You are incredibly talented and watching you doing human’s skin tones, gently later upon layer is absolutely fascinating thank you so very much. I’m learning so much from watching you blending the skin tones on whichever Video I am watching. I like your advice about drawing from the cherry and allowing it to just “happen”. I’m an artist, but I’m also a Textile Artist. Frequently I see something in my mind’s eye and then I seek to duplicate it, trusting that my hands will be replicating what’s in my mind’s eye. My art follows a very similar sort of action which is why I seem to understand EXACTLY what you are telling us here. Thank you so VERY much. You are an amazing Teacher, Bless your Heart Dave. Hi Margot, thank you for the kind words... I couldn't draw or paint a thing if I wasn't centred in my heart. Letting go of mind control is the key to connecting. Sounds fascinating what you create, all the very best. You are welcome, thanks for watching. 😊🙏
I am amazed and fascinated by the amount of colours there are involved just for the skin tones. I appreciate you mentioning their names and makes. I'm just watching for now and trying to get my head around it. Portraits are what I've always dreamed of doing. Although I have a good selection of colouring pencils, I don't have the makes that you've mentioned. Wondering if it makes a big difference? Beautiful picture! You are an excellent artist! ❤
Thank you for the kind words Piedade, colour can be so varied, that why I like to keep a simple palette to simply the application. Portrait are wonderful genre, I would recommend checking out my Patreon membership as everything now is posted in Realtime, you will see every step and hear my explanations Thank you so much for watching my videos 🙏
Hi Barbara... thank you so much. Be sure to check out my channel has there are two more videos to watch as there series portrait is now complete. Take care. ☺
Hi Dave Another Great Video from you. Your Patreon as mentioned before is well worth joining, you are so amazing to watch and listen too, would recommend it to everyone. My Child Portrait is coming along nicely, was frightened of messing up, but just got on with what I learnt from you. So Thank you Dave.
Thank you so much for recommending my channel to your friends. Thanks again for your awesome support by joining me on Patreon. Much Appreciated 🙏 Great news that your child portrait is shaping up well. Persevering is the key to succeeding 😊 All the very best 😊🙏
Great video as always, i really appreciate the way you learn colors relationship ... I learnt a lot from you and improved my work so thank you a lot for your generosity and sharing your knowledge.
Absolutely fascinating and relaxing, thank you for sharing so generously and lovingly. Can I ask, did the photographer make a lot of adjustments in Photoshop to make the portrait look more painterly?
Do you figure out the temperature of the colors just by using them? Is there a chart you use? What makes you use a cool or warm color in certain spots?
Hi Ed, depending on the light source... if it is a warm light highlights will be warm and the shadows cool. It is a matter of seeing, once you experience this the world looks so different and magical. Thanks for watching. 🙏
You are such Amazing Artist ! Im à newbie, I have Faber C and Stabello, but bought Caran D'arche portrait set 20 colored pencils can they be combined with Pastel ?
Thank you so much for you kind words... coloured pencil if they are waxy will not mix I reckon, as pastels are chalk based. I've not used coloured pencils so cant really give you an accurate reply. All the very best with your art. 🙏
sorry for the newbie question, ive just bought a set of carbothello pencils on the strength of your video, can you tell me why you use both them and the caran d'ache pencils, im pondering on whether to buy them too, could be an expensive flop. Given ive spent so much on the coloured pencil sets they have.
Hi Eddie... carbothello's are great... I use conte pastel blues and the cold red because of the lightfastness is better. I use caran dash for the freshness and added vibrancy. Wait until you see my next video... I am painting the same study in carbothello v Pitt pencils v Caran d'Ache...First time using pitt pencils this will give a cheaper alternative and each brand I show the result and review them... hopefully will be finished editing next week 🤞
Hello Mr. Dave! How are you? Fistr of all thank you for your so helpfull videos in your patreon! Can i ask you if the color of the paper change our palette colors that we will use? Be safe and creative!
I'm good thank you Christine... hope you are too. You are welcome.... thrilled you are getting value watching them. Regarding your question... the colour choice would be the same... the only thing to be aware of is that you will have to add more layers to create the darker colours. As sometimes I allow the dk grey I usually use to show through the layers on top of it... so using the colour of the board to create the tone for the subtle Shadow colours. Hope that answers your question. Take care Happy draw and painting 😊🙏
Hi Clarence, it depends on the brand... Faber Castell pencils are hard, Conté à Paris, CarbOthello and Caren d'Ache in my experience are soft... softest being the Conté à Paris ones. 🙏🙏
You speed up the video, so I was just wondering, how much time do you normally spend on painting a portrait? I am trying to get better at portraits and have learned a lot from watching you. Thanks.

Quedo perfecto, una duda q utuliza secadora y para que?
Hola, no uso secadores ni fijadores. La superficie Pastelmatt mantiene el pigmento en su lugar, por lo que no es necesario arreglarlo.
Beautiful. Do you also have or going to do a tutorial on still life?
Thank you Nina... Great suggestion... will add a still life to my list of videos to do. 🙏

I usually complete a portrait around 10...15 hours. 🙏
