F-15EX is becoming a game-changer when paired with F-35, the new engines have an insane power-output getting near bomber level, they can carry massive hypersonic glide bombs previously only fieldable by bombers, they now have near the range of many bombers, & because they are not worried about detection, the power output from those engines brings the electronic warfare & jamming capabilities of the F-15 EX into AWACS territory for range. F/A-18 Super Hornet is behind the capabilites of the F-15EX EXCEPT where you need carrier takeoff & landing, it weighs more from heavier catapult-arrest landing gear which has to hold the weight of the fighter from full throttle to dead stop 00s of 000s of times over & over again, the weight penalty increases cost & reduces range & weapons loadout, it is a very capable fighter but if you don't need carrier capability the F-15 EX is better on every front, except indirectly the FA-18 heavily reinforced frame & landing-gear will survive bad rough landing strips better than F-15EX. This is what the Finnish air-force did with legacy Hornet FA-18 they operated off 200 widened highway sections, debris & all, 15 minutes after a road was closed for training hot refueling & rearming, they would drop the Hornets into steep short disbursed landing strips surrounded by mountains that are hard for Russians to find & bomb, & on some short strips they used mobile cable-arresting gear so they can land, refuel & relaunch Hornets from disbursed highway airfields FASTER than the famed Swedish Gripen, which only does that by having a fraction of the speed, kinetic performance, range & missile loadout of Hornet so the Gripen has to land & refuel/rearm 2x as often as Hornet.

They should've titled this video: "The history of the F-15 you already knew before and a couple minutes about the latest model.....which you already know too." ZZZZZZZZ
The motivation for the F-15EX was more than what was listed here. From what I've read elsewhere, the F-15's payload is much larger than the F-35, and it also has more mounting hard points. This complements the F-35 by serving as a 'bomb/missile truck. Additionally it can accommodate missiles (such as the hypersonic variants) that are simply too big to fit on an F-35. Given its long, stellar track record and every indication it's still pretty much in its prime, why not keep it in production?
The f35 has internal weapons bays for stealth, it can however use external rails and carry a lot but like the f15 has no stealth in that configuration.
I've seen the F15 many times up close. My wife was the one who scrambled the F15 from Otis ANG on 911. These jets and there pilots are incredible. Some had won at top gun. There ability for long range and fighting capabilities are what gives them the ege. The fact these jets have been in service since the sixties says it all.
Why? It's obsolete despite all the bling-bling. One Gripen defeated three F-15s simultaneously. Two were shot down and the third run away! That is what happens when the future meets the obsolete!
Ripped off a piece of it's wing. And there's a large amount of f15s that went down with pilots aboard in West Germany during the cold War and I definitely don't trust the us gov to not lie about having jets shot down. They only admitted Gary powers was shot down because he survived and ussr dangled him infront of the media
Here on the central Oregon coast, we hear those F-15EX’s all the time, since 2019. They are impressive. When it isn’t cloudy, we can see them refueling, and other things they do up there.
a couple years ago I took a Columbia River cruise out of Portland and remember seeing Eagles flying out for morning patrols when we were boarding the ship; I recall at least 3 pairs of F-15 flying overhead in 5 minute intervals. I knew them by their engine roar, there is no mistaking the voice of the F-15 when they pass.
When in the Air Force, worked the A, C, D and the mighty E models when they rolled out, my jet was in this video and great to see again. - loved this aircraft.
My first aero job was in the F-15 aero stability and control group back in the 80's. It was McDonnell Aircraft Company back then. Great company. Great aircraft. Great system.
Best looking thing Americans built in the last 60-70 years were F-15 and F-14. But other countries have made extremely aesthetically appealing manned fighter jets. Saab Grippen and the MIG-29 and SU-57 come to mind.
Please, Google Gripen against all your bling-blinged obsolete fighter jets. Get real! Not once have you defeated a Gripen with the F-15, F-16, or the F-18 since 2006. It's 18 long years for you to learn...but you don't Why?
This is a great deal for the USAF, the old F-15 variants were really showing their age including cracks being found inside the airframes and engine bays from all the years of usage and older metals used in the airframes. They made improvements to the metals used and airframe designs to strengthen internal structural integrity and lengthen service life on this new EX version and they also inscreased the hardpoint numbers to carry more munitions like up to 22 Air to Air missiles or Bombs. The F-15EX's one glaring negative is that it has no Stealth.

I remember when I first saw the F-15 & walked up to it. Luke AFB in Arizona early 1976. Thing was a beast 👍 And it was very capable of attaining some awesome world records 👁️🔥🔥👁️
Hahahahahaahaahhaaaaahha, F-22 is old but still good. F-35 is new but still have million problems. Gripen E is a real contender to the title best Fighter Jet 2025.
The F15 is definitely one of my all time favorite fighter jets made. The thing has been in all our conflicts since it was made and has been undefeated. It's so capable that even our Allies want them to stay in service. Now we have this new F15EX, which if it's just an upgraded version it'll be an animal. Put the f15 and f18 in pairs and they can take on any fighter jets you send their way. 🇺🇸
The f35 is on a different level. The f35 B has systems that allow networked fighters and wingmen like drones. It is an amazing tech that allows them to work in perfect synchronisation.
We know it will be a Beast. I don't believe we should share it with too many countries though. I say Israel and Japan . Then make up our mind. Who do we Really trust with the Tech?
And the other benefit...there are 100's of retired or moved on to other work, pilots that can practically get into a newer version and be competent to fly it, if not expert, very, very quickly.
Learned a lot from working on these. Early model f15's late in their service life were experiencing damage to the leading edge of the v-stabs over time. If not adressed, they caused structural failures leading to crashes. I hope this has been addressed in v2.
The comment at 5:00 ("the F-15 was the first to be able to hit multiple targets at up to 100 miles") doesn't sound right - I believe that was the F-14 with the AIM-54 missile. Newer AIM-120 missiles (which the F-15 can fire) are believed to be able to reach out 100 miles or more, but they came much later.
The F15 entered service in 1974. The F14 was still having flat spin problems in the mid eighties. So the F15 was probably hitting multiple targets first, and I’m a retired Naval aviation engineer
@@jimsteinway695 Not sure how flat spin problems affect ability to hit multiple targets unless launching the first missile triggers the spin... but as far as I know the "almost 100 mile" AIM-120D did not arrive until 2006 and earlier versions had quite a bit less range. That said, I agree that if you drop the "100 miles" qualifier the results probably change in favour of the F-15 and AIM-120, at least in terms of *number* of successes as opposed to *first*.
Hey Guy, you forgot to mention the small 20mm Vulcan CANON. Just a tiny oversight, I'm sure. In pilot terms, it's the difference between apple pie and pie alamode! In the 104 registered kills, everyone would love to know how many were with blazing guns?
The fact the Chinese and Russians have very few fighters as capable to this day make this upgrade a good value and smart deployment. Lets hope Boeing's recent quality problems don't seep into this one.
The Israelis were the first to use the F-15 in combat and they easily defeated their opponents. This fighter jet is a beast. It has never lost in a dogfight. The F-15 is a marvel of aerodynamic technology. It certainly belongs in the Air Force fleet of fighter jets.
If you think Russia and China are terrified by anything the West does, you don’t know Russia or China. During WW2, Russia (the USSR) lost 27 million people and China lost 20 million people. That kind of loss hardens people. Concerned is probably a better descriptor than terrified, YFI.
I wonder why they didn’t try minimal changes to reduce its radiological print ? They have already used composite components, but the hind vertical wings are not angled out as they promised!
Please Canada had invented a fighter in the early 1950s but politicians for some reason had it scrapped. I’d say it scared the hell out of the Americans. The Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow was a delta-winged interceptor aircraft designed and built by Avro Canada. The CF-105 held the promise of Mach 2 speeds at altitudes exceeding 50,000 feet and was intended to serve as the Royal Canadian Air Force's primary interceptor into the 1960s and beyond.
When you pair 5 each F-15EXs which are essentially Bomb and Missile trucks together with an F-22 stealth fighter. The invisible F-22 hunts, while the EX kills.
Much like the CH-53 is for the USMC, the F-15 is to the USAF. Both are aircraft so tailored to roles basically inherent to the mission, that upgraded forms of the original, OUTSTANDING basic design will be around for the next 40+ years.
What is the value of twin vertical stabilizers vs just the one on most aircraft? More drag, more parts, more things that can go wrong. There must be a strong benefit.
As a F16 full scale simulator guy I use the realistic BMS4.37u4 as a platform to fly simulated missions. What struck me every time in A2A situations is the somewhat limited capabilities of the AIM-120 in term of range. We all see platform improvals, Like F35 etc, but the weapon dev is lagging. When I have to maneuver to get into the AIM-120 lethal envelope I waste valuable time and extend exposure of being shot down. Why can my fox3 not be part of the link16 system after it is send? It could make it stealthy with guidance from multiple airborne radars or even Sentry, and find the target autonomously when in closer range. just a thought
Literally they just need to make the EW pods from the f18- Growler work with the EPAWSs system and the f-15 would have a new lease on life. It would be brilliant to have something as big as the f-15 be the one hunting SAMs instead of being hunted by them. Add in the ability to carry the aim 174b for crazy BVR and that will easily get the airforce by until the NGAD actually goes into production.
Yes that is an excellent jet! I want one please. I plan on doing some cross country flying, so I think the F-15EX would be great for this because I could take my friend in the back seat! Do you know how much luggage space this one has? Probably an external storage pod, right? I'd guess the luggage pod would be long enough for us to take skis, like if we ant to go for a skiing trip out west. Yup, when I get mine we are going to have some great fun! Cheers.
We should only sell this f-15ex until after 15 years of service give him the old Tomcats we don't know in the future who's going to be our enemy at this point
The F15EX sounds to me like a great idea. It is presumably less expensive than the F35 and has the capability to do a myriad of tasks that are required of the USAF. Although it may not have all the capabilities of the F35 or the F22, these capabilities are not always required. You don't need a shotgun to kill a fly, a flyswatter will do. Not to belittle the F15EX by this analogy but you don't always require a tank to do a task. Sometimes a rifle is all you need. And rifles are less expensive than tanks. Besides, Like the A10 Warthog, the F15 Eagle is an icon of the US armed forces and I would like to see their presence preserved everything else being equal.
Until it takes on the F -22! Several years ago, six F-15s were "shot down" in a live simulation. The F-15s didn't know the F-22 was there until it was far too late. The new F-15 is capable of shooting down anything Russia and China have, including the SU-57 so-called Russian Stealth Plane, and the Chinese J-20 is easy to visually track due to its dirty engine exhaust. It's like the wake of a stealth ship on the water; if the wake is there, so is a ship regardless of a valid RCS reading. The air-to-air performance is not the problem; evading more robust anti-aircraft missile batteries are the only real threat to the F-15s. The payload is amazing; it rivals or surpasses the payload of an A-10 Warthog.
The directional stability of the machine is probably not satisfactory, which is why 2 oversized control planes were needed, the tilting of which would impair the efficiency.
The F-15EX is sorely needed to round out the U.S. Mach 2+ interceptor force. The F-22 is formidable, but too expensive to operate and maintain for interceptor missions. The legacy Eagles have greatly aged, and need to be replaced by newer models fitted with up to date avionics, software, significantly greater speed, and a new and increased lethality and weapons loads.

Did you hear the man say "first flew in 1972"??!!
😂😂😂
Updated old technology isn't always a good thing, look at Russian tanks. The f15 is a great plane but your thinking is wrong.
Beautiful fighter still today its top shelf
A perfect upgrade for the perfect warhorse! 'May she reign supreme in her domain' were the most fitting cristening words ever!
This is the Super F15. It should be wearing a Superman Cape !😎
Why? It's obsolete despite all the bling-bling. One Gripen defeated three F-15s simultaneously. Two were shot down and the third run away! That is what happens when the future meets the obsolete!

THANK YOU SO MUCH. TOTALLY AWSOME INNOVATION.
Enjoyed this video. Thank you.
The F15 remains undefeated, and has even flown to a safe landing after a mid-air ripped a wing off. Toughest fighter ever
I hear/see them in SE Portland on a near daily basis, doing rounds from the airport I expect.
a couple years ago I took a Columbia River cruise out of Portland and remember seeing Eagles flying out for morning patrols when we were boarding the ship; I recall at least 3 pairs of F-15 flying overhead in 5 minute intervals. I knew them by their engine roar, there is no mistaking the voice of the F-15 when they pass.
When in the Air Force, worked the A, C, D and the mighty E models when they rolled out, my jet was in this video and great to see again. - loved this aircraft.
Weren’t the Israelis the first to get a combat kill with the F15 back in the day?
Yes
You could be right
The pilot said This costs the same as a Hospital $15m then..😝😝😝😝😝
so.
Probably, they get everything from us but always take the credit. Plus Billions in give away money.
My first aero job was in the F-15 aero stability and control group back in the 80's. It was McDonnell Aircraft Company back then. Great company. Great aircraft. Great system.
This contract was a miracle. Those men were very VERY lucky.
The f15 is definitely a iconic jet and will go down in history as one of the best ever made
✅️ it's a living legend
The best-looking fighter ever made the f14 tomcat, but this is a close second.
Best looking thing Americans built in the last 60-70 years were F-15 and F-14. But other countries have made extremely aesthetically appealing manned fighter jets. Saab Grippen and the MIG-29 and SU-57 come to mind.
Amazing how the USA's "Older" aircraft can still dominate today some almost 50 years later. Upgrades of course. Thank you.
Please, Google Gripen against all your bling-blinged obsolete fighter jets. Get real! Not once have you defeated a Gripen with the F-15, F-16, or the F-18 since 2006. It's 18 long years for you to learn...but you don't Why?

The only reason it exists is because we stopped producing the F-22.
And the F-15 remained in production
You should ask them why they stopped making the F-22.
No, it’s because the export of the F-22 was banned. Economies of scale drives costs.

AWESOME best front line jet ever built in the 1970's and with the NEW EX version..............even BETTER, STRONGER, FASTER, SMARTER greater RELIABILITY and lower Maintenance costs engineered into this WORLD beater of a U.S.A. made FREE World protector of Democracy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
Since it is not an entirely new aircraft, why can't they just upgrade the ones that they already have?
@@chriswheeler6092 Airframes are too old.

Sometimes I think I should have gotten into the military at a younger age... I am useless now and probably don't even qualify. I love America.
Still my favorite after all these years.

Old F-4 Pilot Shoe🇺🇸
Mike Tyson has really got to hate the F-15 now after that comparison! 😂😂😂
I remember when I first saw the F-15 & walked up to it. Luke AFB in Arizona early 1976. Thing was a beast 👍 And it was very capable of attaining some awesome world records 👁️🔥🔥👁️
Amazing what is possible when stealth is not the primary design consideration
I can't be the only one who saw the thumbnail out of the corner of my eye and read, "F-1 SEX Eagle Ready to Battle." LOL!
Awesome bit of kit. I’ve always loved the F-15 and the EX is a Beast.
Praying that Boeing doesn't screw this up like they have been doing recently.
No version of F-15 would stand a chance against Mike Tyson.
The F-16 l feel is worth the upgrade it have, and has earned that consideration!
Naww. It doesn't and never will have the power from a single jet design. Its massively underpowered compared to the f15
American jets are the best in the world
Hahahahahaahaahhaaaaahha, F-22 is old but still good. F-35 is new but still have million problems. Gripen E is a real contender to the title best Fighter Jet 2025.
Only because of the English know how that goes into making them
@@donquixote1502 The Gripen E is the KIA of Fighters!
In the top ten. But behind at least 3 American jets
I think they're the only jets in the world
The F15 is definitely one of my all time favorite fighter jets made.
My enlistment ended in 1980. Kadena afb in okinawa was getting f-15 to replace f-4 fighters.
We know it will be a Beast. I don't believe we should share it with too many countries though. I say Israel and Japan . Then make up our mind. Who do we Really trust with the Tech?
“isreal and Japan”😂😂😂🤣
Given it relies on BAe Systems technology, I'm guessing the RAF might be interested. The F35s seem to be doing well enough for now, though.
And the other benefit...there are 100's of retired or moved on to other work, pilots that can practically get into a newer version and be competent to fly it, if not expert, very, very quickly.
Sill unbeatable, the mighty F-15 Eagle !! I hope the F-15 Silent Eagle gets developed.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I miss read it at first I thought it said F-1 SEX Eagle It Fucks up the enemy
The F-15EX is not in service yet. I know for a fact that it's still being developed and tested at Eglin AFB in Florida.
2 of them have been delivered to Fresno and are flying with the Guard. Sure it's the "Guard" but that equates to "in service" one would think.
Thanks for this very well done video. I feel it's a major advantage for the USAF to have several " Level's " of fighters that can be used.
Learned a lot from working on these. Early model f15's late in their service life were experiencing damage to the leading edge of the v-stabs over time. If not adressed, they caused structural failures leading to crashes. I hope this has been addressed in v2.
The F15 Streak Eagle has the best design. Looks like something from Star Wars in the 1970s
Your thumbnail is deceiving.
Misleading thumbnail.
The original was a beast and a legend. This one is a gigantic problem for anything it's aimed at
Wow! I'm in Oregon near where the new jets are going. I may be going to see them soon. They are having an airshow in July!
F-15EX. Ready to deliver some Freedom!
The fact the Chinese and Russians have very few fighters as capable to this day make this upgrade a good value and smart deployment.
Lets hope Boeing's recent quality problems don't seep into this one.
Magnificent aeroplane. What else can be said.....
The Israelis were the first to use the F-15 in combat and they easily defeated their opponents. This fighter jet is a beast. It has never lost in a dogfight. The F-15 is a marvel of aerodynamic technology. It certainly belongs in the Air Force fleet of fighter jets.
They're not fighting against serious opponents and they're fighting with someone else's money.
If you think Russia and China are terrified by anything the West does, you don’t know Russia or China. During WW2, Russia (the USSR) lost 27 million people and China lost 20 million people. That kind of loss hardens people. Concerned is probably a better descriptor than terrified, YFI.
I wasn't aware China was actively involved in ww2 😂😂

Ever heard of Japan? How about Pearl Harbor? The Japanese military killed millions all over Asia during World War Two.
I dont think 20 million will make it across Alaska
Russia can't beat the Ukraine, so yes I think they would be scared of US High Tech Military.
Amazing it's never been shot down in Aerial combat...
It maybe a old design but damn sure looks and preforms better than some of the newer suffer so yeah
I wonder why they didn’t try minimal changes to reduce its radiological print ? They have already used composite components, but the hind vertical wings are not angled out as they promised!
Probably because someone has realised that stealth fails when the heat signature is capable of identifying threats.
The B35 Kamakhazi 25 years past its delivery date barely works and the new wonder jet the stand up from America is incredible
I truly love your channel. Keep doing the best work.
Much like the CH-53 is for the USMC, the F-15 is to the USAF. Both are aircraft so tailored to roles basically inherent to the mission, that upgraded forms of the original, OUTSTANDING basic design will be around for the next 40+ years.
Let's hope Boeing uses a different build crew than the ones that build their airliners.
What is the value of twin vertical stabilizers vs just the one on most aircraft? More drag, more parts, more things that can go wrong. There must be a strong benefit.
Will go down in U. S. HISTORY AS THE GREATEST FIGHTER EVER!!!!!!😮❤
That is why the F-16 is the most selling bird in the world...
2024 and still undefeated in air to air engagements.
Always a crowd-pleaser at the air shows.
Glad they gave the EX the avionics to be more than just a missile truck
Yes that is an excellent jet! I want one please. I plan on doing some cross country flying, so I think the F-15EX would be great for this because I could take my friend in the back seat! Do you know how much luggage space this one has? Probably an external storage pod, right? I'd guess the luggage pod would be long enough for us to take skis, like if we ant to go for a skiing trip out west. Yup, when I get mine we are going to have some great fun!
Cheers.
Let's just hope the new model can stay in the air and actually works....unlike the F35....... 100s of Billions later.
Why did the thumbnail for this video show an F-35 instead of an F-15?
The Legend continues
We should only sell this f-15ex until after 15 years of service give him the old Tomcats we don't know in the future who's going to be our enemy at this point
Mike tyson is capable of carrying up to 25k lbs of weapons? Thats impressive!
Canada has 80 F-35's coming soon. Did we order the wrong jet?
Naww big brother got your back.
Besides, Like the A10 Warthog, the F15 Eagle is an icon of the US armed forces and I would like to see their presence preserved everything else being equal.
at its production rate, I think the F35 is becoming slightly cheaper.
Great watch thank you
Damn…undefeated. Never knew that. It should be renamed the ZL1. Zero Losses I’m number 1 😂
Why wasn't the twin tails angled slightly to reduce radar cross section?
The directional stability of the machine is probably not satisfactory, which is why 2 oversized control planes were needed, the tilting of which would impair the efficiency.
I believe the F-16 was the first with fly by wire when it went into service in 1980.
A well built fighter jet...and the F-15EX is supposed to be even better!
"F-15EX Eagle Ready to Battle Has Russia and China Terrified" Too funny!
