Exclusive: What happened before former Chinese President Hu Jintao was escorted out of Congress?

- Speculation has been swirling since former Chinese President Hu Jintao was escorted out from the closing session of China’s twice a decade Communist Party’s Congress on Saturday (Oct 22), which saw Mr Hu's successor, Xi Jinping secure an unprecedented third term at the helm.
CNA’s cameras captured the moments just prior to Mr Hu's departure, which took place soon after local and foreign media were allowed to enter the auditorium to cover proceedings around 11.15am. It came shortly after Chinese state media announced that delegates had elected a new Central Committee and Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, which media were not allowed into the hall to witness.
Current chairman of China's legislature Li Zhanshu is seen taking papers out of Mr Hu's hand, before a man comes to speak to him and escorts him out. READ: cna.asia/3TwGKK7
Following Mr Hu’s departure, proceedings continued with delegates voting on other items on the agenda including an amendment to the party’s constitution. Addressing the incident later that night, Chinese state media attributed the incident to health reasons. In a tweet written in English, Xinhua said that Mr Hu was “not feeling well” during the session and for his health, staff had accompanied to a room next to the meeting venue “for a rest”. Mr Hu's name was censored from Chinese social media.

Former president Hu Jintao was responsible for the economic growth of China and friendly relations with other countries. He practised collective leadership and concensus-based rule. Hu Jintao was known for technocratic competence rather than persona. Unlike Xi Jinping, he voluntarily retired from all his positions after his second term and earned praises for it. The two are worlds apart.

Xi Jinping came to office in an atmosphere of crisis. Economy slowing; straightforward Keynsianism of throwing money into the banking system yielding decreasing returns, inflationary pressures, higher debt burden; unsustainable revenue model for local governments; SOE & local government indebtedness; growing disconnect between government economic objectives and priorities of the business sector; corruption; increasingly vocal and networked dissatisfaction; chafing at PRC pretensions at the margins (Xinjiang, Tibet, Taiwan, Hong Kong); demographic issues; corruption; clear need to wean economy and employment from the easy but no longer valid export/infrastructure growth model to something more complicated; a general desire by the US, Japan, and much of the world to circumscribe the PRC’s freedom of action and its international opportunities.
Under Xi China advanced technologically (many technology successful companies in China right now), reformed & strenghtened millitary, space advances and overally he made China much much stronger ideologically and more united and patriotic. Before Xi there were GDP numbers, but they were just numbers, without facts on the ground.
Your attempts to paint Mr. Jintao as some saint is atrocious. He presided over a DICTATORSHIP, and saw literally MILLIONS of Chinese citizens be imprisoned and have their rights severely curtailed. Shame on you for gilding a Dictator as some kind of "honest" character. The ONLY person who picked Hu to be DICTATOR of China was...ANOTHER DICTATOR, one who was responsible for the Tienanmen MASSACRE, Deng Xiaoping.

Li Keqiang is a special one in the spotlight. He was part of the Communist Youth League, the faction which Hu Jintao started which opposed Jiang Zeming's Shanghai Gang. That's why Hu patted Li's shoulder as he was forced out, they were old buddies. Of course, Xi destroyed both those factions in the end and Li is now replaced as Premier. A shame really, Li seemed to actually care about how the Chinese economy was doing and even stated that the numbers published were 'man-made'

Truth is usually found somewhere between the Western and the Communist narrative. The communist narrative being the former president was feeling ill and had therefore to be escorted out is clearly debunked by any of these videos no matter how cut. So it is clear his removal was of political reasons. But will he be let to live is the question? What about the peaceful protester on Xitong bridge, will he and his parents be allowed to stay alive after raising a bloody banner?

Taking care of my Wife suffering the early onset of dementia, his actions seemed very familiar to me. Bewilderment, confusion and a touch of annoyance are all common actions when trying to explain something. Sufferer's don't take in what is said to them and often do show irritation. On the other hand, he could know what his future is now that he's been removed from the hierarchy. and it is rather scary for him.

The middle portion showed the guard tried to pull Hu out of his chair. Hardly a good way to treat an "unwell" or "ill" elder.

This link does appear to clarify the situation. It shows an earlier scene where Hu Jintao is being (gently) guided into the auditorium and to his seat. He looks quite frail and uncertain. He is definitely being shown care, including by Xi Jinping. This video clarifies.
