Ripping all of this out of my YJ was probably a mistake.

    While you have the cluster out, get some contact cleaner and clean the copper around the light sockets. if you don't have contact cleaner you can use a pencil eraser to clean/buff it believe it or not.
    Also if you use led replacement bulbs, they are polarity specific so it does matter which way you put them in socket. one way will work, and one wont so test them before you button it up.

      This from FlawedOffroad is the reason the lights don't work, I'd bet it's not your switch at all. I used hot sauce to clean mine

      The twist lock on my 94 are brittle and don’t always make a connection but the LED are huge improvements.
      My sons and I are slowly working on rebuilding ours. It’ll take years but we’ve made great memories doing it.

    Your YJ will have the AX5 trans. They are super simple to rebuild. Ive done a few. I'm on my second 92 YJ. Lost first one in a shop fire. Look into swapping the AX5 for a AX15 out the 4.0 models. You can order a bellhousing for a dodge Dakota and swap it in. Huge improvement.

    89 2.5 and i love it! Cant wait to see what you do. Im running 5.13 gears with 35s and she crawls nice.

    Just replaced the same rubber seal, on the windscreen of my 91. I wish my windscreen frame looked as good as yours. The bottom has a fair bit of rust rot.

    The brakes are supper easy, but I feel there is a bit of a learning curve with drum brakes. I just chased a brake fluid leak to the brake cylinder in the driver rear... wasn't fun haha.

      Yeah. It’s something I want to learn. I’ve watched it done but it’s is still a little out of my comfort zone. One day I’d like to be able to do it all myself.

    Dash lights for a good replacement are LED lights. Have of mine was blown out, and I replaced them with LED lights. I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler I bought new and still have the original owner's manual for it. It had 9 miles when I first got it.

      Yeah. I replaced all my dash lights in Project Emo with LEDs and I love them.

    I think it was the dimmer switch you were referring too for replacing. May I suggest also change the headlight switch if you were not planning to do so. Notorious for going bad. Looking forward to following along. I have a 95 Wrangler YJ 2.5

    The YJ glove box sure is a good time. I'm thinking it needs to be strong because of the grab handle.

    My exhaust manifold had a massive crack but did not make that ticking noise. Also the 2.5l came with 410 gearing stock. Im in the process of an engine swap for a reman 2.5.

      Yeah. I haven’t found the leak yet ( haven’t had enough time to dig into that) so I’m hoping that’s what it is. We did a reman 2.5 on my other YJ and it’s been great.

    If you use a GL5 transmission fluid it will eat the synchronizing they are made of brass you have to use a GL4 , Book calls for GL 3 but you will never find it.use redline it's best for that transmission.

      I think i took one of the screws to autozone or advanced auto parts and found matching ones there.

      That’s a good idea. I haven’t tried that. I basically got it home and got it into the garage and started taking it apart. But it should be back together soon, so I’ll try that.

    I have 93 2.5 and went through it a few years ago. Great project! I love autozone for parts as they have many lifetime warranty parts and the prices are great.

    You can run diamondplate for a new dash. cut holes and install gauges and dash. I did. cheers

    I love the wheels, not a fan of black wheels, get some aluminum wheel cleaner and wash them to get rid of the oxidation. The blue shield plastic cover over the light bulb is just a way to turn the light blue when it is lit.

      Yeah, but all things considered the different bolts and stuff isn’t such a big deal, especially since I’ll put the right ones back in so I won’t have to deal with it twice. Just hope no one gets too offended when I start looking at the wiring in the next episode. 🤣

      @@SimplyMustGo Nobody will be offended. I had it I believe a total of 2 weeks. I wish I had the time to go through it but didn't. I am glad it came to an enthusiast. I want one but I want a hard top with 6 or 8 cylinder. Until then, Im using my Land Cruiser. That diesel motor is a beast. If you run across an older jeep, 6 or 8 CJ or YJ keep me in mind. Can be a finders fee.

      @Simply Must Go ok what i got is a plait shaped like the lower part of the window hing mounts with the same bolts the then 2 peaces of 1x1 sware tubing one one peace at 4inch with one end cut at a 23° angel short end tords the plate the the other peace cut at a 22°angle and at 7 1/4 weld all that together making sure not to cover the factory bolt holes and hanging short peace hanging off the plate 1 inch the long peaces to where it angels back tords the back ov the jeep it still allows the doors to open plenty to get in and out but puts them back far enough to see with doors on just mount the swivel part of factory mirrors to the end

    If you’re near the Gulches. All you really need from the stereo is turn it to 93.3 and then break the volume knob off.

    Perhaps you 'not being OCD' could be argued😀 You cleaned the backside of the gauges!! (While the seat belt is begging for attention). But I totally understand. It's the rabbit hole of working on your own Jeep. It's fun! Plastic razor blade?? I've never heard of these. I must learn more. I'd love to meet at Gulches if you give me a heads up. I need some dirt therapy.

      Hey I cleaned the back side of my gauges while apart on my 93 also lol. Definitely a rabbit hole, one thing turns into two and so on but definitely worth the time. Also one or two jeeps to many ? Hmmm lol never, same here 93 and jku can’t wait to see how she turns out.

    Come on Matt .... brakes are so easy to do and you can learn . And get Centric parts they are the best. Watch a few youtube videos , there are just a few things to pay attention to ... easy as pie ! They will charge twice what you can do it for with the best parts and they will put in the cheapest thing they can get. !

      @@your2nd Where are you getting the conversion kit for your rear drum brakes from? I know how to change the drums , but discs are so much easier.

      The biggest thing about drum brakes is the spring, the self adjuster, and possibly having to replace the brake cylinder. Time and patience. 😮

    If you've never done brakes, then I would say take it someone like you're going to. But I will say that brakes aren't that hard to do. To me, I think it's actually easier to do brakes on the older Jeeps than the newer ones.

      @SimplyMustGo doing drum brakes is harder than doing pads only because you have springs on drum brakes. Thoese springs can fly off, and you may be looking for them for a while, lol. But they aren't too bad to do.
