former F1 driver for BRM) and Toto Wolff
He did race in F3000 and ran what is essentially his own team
Federal Bureau of Investigation 😂😂😂
Ricky Red Helmut Marko I think had like 9 races starts in F1
Fun Fact: He didn't qualify for the 1998 Japanese Grand Prix because he ignored the team and went to ride the Roller Coaster next to the track. He injured his neck and when he got in the car he couldn't cope with the G's he'd sustain. The team just said he injured his neck because they didn't want to be embarrassed.
"After running around in karts, achieving nothing worthy of being submitted to Wikipedia..."
Why you gotta be inflicting clinical burns like that?
I mean, he achieved nothing special either in Stock Cars Brasil
@@jackietang3789 Even though he won the Porsche Carrera Cup Brasil, three times
William's stupidity in 97 firing Damin Hill Is almost as dumb as Ferrari's current "internal politics"
is ferrari’s career over????!!!
Williams has a habit of firing good personnel
My conspiracy theory is that Bernie Ecclestone made them do it so Villeneuve could win the championship. Bernie brought Villeneuve to F1 to attract American viewers (who knew him from Indy) and it's obvious that having him win the championship would increase American attention. 1996 proved that Villeneuve wasn't good enough to beat Hill, so Hill had to go. But it's just a theory.
Yeah pretty Brutal story. Apparently Frank and Patrick pulled Damon into an office and said win or lose the Championship you won't be racing here next year. I remember Webber in his book saying that after his first year of a two year deal at Williams they pulled him in to have the same chat but said that seeing as they couldn't see a way out of releasing him from his (Flavio drafted) contract. They told him to the effect that they wanted him out but were stuck with him for another year. Not the the way to get the best out of people...
Didn't they want to prove it was the car not the drivers that was getting the results?
I’ve been waiting for one of these videos for ages
Ino same nice channel btw
Roberto Moreno? I’d love to see a wtf happened on him
He went on to almost becoming CART champion in 2000, one of the most under-rated drivers ever.
His problem was that during the 80/90 there was so many good Brazilian drivers both in Indycar and in F1 that he had almost no funding. Always driving for small teams. Quallyfing the 92Andrea Moda in Monaco was almost impossible, he did it.
Moreno deserved better, he proved to be a very good driver, just got the worst equipment and when he got into benetton, he got a podium.
In CART he was really good also, i just think that he was at the wrong teams at the wrong time, after all, he qualified a Andrea Moda Car.
Aidan Millward wants to know your location
@@nagisayoshikawa what?
Hahahaha Moreno appears in at least 5 videos in Aiden's channel
He was a good driver, that drove terrible cars
11:20 would've been good to mention Jerez 1997 aswell - everybody remembers the three-way tie for pole, nobody remembers that Damon was fourth - 0.058 seconds behind in an Arrows-Yamaha!
14:03 Holy shit Josh, thank you for including this. Now I can finally know what one of Jimmy Blondebent's donation sounds actually is.
Please no punterino Jimmer

I'm sorry
We've been waiting for the Tosser
All we need now is a V2 video on Andrea Moda
I hope we get one for Life as well, to complete the Unholy Trinity of bad F1 teams
Ah, I see what you did there...
Clever.
Lokço Adventure not really, it’s what his mechanics changed his pit box name too at the end of the season. You can read about it anywhere.
this aged well.
He was always my "favorite" driver.
Always thrilling to see, if he'd pass the 107% rule in qualifying.
Christian Horner had a racing career? Damn, how did he do?
As per the video... not very well. He spent two seasons in Formula 3000 with a team he founded himself, scored a grand total of 1 point and 8 DNQs, then realised he wasn't particularly good and retired from driving to focus on his management career.
Shit
If you pay any attention to F1 feeder series, you may have heard of Arden International. That's Christian and Garry Horner's team. They raced in F3000/GP2/F2 until 2019, plus GP3, Formula Renault, F4 and their equivalents.
Dan Tiktum, Jack Aitken, Anthoine Hubert (RIP), Maximillian Gunther, Edo Mortara, Da Costa, Mitch Evans, Sainz Jr, Kvyat, Buemi, Perez, Alexander Rossi (Indy 500 winner), Bruno Senna, Kovalainen, Liuzzi, all Arden alumni.
Oh, and Jolyon Palmer.
Emyr Derfel It’s kind of a funny thing for Sainz Jr. and Kvyat considering they both ran in Red Bull’s sister team Scuderia Toro Rosso (Former name, now Scuderia AlphaTauri), although Kvyat did have a stint in RBR before he did get kicked down into STR.

Here in Brasil everybody just forget Ricardo Rosset existense.
Eu n esqueci. Eu nem sabia que ele existia
I feel sorry for the guy, I tend to know folks from this neck of the woods who really don't do well at all but even I was drawing blanks when I saw the name of the video.
Ricardo who?
Rosset is one of the owners of clothes brand Track & Field
@@thlemos Never ever seen that brand around here, to be honest.
There are a lot of bad F1 pay drivers back in the 1990s but when we are going to talk about bad pay drivers in the 2000s like Alex Yoong?
Gaston Mazzacane as well. Makes Rosset's resume look great :s
@@meodreadgaming4084 Mazzacane wasn't even that bad, meaning what he lacked in pace (Qualifying in particular), got nullified by reliability,, his only dnf's were mechanical retirements. And for teams like Minardi saving on repairs was a relevant matter. For Prost too probably, but the French team knowed that they needed someone faster to capitalize occasions for points, so they fired him after 4 races for Burti, contract specifically stated that they had rights to do it if Mazzacane would not deliver results. The guy simply didn't have the talent, just an huge smile, and passion (I remember a race under rain when he had a scuffle with Hakkinen and was third in one moment of the race, and got a mechanical failure as a result of his efforts). And obviously a good and loaded wallet. F1 has seen better, yeah, but also worse.
It’s been documented Alex Yoong’s right foot was so large it slightly pressed on the brake pedal whenever he was in the cramped confines of the Minardi
I'd say 2000s pay drivers will fare better than 1990s pay drivers
@@meodreadgaming4084 Mazzacane wasn't too bad. Nothing amazing by all means, but he had such a terrible car and every single retirement he had was mechanical. If you ask me, he was an ok driver.
I remember my Dads mate called Dad "Rosset" after he had a crash in his new car.
This was brilliant! I grew up with Rosset in the late 90's and ALWAYS watched him crash out in F1... as Josh said he was purely unlucky but his attitude didn't exactly win his team over. #Longlivethetosser
"Wtf Happened To..." is one thing I always look forward to. Keep doing what you're doing!
14:02 Oh hi Japanese Murray.
“Verstæpen”
Hæhæ good joke

When will that Scott Speed video come?
I think Josh probably needs to take a breath as I understand his Vids take days and days of work to produce but I’m also sure Speed is on his radar in the not to distant future
Scott Speed is fairly famous here in the states, but not for his Formula 1 career. He competed in 118 NASCAR races from 2008 to 2013, where he only managed one top 5 and four top 10s. Keep in mind that he spent 76 of those races from 2008-2010 with the Red Bull Racing team, which was by no means a top tier NASCAR team, but was relatively competitive and was able to garner a handful of wins in their short lifespan from 2007-2011. His one top 5 came at Richmond International Raceway in 2009, where he magically got a runner-up finish. From 2012-2013, he'd run 29 races with Leavine Family Racing and a couple other backmarker teams. In that timespan, his only statistic was a singular top 10 at Talladega in 2013. While he did find some success in NASCAR's lower series, including 4 wins in the ARCA Menards series and one win in the Gander Outdoors truck series, he was most known for being the worst driver on Red Bull's NASCAR team who had no trouble finding his way to the outside wall.
@@JohnSmith-mk5jt: Don't forget about his X Games appearances in Rallycross.
Still can't believe a guy named Scott Speed made it into F1. Not even Driven had driver names that on the nose.
@@boheyo and NASCAR had a driver, Dick Trickle... who'd thought?🤔😁
I remember in Barcelona 1998, Rosset had a run in with Giancarlo Fisichella. Martin Brundle commented on his in that as well,
"well Rosset getting in the way and Fisichella is saying to him, 'why didn't you move out of my way?' But what Fisichella doesn't realise is that Rosset was on a qualifying lap of his own and that has spoiled both their laps,"
Oof, that greek economy joke was unexpected but well worth it.
Greetings from Greece mate!
A video on "Who is Jehan Daruvala" would be a godsend, please do it!
Parsi bias much?
So worth the wait man... Josh your videos are another level
16:18 Man, I remember that muppet only because Villeneuve was bloody furious after the incident and he basically got our entire province detesting Rosset. That is the full extent of my knowledge of Rosset's entire career prior to watching this video! LOL
haha
14:02 so that’s where that Jimmy Broadbent soundbite came from
The editing and animations on these is *on point* !!!
Sick videos as always hope you continue a bit more regularely .
More of these! Please and thank you!
My favorite part of this series is Josh is tirelessly answering the questions literally no one on planet earth is asking 😂
6:40 that’s my mate’s second cousin and a man that deserved to win the championship in 1982
He had the chance, Mclaren car was good, but he didn't perform in the last third of the championship..... So to say he deserved it, is a little bit polemic
@James Bond my brother's mom's aunt's cousin's 4th cousin's dog's cat's biology teacher's 7th cousin overseas.
Huh we do live in a small world
You beat Aidan to it. He's going to be stuck with Roberto Moreno. He'd probably rather tear the Tosser apart.
Glad to see another of your stories appearing. I know these take an age to do, but occasionally I get impatient ;) (JK, I'll wait however long is necessary :))
Memories of him? I tried to forget. Whenever he got a DNQ it made me squirm. When he DNF'd, I think everyone was relieved he wasn't on track potentially about to kill another driver or a marshall.
Nice addition to the animation by drawing up something where you have a hand behind your head for unsure moments!
Sum up Japanese motorsport commentators in 3 words.
14:02.
I like it... actually.
Good memory of Ricardo Rosset..
Geoff Crammond's GP3.. he somehow got P3 in Argentina. A really good memory, if not the best.
There's a term in Horse Racing that can answer the last point about Rosset and Jan Magnussen, it's called collateral form.
On the face of it, Magnussen's results look extraordinary until you realise the field he was competing against in that generation simply wasnt up to much.
Many drivers have suffered this, Stoffel Vandoorne looked the world in GP2, until you realise the field he was competing against was fairly average.
Leclerc, Norris, Russell, Albon all competed against the same F2 field more or less in back to back years and walked it, but we know how good they are because the field in those years was a very good marker.
Great video josh. Please make a video on the f1 2012 season
Next you should do: wtf happened to alonsos 3rd title
Was waiting for this...
It is exceedingly weird to watch this videos (which is a highlight of my day) where drivers in the 90s got outqualified by unremarkable teammates by 2 seconds yet we still think current drivers are the worst to ever be on an F1 grid. It's insanity.
I'd love one on Gaston Mazzacane, a ridiculous farce of an F1 seat that makes Ricardo Rosset at least before F1 look like a legit prospect.
If you get a lappin' from a Vershtappen it had better be Max.
True! There isn't a single driver on the grid that is more than a second slower than Max or Lewis. I'm not sure how much Mazepin would lose to them by but it wouldn't be 2 seconds.
I was just asking, WTF happened to Josh Revell? Good to see another vid bro!
Yes it’s a video on Rosset! I haven’t started watching yet but man do remember the 98 Monaco? He became an F1 legend that day.
Fellow kiwi here, work night shift in a pretty dull job lots of spare time your vids are fantastic to pass the time, keep it up mate
He failed to qualify for the 1998 Monaco Grand Prix, he spun at Mirabeau but managed to keep going.
He spun again before the Pit Lane entrance and miraculously didn't hit anything and kept the engine running. But when he attempted to recover, he got stuck on kerb.
Aftet that incident, the team finally had enough of him and his antics, and reportedly one of the mechanics swapped the letters T and R on his scooter to spell the name "TOSSER".
Been waiting this one for a long time and you nailed it!
I've been patiently awaiting a new video. Great work as usual
Zonta was also touted very highly before he joined F1, and there was even competition who would get to sign him, but never really got anywhere at the F1 level.
In his defense he got one real season (2000) as 99 was a joke. He had some really solid performances, Q in Austria for example. And then just faded away. Not overly sure why given he was teaming with a world champion (even if JV is one of the more disrespected champs) and supposedly provided excellent data for the development of BAR. A bit of a missed gem perhaps.
This and Aidan Millward's Storytime are top tier F1 Content!
Given that you mentioned him a couple of times in this video, I think a 'WTF...' episode on Giovanni Lavaggi may be required soon! Got into F1 despite having even worse F3000 results than Rosset!!
Brundle is really savage when he doesn't like someone!
Following in the footsteps of James Hunt.
Hey Josh,
I love your content. Can you do a video on Stoffel Vandoorne.. He was dominant is lower categories but his F1 career did not live up to the hype.
it was because the mclaren had gp2 engine
Great video mate, just one thing in Bruno Aguiar the U is silent, nether the less, job well done!

Hey Josh, can we expect a Guanyu Zhou video in the future?
Thanks, Josh. I didn't know about the video of Acelerados with Ricardo Rosset, even though brazilian and subscribed to the channel.

Thanks Josh, I just sprayed pepsi all over my PC with that Takagi clip at 14:02! I was not expecting that! lmao!
Informative and entertaining. Have a sub Josh. 🏴
Josh...mate your channel is criminally underrated...your wit is next level
I like it! Could we have a video for my favourite all time backmarker, Ukyo Katayama? A genuinely good bloke who never really caught a break in the sport outwith the likes of Minardi.
Katayama actually scored 5 points in 1994.
@@Altern8One He was very good that year.
The most important question is: Do you play the F1 2020 My Team Mode with Lord Mahaveer as your 2nd driver and can we expect a highlights video of him finishing last in every race? :>
@3.35 thats our dear old boy Fisichella, such a dishonor being mistaken for Rosset! Great video, thanks
He reminds me of A kid I went to school with in Brazil.....Ricardo Rosset was the kids name and were both at a Jewish school in Sao Paolo. I kid you not.
stuff like this make me miss james hunt. i wish we could've seen/heard what he would've said about rosset
Plenty more to choose from: Marquez, Yoong, T. Scheckter, Tuero - keep em coming!

Good video! Entertaining and educating at the same time.
rumours have it that he was ruled out through an injury picked up by going on one of Suzuka's rollercoasters
How about Giorgio Pantano? One of the greatest pre F1 drivers who never got the opportunity to show his talent in F1.
Like Davide Valsecci
Sad part is, he qualifies for many f1 races still. Which is something that the majority of us could never do

So how do you decide whether to use your original avatar or the Bitmoji one?
I think I'll name my team in F1 2020 Rosset GP
I've been super excited for this one, keep up the fantastic work!
19:05 Here is Rosset!
You should do a vid on Luca Badoer. A promising junior career but a faltered F1 career. At least his son Brando Badoer is delivering the goods in karting.
Rosset - I remember many people considered Tora "Tiger" Takagi to be a driving god because of how he compared to his barely ever qualifying team mate. Because for Rosset to be doing what he was doing then Toranosuke must have been rapid...I have no idea what he's doing these days.
"Pollock was a man who boasted about a lot of thing, which ultimately would not eventuate."
So... Craig *ollock then.
Tbf the bit about the team being against him and shit might be true since even Ken Tyrrell didnt want him there, so the mood around him was probably not good from the start (and deteriorating even more with his bad performance)
Shinji Nakano had a similiar problem when he joined Prost. Alain Prost didn't want him but had to use him because of his nationality and the fact they were using Mugen Honda engines, and then promptly ignored him and focused everything on Panis. Shockingly, this had a negative effect on Nakano's season.
