    I’m not surprised it isn’t on the list, but I think Badoer and Ferrari’s split was quite rough. Badoer was a crucial test driver for Ferrari during their most successful period, putting in 1000s of testing kms using his consistency and technical prowess to help develop some of the greatest F1 cars ever.
    In 2009 Ferrari reluctantly let him drive for Massa when Schumacher was ruled out. The F60 was a dog of a car that took Kimi and Massa ages to get a hold of, and with no testing Luca was thrown to the dogs. He drowned, but was improving and got lots of praise from the other drivers for his underdog performance in ridiculous circumstances. His relationship with Ferrari deteriorated, and he was quietly dropped in 2010.
    I think it’s a sad end to an unsung career

    Im surprised Lotus's team end and Kimi Raikonen didnt make the list. When mid season Kimi was doing great, way too great for the team, and Lotus realized they couldnt pay him anymore because the bonuses for such great finishes were well above projections. So They told Kimi they wouldnt be able to pay him as a driver anymore and Kimi said ok I wont drive for you anymore then. Lotus eventually decided to pay him, went bankrupt, and the team was gone. If that isnt a catastrophic end to both a partnership and a team then IDK what is.

  • @SiVlog1989
    @SiVlog1989 2 дня назад +90

    One that I'd include is Mika Hakkinen and McLaren, 2001. 5th in the championship with 2 wins doesn't sound too bad on paper, but in truth, Mika Hakkinen's final season, not just with McLaren but in F1, was a sad way to sign off a great career where he went from perennial bridesmaid, to nearly losing his life in Adelaide 1995, to claiming his first win at Jerez 1997, albeit in controversial circumstances that he had little to do with, to 2 world titles in 3 years.
    But his 2001 season showed that combined with the 7 DNF's he endured (8 if you count his last lap heartbreak in Spain, where his car broke down with clutch failure and he was classified 9th) he was mentally and physically exhausted and after the birth of his son, Hugo, his priorities were clearly away from the track.
    Although Ron Dennis persuaded him to at least make 2002 a sabbatical year, during the German Grand Prix weekend of 2002, Hakkinen announced that it was in fact a retirement he had entered, meaning his F1 career was over

    • @Balnazzardi
      @Balnazzardi 2 дня назад +13

      Well that too and especially so considering how that decision was made apparently already in 2008, when he had just won WDC and WCC for them and another WCC by the end of that year. But I guess that Santander sponsorship and all the money it would rbing was too good for Ferrari to pass on. Unfortunately what it resulted in was beaten Massa and not a single championship with Alonso, although ofc lot of it had to do with the car itself and to Alonso's credit ofc he did drive brilliantly especially in 2012. Still I wonder what if that Kimi-Massa as teammates had continued for couple more years.

    DC dropping out of McLaren led to the establishment of Red Bull Racing as a proper F1 team, when they bought out Jaguar/Ford in late 2004.

    Alain Prost ending with McLaren, Ferrari or Williams could be on that list too, the 1st after he felt the team gave more ressource to his teammate Senna, the 2nd when Ferrari left him by surprise at the end of the season, forcing him into a "sabbatical year" in 1992 (which could have been a winning year for him if he had the time to secure a seat with Williams), and the 3rd with Williams when they hired Senna to be his 1994 teammate when it was specifically ask not to do in his contract, pushing him into stoping his career (and with some buterfly effect leading to Senna's crash with the Williams)

    • @WhiteG60
      @WhiteG60 2 дня назад +2

      No one ever really talks much about it, but is Prost really an a-hole? When you have a guy that has bad ends with multiple teams spanning a decade, like Alonso, you can usually find a trail of breadcrumbs leading to the fact that they are the actual problem. But with Prost, I never hear that. Just weird that a guy that has had so many poor fallouts has no whispers about him personally.

    • @djse
      @djse 2 дня назад +6

      @@WhiteG60 different time where it was more about the team than the drivers, and each team had they own way of doing things. Prost 'problem" was probably that he wasn't as charismatic as his famous teammates like Senna or Lauda, but he was very vocal about the problems he had, with the team and sometime with the press. But at the end he beat all his teammates with the same car (or allegedly a worst one during his last year at McLaren).
      His story is forever linked with Senna story and Senna's talent felt more impressive because of Prost, but in the public eyes, every battle need a villain and a hero, especially with that much tension, and it's easy to see Senna as the hero, not just because of his passing but because of his charisma. Even I, as a French, and I was a Senna fan over Prost when I was a kid, now that I'm older I know they were both great in their own style and their fights on track made them both legendadry drivers, but I feel sometime people forget how good Prost was.

    • @adammercer6004
      @adammercer6004 2 дня назад

      Despite how good his final season for Renault but Prost's exit from Renault at the end of 1983 season also should be mentioned here even though Prost had only just missed out on the world championship to Piquet at the final round in Kyalami by only a point the Renault F1 team and Renault executive board decided both to refused to take any responsibility for the car's lack of proper season development or for the team's failure to properly support Alain in the final rounds of the championship they instead they blamed Prost for underperforming which of course Prost's was indeed innocent of but anyway they decided to fired him as punishment and had the mechanics set fire to one of Prost's car's in protest to his precieved poor driving at the end of the season now I know that Prost was brilliant in his final year at but to getting fired for not winning the title by only a single point and then having your own car set on fire because they thought you weren't good enough has to count as a disappointing end to a time at a F1 team.

      This is my POV - considering Hamilton has raced for Mercedes (including Mclaren, which used Mercedes power unit), he has became a benchmark for them to thrive in the sport. When Hamilton left, they had to choose someone else to become their benchmark, again in order to get the perfect balance of the car to suit their drivers' needs.
      I say it again, this is my point of view.

    • @kev0802
      @kev0802 2 дня назад +7

      Because he's the one driving the car and getting the results. You need someone that can extract performance from the car on a regular basis. As we saw again in 24, having the best car does not mean it's easy to win. You need to align so many things every weekend. In 2021 Bottas and Perez had the same car as Hamilton and Verstappen, but if you rewatch the races you'll see Lewis and Max 30 to 50 seconds ahead of them in the races. That's why Mercedes owes Lewis. That's why Red Bull owes Max.

    • @alicekoppenol-pitti6257
      @alicekoppenol-pitti6257 2 дня назад +8

      Exactly. They gave him the cars and the hefty paycheck and he proved that with a lesser car winning was not that easy. The fact that they considered him too old to still make the difference and wanting to go for a younger driver should not be held against Mercedes. Every team would consider it the same way.
      Still think that signing with Ferrari while already having signed with Mercedes a few months back and only coming clean when the news was leaked was not a classy move and the teams reaction was as expected . They concentrated on the driver that stayed.
      I don't know what anyone expected but life does go on and Mercedes nor Hamilton owe each other anything because all they had was bought and paid for long ago.
      The sentimental value lies in the mind of the fans. Hamilton was a part of the team. He is not the team.

    I think all teams baring Torro Rosso Seb raced for ended badly. The hardest hit was Ferrari. Binotto should never have been made team principal at Ferrari, yes he was being beaten by Charles rather regularly but when Seb struggles his struggles are visibly catastrophic. It was the same with Daniel Ricciardo and with Charles Lerclerc.
    The culprit is the focus, while Seb is focused on wining races and championships, Daniel and Charles were Seb focused, their focus was to beat Seb to prove their existence in the team worthy. Charles & Daniel both without Seb didn't fare well, while Charles were destroyed by Max, Daniel was destroyed by Max, Lando and even on occasion by Hulk.
    Seb is still the darling of Formula One. I hope he returns.
    Now Formula One is all about Dan Dan Dan Max Verstappen Dan Dan Dan Dan. For Magic Max has no equal in Formula One, having won his 4th title in a 4th best car.

    Ah yes, running from a teammate fight, that sounds like Vettel the man who had to be fired over the phone to leave Ferrari, when he wanted to stay knowing full well that the upper management was trying to pull the team in Leclerc's direction, that Vettel...
    I mean it's not like an offer from the biggest and most historic team in F1, whom Vettel saw his childhood hero and personal friend (who had just gone into a coma months before that) win multiple WDCs with, would be an attractive offer, specially when you consider that he had already won 4 back-to-back titles and had already set his name in F1 history...

We can't forget why Vettel fell off. It wasn't just the car being worse than the year before but also the fact Vettel himself did not adapt well to the new car. The 2025 car will be very similar to what Max is already very used to.

    I feel like most of the editors at The Race have an axe to grind against Lewis. Their editors are always a bit reserved in their praise for Lewis and spend much longer discussing, writing and creating negative videos about him.
    I am all for calling spade a spade, but it does feel like they covertly enjoy seeing Lewis do poorly. And revel in Max doing well. Sad to see.
    At least come out and admit who you support. There is nothing wrong with that.
    I will say that they put out good content in general. It's just that having followed their articles and videos for many years now, you can't help but see an anti-Lewis trend, as covert as it may be.

      Michael stayed with Ferrari after his racing days. The decision may have been made for him in the end, but I think he would have retired that year anyway. Besides, he stayed with Ferrari after 2006. He was a test driver and brand ambassador for Ferrari until he left for Mercedes. He was also involved in the development of the road cars. So nobody can talk about a sad end to the partnership...

    I still feel the best partnership in F1 was Schumacher/Ferrari, won 3 races in his opening season in a poor car, then led them to 5 drivers & 6 constructors. I think its unfair to count Mclaren & Mercedes as one, WE are not the same, yes Mercedes engine, but a Mclaren car & gearbox. Mclaren ethos! 2024 Champions! 🏆 😀

    • @mrgalaxy396
      @mrgalaxy396 2 дня назад +2

      For long lasting partnerships I agree, Hamilton landed in a finished product that had unprecedented dominance over other teams, especially in the engine department. Michael had to build Ferrari back from chaos into winning ways for years and the only reason it ended was because he was starting to become bigger than the team in the public eyes, something the Ferrari bosses were not pleased with.
      Mercedes was gonna be a successful project either way, with Rosberg leading the team they'd still win most of those WDCs in the original turbo hybrid V6 era. Maybe the stats wouldn't be as impressive, but the titles are really what matters. Meanwhile Ferrari despite all its resources and prestige have won a SINGLE title since 1979 that didn't include Michael, which was Raikkonen who was driving in the team structure Michael had helped build. We had so many great drivers, even multiple WDC champions driving and they all fell short over ultimate glory. To me that tells me what Michael achieved was something truly special. Michael was the one that launched Ferrari back into glory, for Hamilton and Mercedes it feels the other way around.

    • @grdixon83
      @grdixon83 2 дня назад

      @mrgalaxy396 Even though I'm a Mclaren fan, I think Ferrari & Schumacher's 2002 title was the most impressive season ever. There where No rule changes for 2002, the only major change was Mclaren returning to Michelin. The F2002 was georgeos, & the 15 wins it took where dominant. It's not to put down Lewis or Max's dominant seasons, but in an era with multiple tyre companies, V10's that incredible to listen too, & Ferrari's extraordinary reliability after the 1996 horror's(1st Ferrari V10) It was really impressive. Very sad that Michael isn't around the paddock to get his due reverence. 😔
