    Nice win!! I was wondering where the wolverine brigade was till I saw them guarding the flag on day3. Bring lots of 20 pdrs to bayou fourche if you wait to attack you can draw out his artillery, obliterate them, then move forward(advancing from the northern most crossing). Chickumuaga I would recommend defense only.. day 2 starts do not advance any further than the starting location. Set up a nice line with inf. and artillery and wait for him to attack. When the battlefield opens do the same thing just defend and hold the victory points while staying in cover and blasting him with artillery. You have 10 hours on day 3 to wipe him out. It is a little boring because it takes him awhile to attack but on day 3 he will not disappoint you.

    Same complaint I had with G Gettysburg. He doesn't let you fight the entire fishhook, which denies you the tactical use of historical interior lines.

    It was all those plus the fact that the Confederacy was running out of time and Lee knew that, he needed a major change in the Strategic situation and Lee was at heart a gambler. He trusted Providence to deliver him from his plight, but Providence wasn't on his side. The Chancellorsville attack was just as much a roll of the dice as the Gettysburg campaign.

    first suggestion don't let him take big round top sit some infantry there... he will relentlessly try to take it and your units will sit in 90+ cover in the woods. hold ground with 4 units of infantry stacked 2 on top each other. use skirmishers to flank and send all arty to little round top area tehy will rain death down on the ai... the ai is programed to head to little round top not the other vp. leave 2 skirmishers there with 1 main unit. reinforcements will arrive to strengthen that area later...

      @@pandakraut8594 ya and you only need about 10 full infantry units for the whole map the rest you can make arty and one or two snipers and the more smooth bore you have the more the units get depleted! when i went into day three they had 4500 men in thier army over about 9 ish units lol made for a very easy victory!

    Well that was bloody but fun to watch. Mental note to self . . . don't enlist in the History Guy cavalry! And poor Scott got forgotten on little round top and totally destroyed.
    It's a little worrying about the number of casualties you are taking and your overall army size is kind of small. It feels like my MG campaign I just finished, I was in a similar place and really had to step up my game to get through to the end.
    Great lets play and the historical commentary is fantastic. Good luck

    • @janis317

      There is a huge difference between MG and Legendary. HG has to keep his army smallish to get the best ratio's possible.

    The prepared positions at Gettysburg are not good for infantry units, except when in melee, and I recommend staying out of them. The prepared positions are fine for detached skirmishers.
    - 4th & 5th Corps can participate in the battle, but there is a specific moment when we must assign 4th and 5th Corps on the map. If the player doesn't notice the extra slot on the map at that moment, then there is not another opportunity.
    - The best tactic at Little Round Top is to occupy Big Round Top. This makes the battle easy. The tactic at Culp's Hill is to get out of the prepared positions and catch the enemy in the water.

    • @nordstern2664
      @nordstern2664 4 месяца назад +2

      To get out of prepared positions and catch the enemy elsewere is most of the times a good idea. Because in most trenches they shot less often (or lesser mass). So that trenches can be charged more easily than positioned troops. Some trenches have meelebonuses yes, but if their are more enemy units arround an fire into the meele, they will inflict you more damage then out of position and no meele. Often the trench-parts are also bigger than normal positions, so in normal open position you can field 2-3 times the men... if you have them.

    • @SomethingCompass

      @@nordstern2664
      This is exactly right. I consider most prepared positions to be death traps for my infantry, and I stay out of them, unless I know for a fact that a specific one is good. And most of the (few) good ones are in the end-game.

  • @nordstern2664
    @nordstern2664 4 месяца назад

    Why do you not use skirmishers at all? You create ones from normal infantry but use no pure skirmishers. I use 2-3 of them per corps. They can attack enemy artillery in the backline or spot them, get lesser damage against mass-salves. And they are good in trenches as bullet-basket with infantry behind if meele comes. They are also faster then infantry and can reposition faster.
    I do not like cavalry. They have their moments, but overall my casulties with cavalry is much higher than all other troops. So its expensive to use them and the "give up"-System is not great... so i do not see their worth. I have seen Cavalry with Lemat-Sabres (136 meele) lose and flee against a fleeing skirmish unit.
    They have their role. But for me they are to expensive and to situational to use them. Most of the times its better to use skirmishers instead of cavalry. PoW are great... but to unpredictable to get to use cavalry for this. Even the battle were i rush as csa for the union support, i use the AI-cavalry to get them bevore they can hide. and cover their way to me with my infantry and artillery. Their was no battle in the game were i though: cavalry would be nice.

  • @nordstern2664

    I love this game. It has mechanics and style the current game of the developer can no more reach. But i do not like their strickt historical line for this. So as CSA you can not play Day 2 or 3 in Gettysburg.
    And also the spawn-system of the battles. If the enemy loses to many troops in the first day/stage, it will never compansate this. In Gettysburg this means that for example picketts charge is a joke. And this effects all great battles. So i like some "small" battles more than the huge ones. Because of this system.

    6:20 I know this video is three years old, but I have to chime in about the stupid fortifications and being flanked. Its frigging ridiculous.
    Been playing this again with the UI/AI mod and I turned off enemy scaling. It almost feels like cheating....lol, almost.
    Even with it off, still getting flanked for no reason, getting multiple insane charges.
    Basically if you spot the AI doubling or tripling up anywhere with rows...try to do the same because double and triple charges incoming...

  • @ErikaWeiss633

    Also, about the cavalry, another piece of advice for anything really: Don't play to your weaknesses, play to your strengths. For me, my weakness is cavalry, so I don't even bother with cav because I'm just gonna bleed myself and lose them. Instead, use clever positioning and skirmishers to fill some of that niche if you need fast units to quick re-positioning.

    Yes, Hood did lose the use of one of his arms. As for losing a leg, yes, he was wounded again at Chickamauga, and it necessitated the amputation of his right leg. Also, I loved that your 2nd Corps showed up right when Law thought he was about to swoop in behind you and basically win it. Sorry Law, LOL!

    Culps Hill was fought earlier in the day, the attacks were planned to be coordinated but Longstreet was delayed in his attack by several hours. There were also night attacks on the first and second nights of the battle on Culps Hill, so I doubt the attack launched on the late morning of the second day had much empetius to begin with.
