- Let's play Ultimate General: Civil War! The Battle of Gettysburg was a three-day battle in the American Civil War fought between Union and Confederate forces between July 1 and July 3, 1863, in and around Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The battle, which was won by the Union, is widely considered the Civil War's turning point, ending the Confederacy's aspirations to establish an independent nation. It was the Civil War's bloodiest battle, claiming over 50,000 combined casualties over three days.

In this campaign I'll be playing the Union and trying to restore the United States of America during the US civil war. This is one of my favourite periods of history and Ultimate General is a very good wargame. Leave a comment with your name if you'd like to have one of my brigades named after you.

I visited the battlefield as a kid with my dad. Highly reccomend. You can really feel how suicidal pickets charge was when you stand on the ground
Has the battlefield changed much? Many of our historic sites now have roads and motorways built right across them.
The entire town is a protected historic site so it's pretty much as it was. Obviously things have been modernized with electricity and paved roads but it's very well preserved. It's how they were able to film the movie on location without having to change anything

Looking forward to watching this tomorrow as I can't tonight (yes it's night out here west coast USA haha). Mark if you haven't been you need to go to Gettysburg itself. It's like it was. I walked across the field of pickets charge, spent time on little round top and devils den etc. it's an amazing bit of military history in a place
I'd love to visit some day. In fact it would be great to check out the northeast US as I've never been to that part.
interesting how differently we played this I held the river area like you for the first bit and I used the first reinforcements to hold the ridge but when the second reinforcements arrived I had them advance perpendicular to the ridge on the river side and sweep up on the rebel flanks
That sounds like a pretty good tactic.

Great day 1! Buford's men were heroes and sacrificed basically all their units to the fight to allow the reinforcements to make a difference. Once again great placement of your troops was instrumental. Looking forward to the rest of the battle!
Those cavalrymen certainly held up the Rebel advance one way or another.
@@MarkGFLLetsPlays if you don't need to rebuild those units with your resources you might as well use every man up
