'As much as a cliff-hanger as it ever is as I needed to find some hinges..' - I love following this vlog, it is as much about your project as it is my own house.
Hi David. I didn't think I had any need to know about van conversions. Then I thought I have absolutely no need to know about narrowboats but I've watched every episode. So I binged watched the van vlogs. GREAT to see you happy. You're a hinge artist.
Those dowel hinges are a super clever idea. Kudos to whomever suggested that. Looks great too. There are stick on vinyl/metal 'tiles' that you can buy from hardware stores. They are lightweight and come in all sorts of styles. Be safe and healthy, David!
Isn't that just one of the best feelings? When you've worked at something and then redone it and its come out better than you'd imagined and you did it all with your own two hands and what's between your ears.
I am pleased to see the third installment of the cabinet build because you did, indeed, leave us with a bit of a cliff hanger last time when you pointed out that you were unhinged.
Loved the video. Especially your sense of humor. LOL So glad I remembered you doing van videos. Looking forward to a different type of video on Cruising the Cut.
Hello David. I don’t know what people are talking about in regards to your cupboards I think they look pretty cool with the hinges on the outside. But then again, I’ve worked with wood before, and I can appreciate a well made shelf with ingenious ideas on opening them. Especially outside of the box ideas. I must admit seeing you build this camper from basically a chassis to what it looks like at the present video, it’s amazing to see. I never thought I’d enjoy watching you build and maintain and travel in a home made camper van, but it has grown on me. I have and still do enjoy your cruising the cut videos and now I’m beginning to really appreciate your van channel too. I look forward to any of your future adventures that you document and Vlog. Ben from Australia 🇦🇺
My suggestion is a large photo or a mural of one of the places you visited in New Zealand. I know because of a pandemic, getting back was a pain. But you seemed to be enjoying your visit before then.
@9:00 I love your terminology "elasticated netting" Loverly! Also your design of using swivel dowels to stop doors and drawers from opening is simple and brilliant.
Wow, those shelves came out lovely! Definitely a great improvement over the earlier versions. And I actually like the look of the hinges on the outside, especially the way the dowels step down as you go along.
I have only just caught up with this little trilogy of vlogs. Who knew that watching a middle aged bloke going about his blokey stuff could be so engaging and entertaining. I'm almost tempted to say enthralling but that might be a bit too much. I remain convinced that our David is one of the most natural entertainers I have encountered. I could happily watch him wamble on about pretty much anything.
How good to see you back and smiling! I thought you did a super job on the cupboards - the dowel hinges are genius! Hope you enjoyed your night in the car park! 😆😆
A great watch..Thank You...Side of van suggestion.. Linoleum ! Available to look like wood or marble etc and super cheap for an off cut and easy to attach with adhesive.
Wonderful upbeat video, taking pleasure out of doing simple tasks. What we all yearn for at the moment but instead mostly find ourselves turning to Netflix or some other mindless activity.
Those dowel hinges add character. :) I understand why they'd have to be on the outside. I think I learned from playing with Lego. If you make a Lego door out of bricks... I've forgotten the details, but I'm pretty sure you have to offset the hinges to the side you want it to open, because the bricks are designed for making walls; there's no clearance. It's so very nice when you've made something and it's turned out well! :D
Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together? Very nice job :) I had to laugh at the old corner unit, it reminded me of an office in and out tray ha ha
A fine job sir! I really like the red mahogany color and the corner cutouts in the rear drawers, very well done. And thanks for the new word "chuffed"!
been watching your new and older van videos and from the early days of the van your diy skills have sharpened up very well indeed. You done a good job there and the staining colour is really nice too, Well done David,
I'm impressed by the whole conversion. For someone who doesn't class themselves as highly technical you've done a fantastic job and packed a lot of great features into your van. In fact it's really got me thinking to converting my Transit this year, I've had a hankering to get up into the highlands again.
I really appreciate your excitement over seemingly mundane activities such as, " a place for everything ", and the creation of. Hours I've spent opening and closing hidden compartments in built in furniture. Even hunting for things , just the right size. No, I'm no longer married. Well done you. A cup of tea and perhaps a small slice of cake ? You've earned it.
That solution came out very well indeed. Huge improvement on the practicality side of things. Looks good too. And yeah, I would have been chuffed to bits as well, if it was my van.
The cupboards look amazing! What a terrific looking job; you are a fantastic builder! Thank you for the joy you've given by today's vlog; it's really nice to see you in such a great mood.
Very cleverly executed. I really like the hinges. I will have to remember that. You had to be elated on how well it worked. Be careful, you may be a magnet for people who need your help. Thanks for sharing.
Your new cupboards are beautifully build and you are rightfully proud of your achievement! - You should cover the area under the new cupboards with cork so you can pin stuff on it. Or use magnetic material to use fridge magnets.
Yes, I've been ridiculously pleased with the new cupboards and drawers ever since I made them. Just this morning I have re-fitted them after changing the sink (which you'll see in a later video) and it's such a relief to have them back in place.
I'm glad you're experiencing the joys of a job well done. The little extra satisfaction that comes from being able to say "I did that!" is priceless. As for that section of undecorated wall, I think it's time you sought out your inner Jackson Pollock and just had a go at some paint flinging. No one can say you did it wrong.
it took me a month but I have successfully watched every cruising the cut and vandemonium video, thoroughly entertaining indeed. keep up the good work and well done on the build, it's fantastic.
Love hinge-gate. Good decision on having them outside and I love the decision not to use magnets. You should be really delighted with the outcome/look.
Very nice I remember when you started this project you were not very complimentary about your DIY skills well you were wrong you are quite skilled it looks great and will work well also 3 big cheers to you!
Oh, quality work all round!! And it's nice to see that you've kept it simple. My suggestion for extending the curtains would be a simple bungee arrangement for each top corner, and what, in certain curtain circles, is known as a 'pelmet' for the top!!!
Well done! It looks so much better than before. I’m glad you’re pleased with it. Also, that cherry wood gives it such a classy look. You knocked it out of the park! For the wall, you could pu some kind of scenery on it. Maybe a narrow boat or ducks or horses or a waterfall or something interesting to look at.
An additional thought about your back wall... here in Canada the dollar stores have some decent looking stick on fake tiles for next to nothing... I’d have a look at your local poundland to see if they might carry something similar. It really is looking good though I must say.
Whiterock or Saniclad type pvc cladding for the splashback, it is what is used in commercial kitchens, hard wearing and wipe clean. You can now also get patterns like tiles or marbles etc 👍
Great video! How about a mirror in the space under the cupboard where the glue pulled off the wood? It would make the space seem larger plus you could see how adorable you look. 🙂
Good to see you so happy with the results, especially after the last episode of _Cruising The Cut,_ and how the joy seemed to have got out of traveling on the canals.
I think the shelves and drawers all look very nice. You are very crafty. I look forward to seeing your future adventures even if it is just in the carpark for now.
Vantastic, an ingenius fix for the hinges, the cupboards and drawers look great, and a happy David enjoying filling cupboards and drawers, what more could one want :-)
Suggestion for your wall... I would put chalkboard or white board paint. So you can write inspiring quotes or write something that you want to explain in your video. 👍🏻✌🏻🇨🇦
Nicely done David, clever fixes all around ! I wouldn’t worry about what to do with the blank wall just yet as you will think of something clever and useful in a future inspiration.
If you haven't already put stoppers inside your cupboards, try rubber ones. wood ones might start driving you mad whilst driving over time if they get a fraction loose. Rubber ones have a bit of give in them so you can make them sit tighter against your external twist locks
Excellent job, no need for high tech imported hinges, these dowel hinges are fully functional, pleasing to the eye, and a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Suggestion for the backsplash: a sheet of thin gauge stainless steel - easy to clean, easy to apply, lightweight, and brightening the room. And if you polish it, you have a full size mirror to check on your appearance before you start filming.
You are a kid with a new toy. Well done David. Stay safe.🙏👍🇦🇺

@@Vandemonium When you have 20 minutes to spare you should watch Cross Timbers Bison's Feb 6 2022 video. I think you might like it.
I am pleased to see the third installment of the cabinet build because you did, indeed, leave us with a bit of a cliff hanger last time when you pointed out that you were unhinged.
There are peel and stick vinyl panels in many many different styles that you could stick on that wall.
Loved the video. Especially your sense of humor.
LOL So glad I remembered you doing van videos. Looking forward to a different type of video on Cruising the Cut.
Thanks so much!
word of the day: chuffed, very pleased or satisfied.... looks great.

Thanks Ben. The van works for me and that's all that matters!
Congratulations on the hinges. Great engineering! And very smart.
Thank you very much!
Your overhead shelf looks fab.
Thank you, I'm really pleased with it
My suggestion is a large photo or a mural of one of the places you visited in New Zealand. I know because of a pandemic, getting back was a pain. But you seemed to be enjoying your visit before then.
Now *that* is a really nice idea. I shall look into that.
yes, possibly laminated for the splashback. Nice idea!
Man.... this all came out absolutely awesome!! You've done a fantastic job!
Thank you
LOVED the epilogue 😁😁
@9:00 I love your terminology "elasticated netting"
Loverly!

Thank you for the Vlog. I was having withdrawal symptoms.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow, those shelves came out lovely! Definitely a great improvement over the earlier versions. And I actually like the look of the hinges on the outside, especially the way the dowels step down as you go along.
For the curtain, as someone else has mentioned, Velcro is your friend. Just put a 2-3" pelmet across held up with Velcro.

Thank you! Haha yes "enthralling" would be over-egging the pudding a bit 😂
I think the hinges you built yourself look great. Gives the build a little bit of own character to it. Hope the rest of it works out well for you.
How good to see you back and smiling! I thought you did a super job on the cupboards - the dowel hinges are genius! Hope you enjoyed your night in the car park! 😆😆

I find this really fascinating and quite inspiring. What gets the extra thumbs up is that you do all this without a workshop as such, brilliance!

as much of a cliff hanger as these things get! love it.

Whiterock or Saniclad type pvc cladding for the splashback, it is what is used in commercial kitchens, hard wearing and wipe clean. You can now also get patterns like tiles or marbles etc 👍

In our van, we have press studs that hold our black out lining in place
Only recently started to watch the vandemonium videos. Just saw this - - and I absolutely do love the hinges and matching stoppers!
You don't need tiles for the wall, there is vinyl flooring with tile patern you can use for that
I was just going to make that suggestion. Inexpensive and very, very rugged.
I like the new look cabinets and the wooden dowl hinges are brilliant it adds indervidual caracter to your van.
I love it when a plan comes together. Very neat and tidy!
Me too!
Well done, I hope to see you on a campervan trip soon
Massive massive improvement, chuffed really is a fantastic word isn't it as well!

Great video! How about a mirror in the space under the cupboard where the glue pulled off the wood? It would make the space seem larger plus you could see how adorable you look. 🙂
Nice work David! I suggest "Caravan Carpentry" as the title for your next Vlog Channel!
Clever hinge compromise! Well done!
You did a beautiful job on those cupboards.
Brilliantly simple , and does the job very well. Why get technical when you can be simple. The best ideas are uncomplicated. Well done !!
brilliant! 😁 nicely done!
a thought... your plate holder, unless they are plastic, you need something behind so they dont break as you go over bumps!

Hi one thing that comes to mind for your wall over the sink is a sheet of copper, polished up would look very nice and it would not be too heavy. 😎
