  • Stoney Creek Weir Falls - Cairns hiking trails & swimming holes, Far North Queensland, filmed in 4K Widescreen cinematic.
Stoney Creek is located where the river descends from the Atherton Tablelands to the Cairns coastal plain, just a 17 minute drive from the CBD of Cairns, making it one of the easiest accessible walking trails and swimming areas.
As this hike follows the water up the mountain make sure to bring or apply mosquito spray as they can be very pesky in this area.
At the end of the short hike is the Old weir falls, a stunning small waterfall with a fresh water swimming spot, Further up the track is Stoney Creek falls where you can view the train track which leads to Kuranda.

How far/long is it to the falls from the car park? Are there many unsteady rocks on the trail? Is there a deep swimming hole at Stones Creek Falls? Or do you have to keep hiking for a decent swimming spot? I have planta fasciitis and can’t walk too far but I can walk a bit. It would be helpful if you went into a bit more detail for those with mobility issues. Nice footage otherwise.

There are several swimming holes on the way, the one at the end where the waterfall is about 2 metres deep or so. its a good 20-30 minute walk, up a small incline, not to hard. if you want an easy one try crystal cascades, paved all the way to the waterfall.

    Is it a steep climb?.

Not really! only takes about 30 minutes of a slight incline just a few mosquitos around.
