@@黃日恆-l1n You are underestimating Jos, he was a very talented driver. If he could have stayed a testdriver in 1994, instead of having to take JJ Lehto's seat. Fun Fact: He didn't qualify for the 1998 Japanese Grand Prix because he ignored the team and went to ride the Roller Coaster next to the track. He injured his neck and when he got in the car he couldn't cope with the G's he'd sustain. The team just said he injured his neck because they didn't want to be embarrassed.

My conspiracy theory is that Bernie Ecclestone made them do it so Villeneuve could win the championship. Bernie brought Villeneuve to F1 to attract American viewers (who knew him from Indy) and it's obvious that having him win the championship would increase American attention. 1996 proved that Villeneuve wasn't good enough to beat Hill, so Hill had to go. But it's just a theory.

Yeah pretty Brutal story. Apparently Frank and Patrick pulled Damon into an office and said win or lose the Championship you won't be racing here next year. I remember Webber in his book saying that after his first year of a two year deal at Williams they pulled him in to have the same chat but said that seeing as they couldn't see a way out of releasing him from his (Flavio drafted) contract. They told him to the effect that they wanted him out but were stuck with him for another year. Not the the way to get the best out of people...

For Prost too probably, but the French team knowed that they needed someone faster to capitalize occasions for points, so they fired him after 4 races for Burti, contract specifically stated that they had rights to do it if Mazzacane would not deliver results. The guy simply didn't have the talent, just an huge smile, and passion (I remember a race under rain when he had a scuffle with Hakkinen and was third in one moment of the race, and got a mechanical failure as a result of his efforts). Scott Speed is fairly famous here in the states, but not for his Formula 1 career. He competed in 118 NASCAR races from 2008 to 2013, where he only managed one top 5 and four top 10s. Keep in mind that he spent 76 of those races from 2008-2010 with the Red Bull Racing team, which was by no means a top tier NASCAR team, but was relatively competitive and was able to garner a handful of wins in their short lifespan from 2007-2011. His one top 5 came at Richmond International Raceway in 2009, where he magically got a runner-up finish. From 2012-2013, he'd run 29 races with Leavine Family Racing and a couple other backmarker teams. In that timespan, his only statistic was a singular top 10 at Talladega in 2013. While he did find some success in NASCAR's lower series, including 4 wins in the ARCA Menards series and one win in the Gander Outdoors truck series, he was most known for being the worst driver on Red Bull's NASCAR team who had no trouble finding his way to the outside wall.

There's a term in Horse Racing that can answer the last point about Rosset and Jan Magnussen, it's called collateral form.
On the face of it, Magnussen's results look extraordinary until you realise the field he was competing against in that generation simply wasnt up to much.
Many drivers have suffered this, Stoffel Vandoorne looked the world in GP2, until you realise the field he was competing against was fairly average.
Leclerc, Norris, Russell, Albon all competed against the same F2 field more or less in back to back years and walked it, but we know how good they are because the field in those years was a very good marker.

So I can provide at least some of an answer to how he did so well in F3000. 95 was the last year that F3000 remained an open chassis series and Super Nova made their own car, it was faster than Forti and Pacifics F1 cars and considerably faster than anything the other teams had. The series went completely spec the following year.

Some quotes from David Tremayne's profile on Ricardo Rosset in his pre-season guide to the 1996 F1 season...
"Like Mauricio Gugelmin with Ayrton Senna in the old days, Ricardo Rosset shares a house wit fellow Brazilian racer Rubens Barrichello, so he is well poised for his graduation to the world of F1 with Arrows..."
"A thinking driver in the Prost mould, who spends hours pondering set-up..."

Tbf the bit about the team being against him and shit might be true since even Ken Tyrrell didnt want him there, so the mood around him was probably not good from the start (and deteriorating even more with his bad performance)

Shinji Nakano had a similiar problem when he joined Prost. Alain Prost didn't want him but had to use him because of his nationality and the fact they were using Mugen Honda engines, and then promptly ignored him and focused everything on Panis. Shockingly, this had a negative effect on Nakano's season.

    Playing the devil's advocate here:
    1) It is very easy to point your fingers at drivers like Rosset or Magnussen (or, for this matter, Vandoorne, Comas or Liuzzi) not taking into account the numerous variables behind the actual performance of a driver, as if F-1 was a level-playing field. What if Rosset was actually telling the truth? Nobody knows, as nobody will never know whether even worse things happened to other drivers, as history is used to be written by the winners.
    2) There are some unknown information about his spell. He completed only 30 laps before his debut at Melbourne. His car was reusing spare parts (same happened to JV, by the way). Yet, I admit he was terrible at qualifying sessions.
    3) Ken Tyrrell did not want him at any cost. Takagi, on the other hand, had been testing the Tyrrell car since mid-1997. And by the way, Takagi was by no means a "mediocre rookie". He is another guy who will never have a fair judgement on his career.
    4) Properly terrible drivers are quite hard to find at this level. Moreover, their alleged lack of quality are more related to lack of values, lack of development or entitled behaviour (a Russian guy from F-2 springs to mind). It is really bad to laugh at the professional guys with some talent who are trying hard to achieve something.
    5) No connection with Ricardo (he is definitely no championship material), just some lack of tolerance with people who laugh at drivers who showed talent in fairer series and did not have a good spell at F-1.

To be honest, his career in F1 was not a "fair" try. Arrows was pathetic, he did almost zero testing... In Imola, for instance, they forced him to run the 12 laps of quali with only ONE set of tires! In Tyrrell the team was against him because they wanted Fontana and they kissed the japanese's ass because they though that Honda would help them later. Rosset was not a bad driver.
