And that's why the Raptor is likely the greatest fighter aircraft ever made, IMHO. They perfectly merged speed, agility and stealth with that design. Ridiculous the US Air Force didn't buy more of them, the F-35 is solid for the right kind of roles, but the F-22 just has capabilities that the other struggles to give (notice how the former has to do more of a curve with turns, while the Raptor can nearly spin on a dime? That's crucial in top-notch aerial combat). If I was running the Pentagon today, I'd immediately try to restart F-22 production and give America a full strength 1-2 stealth punch.
@@hawkeyeten2450 I agree, it’s an incredible aircraft. The engines also - they had prototypes of the engine cores 30+ years ago, and still today Russia and China can’t reach the same performance, reliability, efficiency, and temperature / pressure ratios of the F119 engine - oh, and that’s all been surpassed ages ago by future designs lol. A demo pilot let us walk over to the Raptor and check it out up close at an airshow a while back (we flew an old warbird into the show) and I’ll never forget it. Wish I was there. Just this year I finally got to see the f22 while I was able to cross the f35 off the list of aircraft to see last year but being able to see both at the same airshow and same time would just destroy my mind, I probably wouldn’t be able to control my excitement and look like a crazed man
I wish they could develop a routine where the two jets do mirror-image maneuvers and follow-the-leader high-g turns and loops. Such as where they approach each other from opposite ends of the airfield, pass by each other and pull up into Immelmann’s and so forth. Sometimes mirroring the other, sometimes chasing the other. I think it would make a cool show.
That would be so cool. But realistically either they'd be going so fast you wouldn't be able to see it very well from the ground, or they'd be going so slow it'd be dangerous if something went wrong. Keep in mind that there have been many, many airshow disasters, and the hallmark of a great show is something that entertains the fans and shows the aircraft's capabilities while still remaining safe and never really pointing your aircraft at the crowd when you're on the limit. You never really know when you're gonna lose an engine or a control surface. Shit happens. Edit: Just rewatching and at 3:00 you see the transonic pass, then he banks up and starts a turn, and then the camera zooms out and you realize how invisible that is for the audience, and all without afterburner. @@sntslilhlpr6601 No, a routine with safety precautions first worked into it. Somewhat like a Blue Angels/Thunderbirds routine, but no tight formations, no line-abreast formations. The head-on passes would be offset like 500 feet or more, with a no-go if they don’t see each other. Not a dogfight demo. When I say following each other, I mean like 1/4 to a 1/2-mile in trail. Of course, each aircraft would stay within its performance envelope. One maneuver might have one afterburner climb out away from show center to the left and the other to the right. …and so forth.
