    Here is a list of Caran d ache rich pastel pencils colours I use: numbers...
    Primary colours...
    Reds... 788-060, 080
    Yellows... 788- 240, 530, 035
    Blue... 788- 145
    Orange 788-052
    Purple 788-099
    Green 788-719
    Rich colours I sometime use for the bright areas in the skin tones...
    788- 541, 542, 871, 581.
    Carbothello pencils are... green 1400/585, red... 305, orange, 221, lemon yellow 205, yellow ochre 685 and white 100. I don't use this brand's blues as the lightfastness is very poor. so I use Conti a Paris ones for them,... No10, No 06, No 22 and No46. Also the purple red for the deep shadows ... No19
    If you can afford it I would recommend buying the sets as the extra colours would be very useful for clothes and backgrounds and can work out cheaper per pencil... affiliate links below.

      My tip would be to see it first has blocks of shapes and tones... forget about the details they will appear in the later stages. Best not to label things too. Just see hair as light and shade... as thinking can tend to add fear. It will develop in time for sure. 🙏🙏

    • @DavePortersArt
      @DavePortersArt  4 года назад +1

      I dont use fixative... Pastelmat grabs the pigment so well it is fine without it. I have found in the past fixing causes dullness so I don't fix for that reason mainly. My pencils seem to glide because I have only covered the tooth of the Pastelmat slightly... a little tooth helps. Adding too much pigment down first could make it difficult to achieve a flowing line. • @DavePortersArt
      @DavePortersArt  3 года назад +2

      Hi Julia... I would start a little at a time to start with. Love is the key factor to change anything. Keep having loads of breaks... also don't be hard on yourself.If you have some music that you love to hear I would play that softly in the background. The issue with stress and anxiousness is that the mind somehow feels alive and enjoys the attention... so don't suppress the thoughts accept that they are there and somehow surround them with your love by being aware of them. Give yourself a virtual hug. Don't surpress the thoughts, don't let them take you over but somewhere in the middle just space them out. They should just fade away. Take care ...hope that these pointers work for you 😊🙏

    Hy Dave, What background can I make by white/grey hairs? (And Dark brown eyes)

    • @DavePortersArt
      @DavePortersArt  3 года назад +1

      Hi Julia... grey hairs have loads of cold colours in them. Blues, purples etc. So an orange/yellowish background would bring out the hair... it all depends what you want to emphasize. A pastel yellow greenish background could bring the face out too. If you have a computer program like Photoshop... sometimes I would try different colour on the background of the reference image first and see what looks best before piling on the pastels.. Hope that helps. 🙏🙏

    Wow, are you self taught? Do you have tuition lessons where you can attend?

      Hi Sheils thank you... mainly self taught... I've developed this technique by adapting my oil painting knowledge to pastels. I have Patreon up and running at the moment... link in the description. ☺🙏

      Hi Spencer... I used to do the exact thing when I was younger, album after album, loved every minute. As I have got older, it seems that silence is golden whilst I paint now. I just go with it, still love to listen to music in my free time still. :-)
