I’ve never seen this game before, but experience with other roguelikes tells me that when you have too much food, that is your chance to wait a bunch and heal. Health regens over time, and food is just the mechanic to force you not to heal after every single battle. I hope this, even though it’s fairly obvious, is the type of non-spoiler you are looking for.
Hoo boy. Good luck to you, DC. I tried this once on a Genesis Collection game. I learned regret. Then forgot it and tried again. I don't learn my lessons well.
Oh man I love this game! It's great to see someone finally covering this! You never fail to disappoint with your content DC. Keep up the good work, and suffer for us all!
I loved this game growing up, though it might have been Stockholm Syndrome. Some attempts at non-spoilery help: The Elemental rings you find are just for throwing. They do nothing when worn, despite the message that you feel better. Weapons with the same name are always cursed or not. There's no random curses, so if you find a weapon that's safe, it'll always be safe. There's a relatively small number of level layouts. If you feel stuck, try searching suspicious walls for hidden passages. You can eat to death. Food parcels have a random amount of food between 10 and 40. If you go over 100, you just suddenly die. Gold's only purpose is giving you a better funeral. Don't risk your life over it, unless you feel like it. I think these are fine hints, there's a lot more i could give, but I'll hold off for now. Happy to see you playing this... "classic".
"You can eat to death. Food parcels have a random amount of food between 10 and 40. If you go over 100, you just suddenly die." That's something I learned the hard way. I just assumed my character was carrying the food, not stuffing it into his gullet on the spot.
there are three types of melee weapons: axes have high damage but low accuracy, spears have low damage but high accuracy, and swords have medium damage and accuracy. In general a sword is the best weapon type, but on the early levels an ax works too.
I grew up with this nightmare. The game of "Which curse is it going to be today". The constant fighting on later floors. The music is fantastic, but this game eats your soul! Haha. Good luck! :D
This makes me nostalgic for the older playthroughs, such as you playing Deadly Towers. Hard to imagine that was a whole 12 years ago now! Time really does fly.
And so, DC reached the high of hubris and started doing LPs blind, many scholars talk about this day as a turning point, and is taught in many classes as an example of a great empire suddenly collapsing.
PW (Power) is your attack. AR (Armor) is your defense. The higher the number the better. Power up potions increase your PW or AR stat by one. The higher your level the more food regenerates your HP by steps. If you eat to much food you will slow down as you noticed. If you have no food you will starve to death as you move.
My experience with Net-Hack tells me that if you eat too much eventually you will simply choke on the food and suffocate. In Net-Hack this was done to balance the fact that some monster corpses could be eaten for stats, here I think it is just to spite the player.
At least you got a cairn rather than your body just being tossed into a ditch? The only other thing I can really say is the time-honored "run back to the hallway if there's more than one enemy and fight them one at a time" advice for rogue-likes in general.
the Lightning Ring is for throwing at the enemy beware, for one color of ring is cursed and will prevent healing I think I'll hold off on letting you know how to use an exploit to break the game in your favor for now
Is a hard game with surprises and danger in every corner(literally).I did finished but it wasn't easy.A difficult but a great game in my opinion, you just need to know what the items do and get used to the game gameplay.
Beat it on my third try (first was a death spawn room where I started literally surrounded, second I ate too much and died). One death in that run. I've since beaten it countless times without dying. As far as _actual_ roguelikes go, this one is both forgiving (curses end, nearly all rings are beneficial, scrolls rarely hurt you etc), and short. More often than not, when you finish your objective in a roguelike, you also have to get back out. Not paying for continues just makes it a foregone conclusion, really.
You asked for non spoiler suggestions, yes? Then here is your suggestion: Kill a few easy enemies to level up, grab as much equipment as you can, then book it to the 5th floor. don't worry about killing things, just run so you will get the option to leave, appraise your stuff, and equip yourself for your next go through. repeate untill you are one-shotting enemies on the first 5 floors, then proceed up for better loot and higher EXP.
It looks like this game has attacks of opportunity (the snail that killed you appeared to have gotten one.) If you're one square away from something, don't move to it, as it will get a free attack. Wait one turn and let it move to you instead.
So his walk cycle animation kinda reminds me of a pre curser to the Naruto run. Just imagine Naruto walking everywhere now, it would be great. Do it DC.
Never heard of this game but wow, that soundtrack! Ever heard of Greendog for the Genesis and would you ever consider doing an LP of it? That game is super nostalgic for me.
I remember someone pointing out the nice title screen music of this game to me in the past, but had never seen any actual gameplay of it before now. Yeah, totally looks like a Mystery Dungeon game alright. And, it seems your sluggish overfed hero and his inaccurate axe met a terrible fate here...
I have ... zero idea about what's in this game, but is there a time limit on floors or anything? Maybe you can wait and heal up or digest food if your stomach is full before proceeding into further areas?
If you walk up and down you will heal. So if you have eaten to much just walk up and down to heal and lose weight. You don't have to clear all the map and beat all enemies. Sometimes its better just to go up.
Huh, interesting. Certainly is using a common style for Sega's 16 bit era. Curious to what it's failings would bem I would suspect the usual bevy of issues common to the console based rogue-likes of this era. I like how the not-quite-Red-Arremer looks at the layer, like he knows you're doomed. O_o
I THINK the lightning ring was healing you over time? that or that's what eating does. I am unfamiliar with this game, largely...think I have it on the Ultimate Genesis Collection on PS3, but I AM good at theory-crafting, so there's that. also seems like a good idea to stick with swords from the beginning for more consistent damage unless you get something that can raise accuracy. Don't get me wrong, I am as much of a proponent of beefy spike damage numbers as much as the next guy, just early game consistency couldn't hurt.
Axes actually tend to be best early, while enemies do small damage numbers. Swords become the best soon, but axes early is not a bad idea. Spears are also not a bad option against enemies that dodge more like snails and bats, but spears are also not super common early for some reason.
You heal over time naturally. Having a limited supply of food keeps you from being able to abuse that too much, but food was pretty plentiful in the first two floors, it seems. DC could have waited out his over-fullness while healing up at the same time.
"Should I use the ring without knowing what it does? This seems like a bad idea..." ~ Bilbo Baggins
Nice gameplay i can't wait to watch more of this lets play.
This labyrinth is so fatal it rendered the crab deceased.

Hoo boy. Good luck to you, DC. I tried this once on a Genesis Collection game. I learned regret. Then forgot it and tried again. I don't learn my lessons well.
I forgot this game existed. This is going to be good.
Love your let's plays, DC. You're awesome.
This seems like it will be interesting. Watching you play older games has always been entertaining!
Oh. A classic rogue-like.
Looking forward to more! Don’t give up!
DC playing an ancient rouge-like sounds like a fun time.
I hope his sanity holds out till the end.
Only time will tell.
Game is a lot of things, but red isn't one of them. It's certainly not "red-like," whatever that's supposed to mean.
I remember playing this a tiny child, and not really understanding what was going on. I'm glad you decided to play this, it'll be fun to watch!
Oh man I love this game! It's great to see someone finally covering this! You never fail to disappoint with your content DC. Keep up the good work, and suffer for us all!
Local man breaks into wizard fraternity house, gorges himself, and dies to a snail. Story at eleven.
I loved this game growing up, though it might have been Stockholm Syndrome.

Oh my god what have I gotten myself into.
@@DeceasedCrab > A fatal labyrinth, it seems.
"Gold's only purpose is giving you a better funeral" ...This is just hilarious! I've seen my share of roguelikes, but none had something like this
I really want to see the different levels of funerals now.
"You can eat to death. Food parcels have a random amount of food between 10 and 40. If you go over 100, you just suddenly die."
That's something I learned the hard way. I just assumed my character was carrying the food, not stuffing it into his gullet on the spot.
Great fun. My favorite roguelike from this era is probably Shiren the Wanderer for SNES.
there are three types of melee weapons: axes have high damage but low accuracy, spears have low damage but high accuracy, and swords have medium damage and accuracy. In general a sword is the best weapon type, but on the early levels an ax works too.
This game has a soft spot in my heart for being related to Dragon Crystal on the Game Gear. I do love me some mystery dungeons.
It's even closer related to dungeon crystal on the SMS.
A rogue like from 91? Well, this is going to be a ride.
I grew up with this nightmare. The game of "Which curse is it going to be today". The constant fighting on later floors. The music is fantastic, but this game eats your soul! Haha. Good luck! :D
Don't play dragon crystal, if you think the one in fifty cursed items here is bad. You'll never make it.
More like a return to form, for truly DC bit it off too big when he decided to LP an old game called La-Mulana.
And I love every minute of it.
Oh god, I played this so much when I was a kid... only way I ever even saw the ending was via Game Genie. This game is BRUTAL.
Man, that Final Fantasy save crystal was beating you senseless!
Final Labyrinth, I remember this game.
My experience with Net-Hack tells me that if you eat too much eventually you will simply choke on the food and suffocate. In Net-Hack this was done to balance the fact that some monster corpses could be eaten for stats, here I think it is just to spite the player.
I am happy that you are trying to hurt the wizard whenever you see him.
Meleeing a snail when you yourself move at a snail's pace was your undoing!
Oh my god that's not THIS game is it?
Oh boy this is going to be a TREAT. I haven't played this in ages.
Wow, Fatal Labyrinth. That level music is forever burned into my memory. I first played this on the Sega Channel! XD
It's Mr. DC!! 😃 Been too long since I enjoyed your content. I still giggle at the Crumbling Centurion rant...
At least you got a cairn rather than your body just being tossed into a ditch? The only other thing I can really say is the time-honored "run back to the hallway if there's more than one enemy and fight them one at a time" advice for rogue-likes in general.

This is actually one of my favorite games from the Genesis, and even I haven't beaten it! I really need to get on that again.
Is a hard game with surprises and danger in every corner(literally).I did finished but it wasn't easy.A difficult but a great game in my opinion, you just need to know what the items do and get used to the game gameplay.

It's like watching a much slower _Crypt of the Necrodancer._

Never played this game, but it looks awesome and brutal.
Nice music too.
A glorious glorious Mistake. Probably not as bad of one as hell temple.
Kinda reminds me of Lufia 2's Ancient Cave
I'm having Dragon Crystal nightmares right about now.
Huh. I remember seeing this at the rental place and thinking it looked pretty cool. But I was wrong about that, clearly.
It looks like this game has attacks of opportunity (the snail that killed you appeared to have gotten one.) If you're one square away from something, don't move to it, as it will get a free attack. Wait one turn and let it move to you instead.
The music is pleasant. What could go wrong? ...oh
oh, DC found another super old and janky video game I've never heard of? I love it and I'm gonna go play it now
Da Da Da Dadadadadada Da Da Da lol this is why I watch DC for years now lol.
So his walk cycle animation kinda reminds me of a pre curser to the Naruto run. Just imagine Naruto walking everywhere now, it would be great. Do it DC.

I personally just did the bow glitch to make it easier on me.
I have ... zero idea about what's in this game, but is there a time limit on floors or anything? Maybe you can wait and heal up or digest food if your stomach is full before proceeding into further areas?
Wait, I didn't know SNK made a Rouge like? Fatal Labyrinth, man
Oh DC! What evil you have brought upon yourself!
If you walk up and down you will heal. So if you have eaten to much just walk up and down to heal and lose weight. You don't have to clear all the map and beat all enemies. Sometimes its better just to go up.
He said pressing the A button makes time pass, so I suppose he can just use that to 'rest' instead of moving
this game actually has 31 levels not 30
Ice ice baby.
This game, like many Rougelikes, can be heavily RNG based. Hopefully, it’s not too mean to you.
Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe this is your first blind LP.
Ah easy pick... this game doesn’t even require a randomizer 😬
ah, this game... like dragon crystal on the master system but worse in every way
Been a long time since I watched a series of yours decreasedcrab. May I ask why you chose Fatal Labyrinth? Just curious.
Roguelikes are always a bad idea. Procedural generation isn't good.
You're a bad idea! You're not good!
DC, I made several suggestions for games to play, a couple of which I even thought were good, and you went with _THIS?_
Oh DC, where did I go wrong...
