My 21 son drove from Eastern Australia across the country to Perth (4260kms) in Western Australia by himself in his car, and then back a couple of months later. He stopped every now and again in NSW, South Australia and Western Australia and flew his DJI Mavic 2. The videos and photos were breath-taking in their beauty, especially those taken whilst travelling over the Nullarbor Plain.
Thank you for the reminder in the following video. I had let this slip out of mind among several unwatched items. Love the shots. The instructions will be great when I finally pull the trigger and get a drone.
Earlier this year I bought a Mavic 3 to allow me to get photos from places that my feet can't take me. Since then, I've had several opportunities to go out shooting with both my drone and my fullframe camera.....and most of the time when I come home and review the photos that I took with each, I find that the more compelling shots were taken with the drone! It seems it may have become my "primary" camera! Last month I went on vacation to Belize, which doesn't allow visitors to bring drones into the country with them, and I felt SO handcuffed! It's amazing the difference a drone can make.
Came here after your announcement in the newest Video. For me most of your videos are beautiful to watch and educational at the same time and I love that. Since I don't own a drone there was no reason for me to watch this Video from the educational point of view but I do have to say that the drone footage and the very special perspectives it gives you are very very beautiful and with your music really relaxing to watch. I think many didn't click on it because they do not own a drone themselves but this video is made very professionally and is just a thing I guess most of your viewers aren't used to. Would love to see more though since I play with the thought of buying a drone for a while now!
Even though I don't have a drone, I do love the perspective that images taken with them give the viewer. Here in Australia, a landscape photographer (Glenn Mckimmin) dose his arial photography using either a helicopter of fixed wing plain. His images of Sydney and Lake Eyre are stunning. Taken with a Fuji GFX100s hanging out of a plane sich I think would be very interesting and somewhat scary. The results are magnificent, as are your airial drone images. The care and attention to detail composing with a remote monitor is a definite skill in itself. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and images Mads!
Hi Mads! They ARE incredible photos. I don't have a drone but courtesy of your skilful use of one, I have access to the amazing colours and patterns that nature produces. Thank you!
Thank you Mads, it seems these days no matter who you show your photos to , they always seem to rave about the aerial shots. Drones are a really great tool for photographers. Great video.
thanks for this and every video, they are such a good combination of stunning photography and great explanation and your enthusiasm is such fun to watch.
Really helpful video thank you. I have a drone and do not use it enough. This has given me the push I needed to get back out there. trip to Scotland coming up. Perfect....
Mads, that shot of the flow that looks like a tree in Forrest is amazing. I saw the tree and Forrest before you said it as it's so striking. Got to get my drone out more.
As a long time fan of your inspiring videos (starting with your location videos from Iceland) it was a true pleasure to see this video and get even more inspired. Great work!
Mads, your shot of the lava lake and the pattern formed by the lave 'tiles' is spectacular! I can only dream of capturing something that dramatic one day!
Great video Mads, and you are fortunate to have some stunning scenery where you live. I switched over to drone photography a couple of years ago and currently have the dji Air 2s and RC pro controller. I brought it mainly for photography, and I don’t use it as much for video work. The 1” sensor is good on the drone, but the aperture is fixed at f2.8, so has a few limitations. But there again, the compromise was on the size and weight of the drone as I don’t want to lug a big drone around with me as well as other camera gear. But although I have the qualifications, I prefer flying it away from people in the wilds, where it doesn’t bother people. It has changed my concept of photography and I would recommend to anyone thinking about it, to take a leap of faith and try it out. If you are still unsure, then I would reach out to someone you know that has one and see if you can go out with them to get a better idea before committing a bunch of money for a drone that might end up on a shelf unused, if it’s not for you.
wowwww, these drone takes are awsome, I don't have one, here we do have quite a bit of regulations to travel with them out of the country or into the country, so I refrained to spend on one , but I do love these kind of footage! Thank you Peter! Best from Uruguay.
After trekking for half an hour with limited time along an unknown slightly muddy track to search for a vantage point in which to take some camera shots of a beautiful mountain bathed in gorgeous morning sunlight that I could only catch glimpses of through trees as I was driving along a road only to find myself surrounded by a forest of tall trees and no clear shot of the mountain I reached for the M3 and shot my most epic manual 18 frame panorama using 7x zoom. I never leave on a shoot without my drone when it comes down to getting the shot or not getting the shot a drone can sometimes be the only option.
The Drone footage is fascinating and your photos are mesmerizing. Actually, the rivers and tributaries are reminiscent of the circulatory system. It would be exciting to use a drone to take photos, one day. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
I love your videos Mads. You are passionate and very calm at the same time, making them very easy to watch. :) thank you very much for your work. I fly a drone, I have the Mavic Pro 2 and a Mini Pro 3 :)
I recently bought a DJI mini pro 3 drone and have been watching several tips&tricks videos but I didn’t see your excellent video pop-up… it was via your other videos that I found this one. Anyways, congratulations on your excellent work and your thank you for sharing your work methods & tips!
What a wonderful collection of drone images Mads, simply stunning. How easy was it to obtain your permit for flying in the highlands, can you do it online or does it have to be done when you are in Iceland?
I don’t have a drone but I appreciate the potential for marvellous images, like these in this video. My favourite is the same as yours! I often go out with my non-drone cameras with a friend who is a professional who uses drones. Her name is Fiona Lake. She is away presenting a workshop but I will share your video with her when she returns. 🙂
Thank you Mad for this nice video. I just get my first drone Dji Mini 3 Pro and I love take pictures with it the problem is that now in a lot of place there restrictions for fly is it the same in Danemark, I go for a trip in your country in October ?
Thanks so much Mads, your video is just what I needed. I have had my DJI Air 2S for a year now and never really considered it seriously for photography up until about a month ago. Your tips are great and they have inspired me even more to get out and take photos. The only downfall with the Air 2S is you can’t change aperture settings but that is okay. I am lucky enough to be going to Iceland at the start of November and am so excited to try out your tips and hopefully take some amazing photos with my drone.
Really interesting. I Think a video on how you organize your Photo trips would have great success; how you choose locations, how you check weather conditions, how you check if you can Flight your drone, il you needs permits to do it and how you ask those permits. Thank you
Another fantastic video! I also have been using a drone for a few years, starting with a Spark which I thought did a great job for the money, to a Mavic pro 2 which is I think is still the best package out there. For me the drone has to give the viewer something different. Something they have never seen before. They are also brilliant for getting that awkward composition, you know the one, where you need to be a little higher or walk on water. I think your photos (and the way you say photos) are great, that's because they are original. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for these beautiful pictures. am currently in Iceland and brought my new purchase: the Dji mini pro 3. When I see these images, I wonder what altitude you are flying at?. My gondola got stuck yesterday at Westrahorn and suddenly I can't fly anymore
Awesome tutorial with beautiful examples! I was recently in the Faroe Islands and it was scary flying the drone in some of those winds! Especially in Kalsoy when I had to fly out so far to fit the island into the drone lens!
Mads, Great video! I was one of the viewers that chose “not to watch” this video because it was about drones. But, in your last video, you made the appeal to give it a try. I am glad I did! Now inspired to try and get a drone as part of my gear as well. Well done! Thanks and as always, keep snapping! PS, I made the same decision regarding Nigel’s drone video. I will now go back and give his a view as well…😊
I'm doing a lot of drone photography and to be able to produce images that can be printed out very large I'm playing around with Gigapixel AI which allows for up to 6x image enlargement with no loss of quality. So far it's impressive.
Thanks for sharing Mads Peter, I've been flying my Mavic Pro since early 2017 now and use many of your tips. Although I started using it for video mostly at start, I have been using it for photos mostly now. I sometimes also make multi-row panorama's to get some extra high panorama's and always shoot 5 AEB Raw photo's. The Netherlands is terrible for drone flying because of the many (sometimes multi-overlapping) nofly zones....
Having recently purchased a new drone, I thought to revisit this video. Compositionally, I am fine, but am struggling with the settings as I need time to read the manual fully. Great video Mads.
This was super helpful! I'm off to Iceland in November and I hope to practice some of the techniques I've received from your composition books and videos! I also hope to put together a good itinerary using your Google Map! I went last year but didn't have a plan and due to a terrible car rental, lots of rain, and a lack of a real plan I didn't get many photos!
MP2 pro also - a brilliant drone until its low light. Different perspective and often impossible photos can be achieved once airborn. RAW and only ever RAW :)
Catching up on your vids Mads and this is a great one for me as I'm a relative novice as far as drones go. Got a Mavic Mini2. I love the different pov it gives. I don't like to fly it if there are other Togs around though, too 'self-conscious' as 1. I'm not an expert flyer and 2. I do feel they can be noisy and distracting for others. I know I hate having someones drone fly into my shot!
Love all the options a drone provides, it often saves the day when there is great light but I can't find a composition from the ground. But it is like going back in time with editing due to the dynamic range limitations...and I wish DJI would make the AEB interval greater than 2/3 a stop.
Great video as always, thanks! I love drone landscape photography and I always take a drone along. I has produced some stunning images over the years that I would not have been able to capture without a drone. Before we had modern compact drones with decent cameras I would often take photos from light aircraft but there are many limits, not the least is having to fly the plane while half hanging out the door to take a photo. Often really scaring my passengers in the process!
I don't see any reason to be, as as matter of principle, for or against drones. The way I see them, they are "just" another tool photographers can use in their trade. The more important question is how to use them, and what (if any) restrictions are placed on their use by the authorities. Also important is how each individual photographer uses his drone: they can be used to irritate others without getting discovered, in a way that few (if any) other photographical tools can. I tend to use my drone for almost as much location scouting as for actual photography/videography: the drone can travel faster than I can to many locations, potentially saving me several hours of gruelling hiking in difficult terrain.
Really good vlog thank you. I have a Mavic Pro 2 and 99% of the use is for photography (yes video is great but I have no need for it) As you say it is a game changer for different compositions especially for me living in the English Lake District. The way I shoot most people are not even fully aware it is a drone and I'm often asked what Fell I was standing on to get a particular composition. I think one reason some photographers don't like drones is the short amount of time you have to compose a shot.
Pretty cool video, Mads. Do you use any app to support your drone photography? I use, for instance, UAV Forecast to get an overview of flying conditions (temperature, visibility, satellites, KP index, wind speed, etc). I consider this one super helpful!
Not really no, I don't feel I ever needed them. I do have the one for where I'm allowed to fly in Denmark, but I usually just check it on the desktop before going.
Thanks for this video, I was just starting to think that I should shoot more with my drone and your video came up. I guess that I should take that as a sign :) But I live in Varberg, Sweden (west coast).. Finding intressting stuff to shoot here with a drone is hard, do u have any tips? We both live in "flatt countrys" :)
14:15 to that point, file enlarging software has come such a long way. Yes, it's digital enhancement, but if/when you need it, it's a great tool to utilize. There's free options online &/or if anyone has Adobe Lr/Ps, you have it available to use already. So don't be afraid to crop in/lose MPs.
Really surprised this drone video wasn't rated higher as you have recently mentioned . It was a fantastic piece of work, not just photographically but the videography itself was just stunning. Well done !!
Do you need a permit to fly over the glacial rivers in iceland? Going to iceland in a few weeks, and shooting glacial rivers is high on my what to shoot list
It depends where you fly. You need a permit for the national parks and sadly you have to be awfully specific about where and for how long and at what time you fly to get those permits. Outside of the national parks you should just follow the regular rules.
@@MadsPeterIversen Hey Mads, are permits required for even flying a drone like DJI Mini 3 (less than 250 gms) in the National Park Area? Can you please share some of the famous Tourist spots along the Iceland Ring Road where its mandatory to have permission for flying a DJI Mini 3 Drone. I'm worried I would end up paying a hefty fine if I fly in one of those spots as I dont have a permit .
The trouble with Drone Flying in the UK is that it has become very restricted. You can't fly in the National Parks or National Trust which is a good hunk of our coast line.
I don't own a drone. They're not legal in the areas where I mostly shoot, due to the proximity of airports. I wish I had one, though. I don't get the controversy. What's a drone in photography but a really tall tripod?
My 21 son drove from Eastern Australia across the country to Perth (4260kms) in Western Australia by himself in his car, and then back a couple of months later. I have been to Iceland 5 times. Going again in a week. I love it there. These images are amazing.
This video is so inspiring and answered all my questions regarding drone photography!

I very much like your Glacier river patterns. There is a similarity to Georgia O'Keeffe paintings.
Thanks for your creative imagination.
Alex
Love the glacier photos!
Meds, awesome comprehensive tutorial on drone photography. Stunning videos, and stills !!
Has to be one of the best you have produced Mads , the images are just mind blowing 🤯🤯👀👀
Thank you so much, Dave! That means a lot. Put a lot of effort into it. Sadly it's basically the worst performing video I've made in years... 😭
Even though I don't have a drone, I do love the perspective that images taken with them give the viewer. Some really great tips here. Thank you!
I love these photos of the river - in fact, I just bought one! Looking forward to having this in my living room.
Thank you so, so much, Kevin! I really appreciate it ☺️

Very nice video. With beautyful photography.
Incredible photos Mads!
Glad you came back to Iceland!
thanks for this and every video, they are such a good combination of stunning photography and great explanation and your enthusiasm is such fun to watch.
Thank you, Martin! That's a very kind comment ☺️
I love drone photos… Plan to buy one too thanks for this video Mads.
This makes me want to get a drone. Well done, sir. Great video with a lot of tips.
Altid en fornøjelse at se dine videoer Mads!

Beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing. I LOVE my drown and use it to take photos i Sweden.
Amazing video. Thanks for sharing!
I don’t own a drone, but the footage you filmed is amazing! I look forward to all your videos. Thank you.
Those were some epic shots! I would love to fly and shoot with a drone!
Mads, Thanks for another ‘epic’ video. Inspirational! Time to take the drone out for a shoot.
Beautiful images! Kudos!
Just incredible
Awesome video Mads!....more drone related content would be much appreciated!
Mads, your shot of the lava lake and the pattern formed by the lave 'tiles' is spectacular! I can only dream of capturing something that dramatic one day!
One of my favorite videos, Mads!
😮❤Your work is stunning and inspiring! I don’t have a drone, but find lots of useful info here. Thank you!
Incredible images Mads 👌
So many great tips and just a beautiful shots to go with the lesson! Can’t wait to implement on my next flight!
wowwww, these drone takes are awsome, I don't have one, here we do have quite a bit of regulations to travel with them out of the country or into the country, so I refrained to spend on one , but I do love these kind of footage! Thank you Peter! Best from Uruguay.
Amazing shots!
This is such an incredible and interesting video, loaded with a LOT of information! Just fascinating!! Thanks!!
Fantastic piece of work! Thank you for putting this together, there was a ton in here for me to implement in my drone photography.
Wow, the pictures of the washes were absolutely beautiful and stunning! Congratulations on these 👏

I often wonder how high up your and other landscape photographers drone shots are from. I know where I live there a 400ft ceiling for unregistered

Love all the options a drone provides, it often saves the day when there is great light but I can't find a composition from the ground. But it is like going back in time with editing due to the dynamic range limitations...and I wish DJI would make the AEB interval greater than 2/3 a stop.
The Litchi app apparently allows you to manually set an interview between 0.3 and 2.0
Have you been reading my mind? Currently saving up for a drone!
Great video as always, thanks!
I love drone landscape photography and I always take a drone along. I has produced some stunning images over the years that I would not have been able to capture without a drone. Yeah, it can definitely be a challenge to choose the right time to fly ;)
Never been much into drone photography. This will def give a good introduction overview I guess.
I hope it did :)

It depends where you fly. You need a permit for the national parks and sadly you have to be awfully specific about where and for how long and at what time you fly to get those permits. Outside of the national parks you should just follow the regular rules.
@@MadsPeterIversen thx for the reply. I'll just stick to flying in areas where I don't need a permit. Getting a permit sounds like a disaster
I'm OK at flying but crap at taking photos. I often forget to even take them. I just need to remember and take these tips on board
The trouble with Drone Flying in the UK is that it has become very restricted. You can't fly in the National Parks or National Trust which is a good hunk of our coast line.
I'd check that. You can, for example, fly in the Lake District national park.
Thanks for that.
I don't own a drone. They're not legal in the areas where I mostly shoot, due to the proximity of airports. I wish I had one, though. I don't get the controversy. What's a drone in photography but a really tall tripod?
A moving tripod 😂
