One of the most admirable traits of Rei is that she treats her creation as a real work, read hard work, often a torture. She is workaholic. If you reads some of her interview, you will find that. She doesn't think that she creates art, avant garde fashion, or some other highly regard things. She always gives impression that she just happen to works as designer of clothes, nothing else. Really admirable human being.
I live in Tokyo and have the fortune of being able to visit Comme des Garcon stores and 2nd hand luxury shops carrying the products. The jackets and formal wear skirts/pants are especially gorgeous and amazing in person! I only wish I wasn’t allergic to wool so I could own a piece for my designer wardrobe. But I am always in awe when I see the craftsmanship and intricate asymmetrical patterns (a bit more whimsical than Yohji Yamamoto)
I’m so glad you’re back. I really enjoy the videos you share with us. They’re super informative and share a different view to some brands/ designers we’ve come to know.
Hi as an ex-employee of Comme, enjoying video and Interesting, but Dover Street Market was inspired Kensington Market that was on High street Kensington (closed in the 90’s) not as mentioned in the video.
These history videos are so interesting!! I am studying fashion in college and this is very helpful knowing the backround of all the popular fashion houses
This is such a good story bro, wow. I love how rei treated junya as if he was her son taking him under her wing. Rei finding love thru and unexpected partner.
very accurate, i’ve read around and watched videos, & this told the story well. would love if you did a video on Hysteric Glamour, kind of a cult favorite iykyk type of brand, japanese streetwear/fashion that pre-dated bape but i can never find any videos touching on their history.
Amazing video! Only thing missing imo is listing the boquet of brands that gained traction under CdG/DSM wigs, most notably Gosha Rubchinsky, Kei Ninomiya, Ganryu, and to some extent CPFM
@@st.commodus1437 CPFM wasn’t really an cdg umbrella brand, however it was one oc many that gained a lot of traction after being showcased in DSM corner + been a collaborator since
I really appreciate how informative and refined your videos are and how you form a holistic image, both figuratively and literally, of a brand in a timeline. It would be a great piece of content if you did such narration about Gosha Rubchinsky, as the self-titled brand disappeared being on its peak.
No “Urban Wear” which is what it was referred to as before “Street Wear”, Dapper Dan, Fubu, Sean John, etc were the pioneers in what we are doing today, why tf you think they call it “street” wear for lol And the owner of stussy, Nicky Diamond and a few others have acknowledged it in previous interviews, make sure to do your history sir 💯👌🏿
12:30 i dont know if anyone knew this but this is the dance for Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity" music video! The set is also inspired by the music video.
Great vid :) I came to see footage of the first Paris week show and watched the whole thing. You must know by now that DSM is styled after Kensington Market in London, not Toronto haha. But as a Torontonian I thought that one was funny. ☮

Love this video! Really gave me inspiration and when it got to the DSM Kensington Market link, as a Toronto local.

An episode on Stussy would be amazing, they’re basically the original streetwear brand
definitely gonna make that happen soon

She didn't have to "find the song". During the 60s and 70s, French music was extremely popular back then in Japan.
