The Three Musketeers I remember being the first book I couldn't put down. Most recently Blood Meridian has really reignited my interest in books. Also True Hallucinations by Terence McKenna is a killer work of non fiction
@@hamcheesecola Right on! Haven’t heard of True Hallucinations, I will need to check it out. Need to up my nonfiction game here. Thanks for the comment Layne!
The Road is such a moving story of a gruesome journey encountering the duality of humanity. Definitely worth a read to anyone considering. When I decided to read for fun again after college I re-read some of my favorite books from my young teen years- The Giver & To Kill a Mockingbird!
I never read the first 3 Potter books started with book 4 and never went back even though I have them all on my shelf, always fascinates me that the title is different in the UK (Philosopher's Stone over here). I am hoping to read Red Rising as a buddy read this year. Certainly a good and varied selection to get you into reading!
@@vens_corner the UK book covers are also superior in my opinion! You guys get all the cool stuff. Red rising will not disappoint, I may reread it when Red God comes out here in the next year or so. Thanks for checkin out the channel!
Another great video from you! I can't name one book that got me reading, as I have been reading continuously since I was a child and throughout my youth. Sometimes more and sometimes less, but I always had a book on my bedside table. Red Rising is also on my shelf and is patiently waiting for me to read it this year. This will be my first time with science fiction. I'm very excited. I've put The Song of Achilles on my wish list now, you've made me curious about the quote. And Harry Potter! Classic. I want to read them in English for the first time this year, as that's the only way I own them... They've been on my wish list in German (my mother tongue) for years. Best regards
@@CharlieCatHimself13 hey Charlie, starting to become a regular here. Thank you for the kind words! Red Rising and The Song of Achilles are both fantastic. The book that got me back into reading (at 23) was Gone Girl. Absolutely loved it. Gillian Flynn is still one of my favorites 17 books later. Sharp Objects is also amazing if you like Gone Girl. Circe was one of my favorites of the year and I’m super excited to read Song of Achilles next.
Jealous that you get to read Song of Achilles for the first time! It is awesome. I will have to check out Gone Girl and Sharp Objects, thanks for the recs! I appreciate the comment here
Great video! Nice list!! I listened to the first Harry Potter on audiobook but was uninterested and didn’t pick up #2. I DNF’d Song of Achilles. Personally, I thought it was terrible. I have The Road but haven’t read it yet. I’m a big fan of thrillers and crime fiction so some of my disinterest could be genre preference related. The books that got me into reading were Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, the Camel Club series by David Baldacci, and the Reacher series by Lee Child.
Understandable for sure! Definitely give The Road a shot, sounds a bit more your tastes as opposed to some of my selections. Now, my thinking as to why I liked the Song of Achilles and Harry Potter may be that I did not know any better so I just thought it was all good. My tastes have changed since then, I like more classical books and ones that give me a new perspective into someone elses life story. I appreciate the comment and respectful discourse nonetheless, this is what its all about!
@ Absolutely, good sir. I still truly think that HP is a classic and one of the best fantasy series, or even book series in general, out there, even though I didn’t enjoy it. Its popularity is undeniable. One of my favorite authors, Robin Cook, finds himself on a lot of BookTubers’ “worst books” or “lowest ratings of the year/month” videos. People are different and I think it makes BookTube more fun. I’m really looking forward to The Road. I also have an abridged version of the Count of Monte Cristo (got it for free) that I hope to get to this year. Just be open and honest about what you like and don’t like. Like you said, respectful discourse makes BT better, whether it’s agreement or disagreement. I am really enjoying your book selections and your videos and am glad you joined BT. Keep it up!👍

Could not agree more! And those are some good reads for sure, equally as moving I would say at times.

@BookswithSam1 yeah cover differences are another thing that i find curious. It makes me wonder why 🤔
@ the rabbit hole of all the various Harry Potter covers by country I think is fascinating. Indonesia has a cool cover set I believe
@BookswithSam1 well thats me off to Google for the rest of the day 🤣
