The greatest pop band of the last decade. Over and over again this band proves themselves to be capable of writing airy gems that have lyrical gravity. Molly is nailing it.

Just discovered this song and band- I have now listened to their first 2 studio albums....I am absolutely blown away with this band. Every single song is so creative and has something different- the melodies are so well crafted, and the soundscapes this band creates are so ethereal and pretty. Absolutely incredible. For this song in particular, this has got to be one of the best songs of all time.

The visuals in this song remind me of my childhood. Goofing around and having fun, around the water. Now even the opening guitar line sounds like youth to me. And that wishful dreamy echo on the vocals. :)
Beautiful song and melody. So wistful and longing it actually brings tears to my eyes. Sort of like The Vaccines. Great stuff. Guess I'd better buy the album.

That's a beautiful and very touching post, I love my own dog Dougal so much, I'm really sorry for the loss of your dear companion and family member, RIP Archie
I haven’t heard this song in years, and now I’m crying as my mind ties it to the last two. We never listened to this song together, but hearing this now I can only think of her. I broke up with her months ago, and did so because I knew it was best for me and believed it was best for her. I still believe this, and yet the pain seems no less for being the one who chose to leave. Although I know she cannot see it now, I believe a happiness awaits her that is far greater than what I could give. Such a gentle soul deserves no less, and I pray she finds it soon. Love you still, Samara.
She is the daughter of the late John Morris Rankin of the Rankin Family, but I'm sure you Canadians already know that. Her voice has that Rankin tone, which is great. Different style of music though. I have been hearing this song a lot on Sirius radio. Great song.
Like 7-8 years ago I always listened this song on my work commute, hoping to find my ''Archie'' -And I did! My now wife, is perfect in every way, she's everything I could've dared to hope. ''Hey, hey, marry me, Archie!'' Popped often in my head whenever I thought about proposing her and being married to her. After wonderful 6 years she told me she's not happy anymore, so I'm back here listening Alvvays and reminiscing, trying to hold it together.
Okay but just so you know your archie used to be a homosexual (nothing wrong with that) yeah, he'd make any guy happy by getting down on his knees for a quick $20...😏 He was also a coke addict 😐
This song as well as the video hit me with such a high dose of Nostalgia that it's literally the most painful thing I ever experienced while being so beautiful at the same time...
Man this takes me back to the late 80's-early 90's, sorry if that sounds cliche or whatev but there was some great music coming out then and this would have fit right in nicely with my Curve and Lush records. I need to get this album, don't I...

My husband and I got married right around the same time this song came out. It has been our theme song ever since. Including the student loans! >.
...did you make it to 5 years? I had a 5 year "starter marriage" before my grown-up marriage. I think I needed the starter marriage for growth before I could have a mature marriage...anyways, good luck to you. I wish you success...
Celebrated our 40th with takeout! Her dad liked me because I started paying off her student loans even b4 we got married. Of course, it was like $35/ month back then. 😀
Yes made it past 5 years! Still happy! Although, in retrospect, it would’ve been nice if I had paid off my loans beforehand 😅 and happy 40th Joe!

My new favourite song. Love the catchy tune, the mix, the distorted guitars with feedback(particularly in the second verse) , the jangly guitars, and the lyrics are just beautiful. Pure Genius! Wonderful vossonation!
This one girl was absolutely crazy over me. I was at the time too, i was on a trip in hawaii staring at the sunset and she sent me this song, one of the happiest moments in my life was hearing this song knowing she had nothing but love in her mind when she sent it. The sunset and all these feelings im processing while hearing this amazing song, I’ll never forget it.
You've expressed explicitly your contempt for matrimony
You've student loans to pay and will not risk the alimony
We spend our days locked in a room content inside a bubble
And in the night time we go out and scour the streets for trouble
Hey, hey, marry me, Archie
Hey, hey, marry me, Archie
During the summer take me sailing out on the Atlantic
I won't set my sights on other seas, there is no need to panic
So honey take me by the hand and we can sign some papers
Forget the invitations, floral arrangements and bread makers
Hey, hey, marry me, Archie
Hey, hey, marry me, Archie
Too late to go out, too young to stay in
They're talking about us living in sin
Hey, hey, marry me, Archie
Hey, hey, marry me, Archie
Hey, hey, marry me, Archie
Hey, hey, A.R.C.H.I.E, hey
This deserves infinitely more views. Unbelievably gifted songwriting & impeccable vocal melodies.
11 mil is quite alot lol. I usually don't enjoy songs with this high of a view count but this song is insanely good
The greatest pop band of the last decade. Over and over again this band proves themselves to be capable of writing airy gems that have lyrical gravity. Molly is nailing it.
If I ever feel down and depressed, I come to this video. This song is so awesome and uplifting to me.
Exact opposite for me.I come here to feel more down than I am😂

Just discovered this song and band- I have now listened to their first 2 studio albums....I am absolutely blown away with this band. Every single song is so creative and has something different- the melodies are so well crafted, and the soundscapes this band creates are so ethereal and pretty. Absolutely incredible. For this song in particular, this has got to be one of the best songs of all time.
Alvvays is the happy version of Mazzy Star.
Can't argue with that
Hahaha glad someone else agrees
Is their song Next of Kin happy? I think not. Pay attention to the lyrics.
@@rygarbensen3953 Well it's up-beat at least. The good news is Molly is not a lifeguard. Already Gone is a sweet.. sweet but very sad tune. And what's that other song I always take literally?... Oh yeah, Forget about life. Brings a tear to my synthesizer.
@@rygarbensen3953 not every song has to be happy in order to make a band overall, in general, a happy-upbeat band 🤷♂️
Without Molly singing, their songs wouldn't even be half as good as they are. She has the voice of an angel.

I love the way the guitars fade out and you hear that bass line in the second verse. Great song. Addictive.
Omg I am so glad someone else is the same way. I keep repeating the second verse because of this. It’s soo good.

WolfBlaz I was born in '97 ❤❤
For real. It's so nostalgic.
More like '94. The nineties went to shit afterwards.
The visuals in this song remind me of my childhood. Goofing around and having fun, around the water. Now even the opening guitar line sounds like youth to me. And that wishful dreamy echo on the vocals. :)
If anyone was wondering, 1:24 is asl for "the hand" and at 2:57 it's "Archie" :)
Beautiful song and melody. So wistful and longing it actually brings tears to my eyes. Sort of like The Vaccines. Great stuff. Guess I'd better buy the album.
Can I just say it's comments like these that make me want to move to Canada? Yall seem so nice!

This is the best pop song ever. Hands down. It will be recognised in due time not now
Indie pop/indie rock is called indie for a reason. The masses just wouldn't bite into it.
You are correct 100%. I'm surprised I had to scroll that far to find someone saying it.
Right up there with Friday I'm in Love in my book!
Best? Listen this is great and all but I wouldn't even call it the best pop song of the year it came out.
You probably missed out a lot. It's a great song for sure but not even the best in the entire dream pop universe.
Is this not the cutest band in the world? If there was an award for cutest band, Alvvays would win every year.
