    1:54 "I went for a little chat with the boat captain, and told him about life on the narrowboat--whether he wanted to hear about it, or not." Hilarious! I laughed out loud! Thanks, David! I look forward to your next New Zealand campervan holiday video! Thanks again and take care!

    Factoid. Banana's in the Southern Hemisphere curve to the left while those north of the equator curve to the right.

    I know you apologised in your other video that it was all shot on your phone and very basic. If you hadn't told me that I wouldn't have known, really great little video, shows not only how great phone cameras are but also that in the hands of a professional you can produce good looking videos with basic equipment. Look forward to the rest and glad you are home safe.

    OMG 😱I’ve found the New Zealand section. 🥳 🎉. Sadly the wrong island. You really need to visit what we call the mainland. The scenery is beyond amazing. If you love Wales then South Island New Zealand is your heaven. We call those who live in Auckland Jaffas. (Just another f***ing Aucklander) But I’m glad you enjoyed it. You certainly got to see some of the most beautiful parts. Looking forward to part 2, 3, 4.

      Yes, on an iphone SE using the Filmic Pro app. The natural sound is poor due to problems with a mic I plugged in so had to use the phone's mic without a furry windshield on it (yuck)

    Done with a telephone or with a real camera, your videos always are of excellent quality and most enjoyable to watch and listen to. That small campervan may not have been the best around, but I thought that it was all fairly nicely done, and I even think that a small van like that would certainly find clients in our part of the world, but so far I've never seen anything that resembles this van. I could be completely wrong, and there may be thousands around here, without ever having been near enough to see one.
    Looking forward to the rest of this holiday of a lifetime, too late for me to still do that one day, unless I'm lucky in the lottery.

    That view is wonderful. Your pan shots was just perfect.
    Your camper van looked like a bee from the back w/all those lines on it, reminds me of how they buzz around. But I guess it served it purpose. You just drive, cook, & sleep in it. Oh & see wee in it... lol...
    So sorry you spilled your milk. Oh I hate that.

    I had something similar when I was travelling around NZ, (8 yrs ago) looks like they have upgraded the back kitchen section. I had a hi-top Toyota Hiace from Escape rentals, which had a cool box & ice blocks and a hand pump water tap. I only used it for rinsing things & used the campsite kitchen facilities.

    Hi David. Silly fun fact: when the were building the extra lanes onto the harbour bridge, we called them the "Nippon Clipons". Nice to see my home town again. I've been in Australia noe for thirty years. Look forward to your next chapter. Cheers, Mark.

    Your video is an interesting watch, two points - [a] the underground railway is being constructed in the same way as the original undergrounds of London, dig a "big hole" construct what you need to, then back fill the dirt on top. This underground railway was proposed by a former Mayor - Sir Dove Meyer-Robson, back int he 1960's -70's, he was "laughed at", yet he had studied such systems around the world, including London and was convinced then it would work for Auckland - how time flies; the second [b] - the external lanes on the harbour bridge where manufactured in Japan, and became know as "Nippon Clip On's" as NZ did not have the engineering capabilities (then) to achieve such a build. For what journey's you achieved prior to having "escape lock down", I hope you enjoyed the trip. I hope you will be able to return in "saner times".

    • @Tom_YouTube_stole_my_handle
      @Tom_YouTube_stole_my_handle 4 года назад

      We call that technique cut and cover. The tube lines constructed by that means lie just under the surface and follow London's main roads. It was a massively destructive construction method though notwithstanding the severing of existing services running along roads such as sewers, gas and water mains. It was replaced fairly early on by a shield boring technique. Imagine a huge wooden ring on its side with tunnellers inside digging at the clay. The ring was moved forwards into the space created in front of it. London is built on clay north of the Thames and chalk to the south, hence the tube network is mainly in the north with the southern parts running above ground where possible.

    Nice! Last year May, I went to the Republic of Georgia for 5 months to fly paragliders. I bought a Mercedes Vaneo 1.9 petrol auto, and did something similar but much simpler. I didnt bother with any cabinetry, just a single bed from the back door up to the back of the passenger seat, so I retained the front seat. Six little plastic veggie crates under the bed, the two at the back being the kitchen. I learned long ago... Dont cook in the van. Its cute tho. Concept is sound. Prefer the space in my Sprinter tho. Thanks for the entertainment. I dream of a life on the Cut. Keep it up.

    We were there from 10 Dec - 7 Jan also renting from Mad Camper too. Our trip was in reverse as we picked the van up in Christchurch and dropped off in Aukland. We had a two seater/sleeper van which looks as though it was an easier set up than the single version. We sooo loved travelling around NZ although had to revise some of our journeys due to roads being closed due to earlier storms. This was a trip of a lifetime but would love to repeat it in the not too distant future.

    Should you come out again, get an Atlas, as I suspect Google maps, hasn't been over a lot of the more 'attention needed' roads - the attention, is due to the road width & oncoming traffic, plus, what's at the roadside - clifs, up, & down, or just plain country lane type.

    • @Vandemonium
      @Vandemonium  4 года назад +1

      It used to be quite rare in the UK, typically only high end executive cars were auto and most drivers would sneer at it. These days it's definitely becoming more commonplace and less of a thing to laugh at although the majority of UK cars are still manual. Of course, once we're all electric in a few years it'll be a moot point.

    Nice van.... My Fiat Uno is about... 6 times smaller! But I have 2 front seats... a similar size bed... a floor to hang my feet down from the bed... Much more space as a Uno is larger inside than the outside... Much larger cooling space for cold stuff... milk can stand upright... AND with a 1100 cc motor beat the fuel pumps! To be honest... my Uno is as big inside as your Narrowboat... BUT 20 times smaller on the outside! Park your van next to a Uno, take a photo and then watch my videos.

    Wait for it just a second, please. I'm going to make myself a cup of tea first.

    It's a shame that your lifetime trip ended the way it did! But at least there's a great story you can tell your grandchildren ... 🙂
