      No he isn't ... "Old fashioned racing driver" is a funny way of saying overaggressive and rule breaking (remind you of anyone? 🦁🇳🇱). He was a solid midfielder and nothing more. I don't wish to criticise him because the level in F1 is very high and he was more than competent and on his day very very good, but please let's stop this revisionism.

      I was about to get in here and drag The Race for doing what every other F1 media outlet does and judge a solid driver by the numbers alone. Glad to see someone else beat me, even with only 25 comments on the board.
      He's a solid dude and, as a driver, seems to thrive in the proverbial "street fights". F1's loss, sportscar racing's gain.

      Hulkenberg has never got a podium, but by his consistency as 38 year you can still see his better, than Magnussen is. Even Stroll got a podium before, but nobody thinks that highly of him. Sometimes getting a podium or even a race win comes down to luck, so it dosent mean they are that much better, than drivers without a podium, but it also depends on how good car you are given to drive.

    • @ondrejkratochvil4589
      @ondrejkratochvil4589 13 дней назад +1

      @ getting good car is about your manager's skills these days ;) yes, Hulk is on average definitely better than Stroll and probably better than KMag, but he's got no F1 silverware on his shelf... Stirling Moss might have been best driver of his time, but these days he's remembered for not having won the title - as Hulk is atm best known for not making it to the podium although he raced in lot of races (when sorted by number of races the next guy who didn't make it to podium is Sutil with 100 less starts; also he is driver with most starts who hasn't won a race yet) ...

    KMag is the Nordic Jean Alesi.

    • @ArthurZakaryan23
      @ArthurZakaryan23 14 дней назад +10

      Definitely agree there. And as a fan, this kind of driver is one of the most exciting to watch. In K. Mag's case though, his racing skill and/or car just couldn't keep up with his racing/competitive spirit and his ultimate results show that but we definitely need more drivers like him who will fight just as hard for position 15 as they would for a top 5.

    He lasted as long as he did because a solid, decently quick midfield driver is someone who will usually not have too much difficulty finding a berth in F1. That's why Hulkenberg is still there too, and why Perez had such a lengthy career prior to him self-destructing in 2024. A known quantity, a safe pair of hands, call it what you will teams will always be interested in drivers like that.
    Not everyone can be a Fangio or Senna or Schumacher or Hamilton or Verstappen. As the video points out, only 34 drivers have ever won the World Championship so it's not really a realistic expectation to put on any driver. K-Mag parlayed a decent amount of talent into a decade-long career with some very good highs, and I think that's a great way for him to bow out and be remembered.

    I had the pleasure of meeting him at Westfield white city when chipotle where sponsoring the team in order to do some promotional work at the time and i have to say meeting an F1 driver is a tick on my bucket list (even if Lewis Hamilton is one of my heroes and not the haas drivers) but i manage to have a picture with the haas drivers of Nico Hulkenberg and K-Mag.
    And as far as i was concerned they looked pretty glum doing this kind of work even if they wanted to go racing let alone do sponsorship work but other than that Kevin is one of the most underrated F1 drivers to have ever set foot on to the grid and while the results say otherwise we should acknowledge and appreciate how he managed to keep going and race in f1 in the first place i mean he currently is the most experienced and successful danish driver in f1 history but had he taken the right choices at the right time we could've seen a different K-Mag in my view but other than that I really like his no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is approach because he was a racer through and through and that's what i admire about him because he loved his racing and i wish circumstances could've been different had he been at the right place at the right time but you cannot fault him for taking those decisions otherwise.
    It's because we should be grateful to have gladiators like him who is always elbows out and would never give an inch to anyone who may try and trespass that.
    I wish him all the best in his career in endurance racing and I'll be following closely to see how well he does for BMW (whom i wore their merchandise when they partners for Williams at the time and a cap on)
    Hopefully we will see the next Danish driver that could accomplish what Kevin never achieved and be taken seriously for their natural talent and be given a spot in a top team. That i would love to see.

    You can't expect him to be a Verstappen, a Hamilton, a Leclerc, a Norris, a Piastri, or an Alonso. Hell, he probably isn't even a Sainz or a Russell.
    But if you need a safe pair of hands who can semi-consistently drag your midfield car to the points, K-Mag is the man you want. He's arguably Haas's best ever driver alongside Hulk.
    For every GOAT-level driver like Schumacher, Prost, Senna, Vettel, Verstappen, and Hamilton, there's guys like Fisichella, (pre-Red Bull) Perez, Heidfeld, Frentzen, Hulkenberg, Grosjean, Gasly, and, yes, Magnussen who do what they can with smaller teams and less powerful cars.
    Not every team can get a Hamilton, but a small team would love to have a guy like Magnussen.

    2014 australian gp was one of many false dawns mclaren had from 2013-22, after that race I genuinely thought mclaren were back. Little did I know that would be the last time a mclaren driver is on podium for 5 yrs and how bad it would get....

    It wasn't a false dawn. It just didn't suit him. He was never meant to be a podium queen. Everything about him was mid-field. Not because he wasn't good but because his prime motivation was to race wheel to wheel, to never concede and to always attack. It's not possible to live like that at the front so he lived in the middle where he could be himself. He'll be sadly missed cos he had the right stuff.

    Enemy of the FIA since day one and never got the respect he deserved. Was beating both Red Bulls on merit until the infamous Haas pit stop in AUS 2018. And interesting to hear what he said about performance operating window in the current gen of cars; we certainly saw Hamilton suffer from the same issue. Can't wait to see what he does in other series.

    K-Mag was maybe lucky enough to get that podium as McLaren was in a downward spiral. Looking back it was better that he didn't drove for McLaren in 2015 because he would spend most of the time retiring the car with engine issues. 😅 Too bad he never got a shot at a big team that was actually good. 😕
