When the race started and the whole grid screamed off down the track leaving everyone in fog guessing what might've happened first corner but couldn't see it lol.
Not Castrol ‘R’ Paul, that’s real old school, Castrol 747 is the stuff for a classic stroker running Avgas-but I know what you mean-god I miss my TZ250D……..
@@K777John Only good two stroke I ever had was an 1992 RGV250, but my m8 had the RD350LC until it seized at 80mph and spat him into a wheat field, he survived luckily with only scratches, but the bike went to heaven 😥 and the gearbox on mine coughed up it guts a few months later, and I hate myself for selling it but you do silly things in the past.
@@K777John actually R40 was used with Avgas, typically mixed in a 16:1 - 25:1 ratio. You’re right about the 747, that’s the synthetic stuff that the rich guys used for their TZs.
Brilliant - watched this just after the top gear tribute to Eddie Kidd, butterflies in my stomach and tears in my eyes, when the blue haze first popped out of the pipe ... brilliant.
I suppose you have to be born last century to love 2t. Im In love. I sold my valved bikes years ago. Im lucky enough to own 2t at either end of the evolution. An early kawasaki H1 500 mach 3 and a RS250 aprillia. Worlds apart but so much fun to ride. I could own faster, larger machines. Id rather be happy.
Hi Lee, it’s not just the sound but the smell of the 2 strokes that I particularly remember from going to watch Moto x in the late 70’s with my late father. Great trip down memory lane, thanks for posting…
@@gdmonks1959 Yep, absolutely loved it. Sure I paid £2.5K for it (was the gull-arm model, twin pipes up the side). Was in a lovely metallic black. Bet I could get £8K for it if I still had it to sell. I always regretted not getting an NSR though. One in Rothmans colours with the credit card ignition!!!!
Frank Wrathall ported two TZ350 motors that we were running in the F350 Championship in the mid-late 90's. They were absolute fliers after he'd sprinkled his magic FW tuning dust on 'em. You are spot-on Lee, Frank has an absolutely gorgeous gaff. Thanks for sharing, and good luck mucker. P.S. get yer 'arris over to Aberdare Park Road Races in 2022, it would be great to see you tearing up the place.
What a great purchase and nostalgia for the one's who grew up in the era when they were being raced everywhere and the pinnacle of the club man's,, many road racers dream bikes ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️from Northern Ireland greatly appreciated thank you Lee
I had classic TT 2020 booked, gutted. Will be booking 2022 as soon as I can. If get to see you on the mountain on a 2 stroke I will die happy....... well maybe Hicky as well, then I will be even happier.
Oh my!! You're so right! You've gotta be a corpse for that not to put a smile on ya face!! I sold my GSXR'S & kept my YPVS! Smiles per mile priceless! ❤ 😍
Minds me of the times way back watching Bud Asklund and Brian Turfrey testing nori Abe and Wayne Rainey’s 500 GP bikes in the shop behind the truck yard in calif Central Valley! Good memories.
Their is only one type of motorcycle engine that belongs on two wheel either with a motocross or road bike is the 2stroke. Best sound, best smell and more importantly BEST FUN.
When race engines are being warmed up the throttle is usually opened, to rev the motor, and then closed until the revs drop. So fuel only enters the engine for a very short time whilst the throttle is open, as in the video, and is closed for a longer time as the revs drop. Would it not be more effective to hold the revs constant, by holding the throttle partially open and admitting fuel constantly. It is the fuel, mainly, that is causing the motor to heat up, so more fuel equals more heat. Any comments anybody? I must admit it wouldn't sound nearly as good though, especially with a two stroke.
I've got a fairly highly tuned TZR250 3ma if I keep the throttle steady while warming up or on the road under 8 or 9 thou it will start to fluff a plug up. revving it to 5 thousand revs and above while warming up in neutral is OK or opening it up over 10thousand on the read will clear it. Its a pain in town. Never misses a beat between 9,500 and 12,000
Well ... It's working thru heat waves as a process ... Internally shutting down the throttle just means you don't give enough gas to maintain cycles as they are ... But lubricants in the mix are still sticking to their duties ... Warming it up thru a linear opening won't brought up the due respect to what's the alloys use in the built ... It's less obvious with water cooled ones, but you can feel what's the difference in between dry or wet aluminum alloys with time ... And sometimes even between dry or wet cast iron, even if ... Well, cast iron culture is not exactly what it used to be ... So ... Think of it internally . Would you want it to be kept "dry" or "wet" ... So ... Anything to do with waving or not ??? Dare, care, ride safe, clean, have fun ... From France with.
Ahhhhhhh two stroke Pity we can't smell it😀😀😀😀I miss the smell of two stroke and bacon fat in the morning. Thanks for sharing this video with us 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
