Jeremy, another great tips are 1) online auctions can easily be researched without the quick pressure at live auctions 2) and this is HUGE tip, whether its online or live, people can/should look to see if site has 1 month free or $1 for first month like public storages have. If not, run a search for them in nearby vicinity. This allows people luxury of not having to leave deposit at site or transport to nearest 1 month free site, where they have 1 month to take inventory and sell

From a tax perspective if you earn more then $400 form a side hustle (self employment) it must be reported to the IRS, however you can also use your expenses (i.e. mileage, cost of equipment rental, locks etc) to reduce the amount of income (even your regular 9 to 5 income....speaking from a 9 to 5 tax preparer 😉

Taxes are stressful. I do a lot of e commerce with Ebay and other sites like it. It's crazy to think that the items I buy and pay taxes on, then pay fees to Ebay and PayPal are also taxed, then to have to report my earnings and possibly pay more taxes. That's not even including the shipping and packaging involved smh. Mericuh! I guess

Awesome advice for hunters , I would also add get a pawnbrokers Bible (around $100.retail ) and do your Homework on items before you start bidding ... By knowing products and their history and values you will be a better Hunter

I have a friend that is paying over $120 a month for a storage unit. All it has is a bunch of holiday decorations, some slides, and other random junk. I have tried to get her to sell the stuff because she isn't able to go to the unit to even get the stuff out and put it up for the holidays. Keep in mind she has been paying rent on the unit for more then 5 years. I told her she could be saving that money each month but she is hard headed and wont listen. Ugh

@@helenriddoch966 She won't listen to reason I have told her and her daughter has told her to sell it, trash it, just get rid of it.I know how hard it can be to let things go. I down sized from a 4 bedroom house to a 1 bedroom condo. I thought about getting a unit but then realized just how stupid that would be. I let my adult children take what they wanted and I sold the rest. Then my step dad died and my mother had to go to a nursing home. So I was faced again with selling all the stuff from their home. Had to make some hard choices I kept pics, a very few things because I didn't have room for much else. I again let the kids take what they wanted and sold the rest. My kids tried to get me to move into my parents home because it had so much more room. I told them no that I liked having a small place and it had a patio where I could grow plants, bbq, eat outside. My parents also had land so I would be mowing all the time to keep it up. I sold the house the first day it went on the market to a really nice family. They told me to stop by anytime I wanted to and see the place. I do go by now and then and they are taking good care of the place. This last summer they loaded me up with fresh veggies from the garden.

Garage Sales...where I live you need to pull a permit for the sale AND you can only get two (2) permits / year. BTW the fee for the permit is; $15.00
NO did not record them , but found a diamond ring and other things,, we are not resellers yet ,thinking about it though ,we like the hunt and collecting and don't have alot of time , but there are more platforms to sell on now than 10 to 15 years ago lol so will see . You gave out good info on how to start going to storage auctions and how to get rid of the things you don't want we've taken things to the auction house also I think that's a really good way to do it, have a action house about a half mile away from our house so works out well for usi, well wish you and George nothing but good luck ,be kind and keep it real ,have a great day.

Most storage companies i have dealt with absolutely do not allow you to yard sale in their property or outside the gates. That is a big no no

One of these days I'm actually gonna try going to an auction for abandoned storage units. Maybe I will get lucky and win some valuable items from an abandoned storage unit. It's a 50 50 either way.

Question: What happens to the unsold units?
Any Storage Units that are not bought get loaded into a dumpster and sent to the dump ... the facilities typically hire a clean out crew just like banks do with foreclosed homes

By the way my husband and I have gotten storage lockers before , found some good stuff lol .

BE careful on the income threshold, Here in Massachusetts, I think it is $600 or $900 ( I forget which) per year. that you have to start claiming it.. There are a few other Northeastern states in that threshold also.. So definitely check with your individual state. GREAT idea for renting the unit for a month with no space, I have done that and it worked ok. ALSO, before bidding on the unit, check with facility for how long you have to clean out. I work till 5 PM and facility closes at 6. SO big units, I have to figure in the bid that I am going to have the unit for the month REGARDLESS..

Not all storage units allow garage sale. Nothing says they can’t come pick things up there though.

If a storage unit contains weapons, any special things that need to be done? Don't you need a special license to sell? Do you need to touch base with law enforcement?

You want to check with your state laws because laws are different depending on what state you live in.
make sure if you find alot of scales in one unit the old owner was probablly weigh in pounds of weed or cocaine

This video was great thank you is very informative I did learn stuff from it I just didn't understand why you didn't bid on the other ones like why didn't he bit on the other one the one with the solid wood armoire and the other one with the white table or it was a dresser and they were cheaper than the $40 one that they did he did they were $20 only he could have gotten the two of them for $20 instead of the other one that was 40 I didn't understand that
The couple that we were teaching was interested in tools, lawnmowers, etc... The other units with household items didn't appeal to them. What someone bids on, all is based on what they are interested in :)

Don’t you find it weird that storagetreasures.com has the online auctions but the photos make it seem staged like they went through everything already and put out the attractive items to showcase. What’s your thoughts?

You mention leaving the garbage behind and just losing the cleaning deposit. Around here doing that will get you banned from future auctions.
It all depends on the facility. Different facilities have different rules :)

Great advice here and entertaining. I can't believe you all didn't get that unit with the wood piece!...a couple of those units I would have paid 25 for.. Who knows, everyone has their own motives, it's cool. I got a unit one time and had about $150 in pesos. A few measly coins tucked away. You never know.
