maybe only 5 - if they continue being able to fit five story arc into 1 season like they did with season 1, we should be all the way caught up in just about 8 seasons (depending on how many arcs are in the final saga and if they take longer to tell some story arcs than they do others i.e. fishman island, thriller bark, marineford etc).
That Matt Owens (likely with Oda's backing) was able to push back against execs and not get fired means they recognized how important he is to the success of this show. If Matt Owens was ever forced off the show I'd instantly know it's going to be shit and all my interest would instantly evaporate. I'd honestly probably unsub from Netflix, since I only subbed to watch OPLA.

Bartolomeo is not in a flashback, though. He is right there when Luffy is about to be executed by Buggy. I love how they put in those little details that became canon in the manga retrospectively.

Actually Karoo is very manageable. He only appears for a short comic relief scene with Miss Wednesday in Whiskey Peak and stays on the ship/ almost freezes to death for the whole of Drum Island. His big scenes are on Little Garden and Chopper is not there yet. Even during Alabasta as soon as they land he is sent ahead to the palace with a letter effectively removing him from the first part of the story and only comes back for a little bit in the second half where he is immediately beaten. With some work around he is very doable.
They could use a well trained large bird for most of his standing roles lol. It would even be a good cgi base if they can get the bird to wear a little green hat lol.
This might not be a popular opinion but I like the idea of ending season 2 with reveal that Luffy has a brother looking for him. It would be really good cliff hanger for the next season.
I'd say Baby Yoda actully IS a good approach for Chopper. He's a series regular and he's not made out of CGI, he's an animatronic puppet. His popularity alone showed how much people were actually willing to accept.

I really like the casting of Miss Wednesday. I recently rewatched Bridgerton and she is excellent in it. And I noticed although this cast confirmed it, they are casting characters in a non-spoiler way for “Live Action Onlys” (I still can’t believe that’s a thing. So the person playing Miss All Sunday will be cast as Miss All Sunday, not [SPOILER]. These castings have made me even more excited. See the Live Action casting Barto for Loguetown even though the Live Action will likely never get to Dressrosa is what I want WIT to do in their remake. Add in references and foreshadowing that aren't in Tori's anime or the manga, like Barto at Loguetown, a news article, or a Marine report about one of the other Supernovas, etc.

I think drum island is a pretty underrated arc and can have a good satisfying ending but they really need to give us a more threatening villain than wapol. Possibilities could be using Mr 3 pulling the strings with Miss Sunday on order from crocodile and they clash at drum island instead of little garden. The live action is its own unique adaptation so I think this could work. Then have the B plot with smoker and tashigi in alabasta facing crocodile at the climax. They need to draw up hype for season 3 and Wapol doesn't cut it.
They need to double down on the "sick nation" idea and how Hililuk is the doctor who saves nations. It'll be more political thriller than other arcs, but it's the only way for the idea to work
They need to connect loguetown, WP, LG to drum island for it to work as a finale of the season. Smoker/Tashigi Marine B-plot needs to intersect w/ the Strawhats-Baroque works' A-plot too. Idk how they'd make Wapol as the big bad of the season when the whole season was about baroque works + marines (b-plot).

I think it's just because people usually see executives as just money sucking vampires who don't know anything about the thing they're making money from and yet demand other people to do things their way so thats probably why people are glad matt Owens and oda are keeping a strict reign on them, I mean Oda literally made them reshoot some things back when season 1 was filming simply because he didn't like it, So yeah
They are able to do this because Oda owns the entire rights of One Piece. It also works that it is a story that is still ongoing. Most other live actions are from manga/anime that already ended which makes most mangaka more likely to accept whatever a western film company wants to change. It's a miracle that One Piece is still running, Oda is fighting for the story and Matt Owens is willing to respect what Oda wants. Sadly nowadays not many shows are like this to their source material anymore.
Releasing an all season in one go is really some bad decision from Netflix for high expectancy show. Because if you release all directly, the people invested will watch it then maybe talk about it the day or week after at their work or with family which could not have the time to see a full season show, and that's sometimes all. While with an extended release more people could catch the train when their coworker talk about the last episode. I understand that maybe a one episode a week is really a slow (and a bit counter-induitive for their prime market), but they could easly increase the number of episode. Just limit the diffusion within a full month, releasing 2 or 3 episodes a week (so about 10 for the season). You can even use it as a marketing thing, the "[name of the series] Month" and advertise it as the next big thing (for at least this month).
Limiting episode release just means people won't watch it til it's all out, I have to deal with this for EVERY show cause my friend has OCD. Don't do that

You know what, I think being cautious with content in the beginning is really important now. This is the GRAND LINE, we're talking about. This is the culmination of the start of everyone's dreams. This will be the first impression of the truly important feasts. And what if One Piece Live Action ends prematurely? You'll still have these phenomenally paced next two seasons (lots of retroactive new Oda stuff will be put into place, too, in Season 2, and Season 3 can now be truly glorious) - rather than historical footage of things being rushed to an ending that doesn't exist. This will let the casual world know, what the fans were talking about when they were disappointed with the pacing of Season 1.
I also believe the passage of time in one piece is unbelievable. All those events before the time skip happens in a few months is impossible. It makes it look like the world is small and they can hop from island to island that fast. For one thing they're using sails not engines. Maybe they stay in the island at most 1 week but most of the time they're traveling. So them aging in the live action as the season progresses is more realistic.

If we ever make it to Impel Down, I'm guessing that would be like 5-6 seasons from now. But to be fair I don't think the LA will ever make it to Sabaody 1. It can be difficult to get actors to return after some time, but I feel like you're forgetting the franchise were talking about. A lot of the actors seem pretty dedicated to bringing this story to life, I feel like most if not all actors accepting a certain role would be willing to say no to work in the future when their time comes. Sure, to most this is just a regular show, but to the people who love it their dedicated to it. We have actors like the main cast who are fully dedicated to their roles, Emily basically trained her whole life for this moment. If this show is a constant success, that means it will be a commitment from the jump! It's a long running show, where characters come and go constantly, you don't just take a role knowing you won't come back later.

It doesn't make sense if he is Ace. Ace shouldn't be played by a latino actor since Gol D Roger has been played by an American actor. Ace is not a biological brother to Luffy, so he doesn't need to be latino.
Chopper being in heavy point all the time would be the cheapest route. And definitely understandable from that viewpoint of saving on costs. But it would also show a lack of resolve to provide your best effort. Fans expect the cute character everyone knows Chopper to be. Skimping out on that by taking the easy route will always deliver the expected disappointed reaction from fans. The director and crew have shown they're willing to provide their best for this adaptation, so I have faith they will find a way to try and meet fan expectations.

Adding Bart is great and there is room for Ace. Besides the end of Drum he could run into Buggy and have that drinking scene. Buggy could get arrested by Smoker and give Smoker more to do like they did with Garp. I think anyone important they cast they're going have to give more work to/make some changes.

can confirm about the word of mouth. for YEARS i refused to touch one piece and suddenly OPLA released and it's all my friends could talk about on social media, etc. eventually you cave and go what's the deal with this anyway, how good could it possibly be? Then you've been caught and before you know it you're caught up and eagerly awaiting the weekly releases of the manga/anime!
Even from money perspective it's stupid when they can make more seasons out of such amazing source material. They should focus on putting more money and effort into this series to pump out seasons faster to catch up with story before actors age too much. OPLA have potential to be Netflix next flagship show once Stranger things end.
I’m only halfway through the manga, and I have friends who are caught up, and I’m convinced the crew swapping game Foxy plays will come back in a pivotal dramatic moment, but my friends say it won’t happen. Remember though, Elbaf is first mentioned in Drum Island, and from what I hear it’s finally coming to fruition in current day one piece. I think Foxy was just extremely early set up for something big coming. And because of that I think they won’t skip it, I think it’ll be a one off episode that ends with introducing Aokiji to set up Water 7 and Enies Lobby.
Oda is really close to the showrunners and writters and we got a foxy poster on episode 1, so i totally agree w you. Im curenly on the beggining of Punk Hazard arc and i stopped One Piece 10 years ago because... life happens. Now i'm rewatching everything from start and bro, it's amazing how mutch setup they did. And the show is no different, like, first Zoro scene he's killing a Baroque Works guy. Now we'll probably get back to it and casuals will have the same effect we had "oh, the guy zoro killed, the card" etc. One Piece is proabably the single modern thing comparable to Lord of Rings in terms of development and craft.
If they get that far, I can see Netflix changing their minds and making One Piece Weekly for the Water 7/Enies Lobby season, (maybe expand the season to 12 episodes so you easily fit Long Ring Long land as well as the escape and end of Enies Lobby, and possibly push Post Enies to open season 6 and ends with Sabody (if you can do 2 with Post Enies, 3-4 with Sabody, then you get 5 or 6 with Thriller Bark. Expanding the season gives an excuse to change the delivery format, right now we are at a shifting societal perspective on weekly serial formats so 5-6 years from now it will have evolved further, and also the success to get to a season 5 could justify a reinvestment in the series to change format and maybe up the season episode count).

I mean honestly doing arabasta might have been the better option in terms of main stream media sucess honestly I think people who are watching for the first time will think this season is very slow and not as impactfull. Hopefully the show will still get season 3 4 and so on and they make it work.
Hearing all the difficulties with Chopper and Karoo makes me think about Fishman Island or Zou. Netflix better make that effects breakthrough or absolutely make the bank of their lives in Summit War and Dressrosa otherwise they're gonna suffer the whole arc.
Chopper isn't a mink though, they might have to adapt Zou more in line with how they designed Merry for the live action - more emphasis on humanoid and subtle animal traits. I expect Bebo to big a big soft dude with polar bear ears and such.

I think they’ll have the Ace scene in Drum Kingdom as an end credit scene like Smoker at the end of s1 (but they don’t need to have an actor casted to do that just like they did with Smoker). All they need to do is have a character mention that there was someone looking for Luffy after they’ve left the island and maybe have a flashback to the scene. I don’t think they’ll spend the entire season 3 in Alabasta (I mean it could happen, I just don’t think so), so Ace and Blackbeards introductions will be big moments in season 3 prepping for future seasons. Ofc, s3 hasn’t been confirmed, but that’s just my thoughts.

Joe Manganienello is actually a pretty big actor. He was in True Blood, for one. I've never seen it but i have friends who do. He's a big guy and would look great as Crocodile.
I knew they'd bring in Bartolomeo. We didn't see originally that Dragon was in the crowd when Gold Roger was executed - not the first time we were shown the execution. Later on they showed us that scene again reanimated and showed us that Dragon was there in the crowd. We saw Dragon briefly in the opening scene of the live action series - that is we saw someone in a green cloak and hood standing near where the rest of the marines were standing. I knew that would be a good precedent to show us Bartolomeo in loguetown the first time we went there
Yeah, but despite that Nuxanor is friends with Matt Owens. So theres at least some legimacy to his claims, because it would be natural to assume that Owens would not wanna hang out with people that are lying about him.

I think they could do Karu pretty well with puppet work and a small amount of cgi for say his feet and so it’s not too expensive just have him wait on the ship the whole time. I like Karu
I'm a supporter of Heavy Point being the default mode of chopper on this version. Because having Brain Point as the default would require either a tiny CG pet that is bound to look terrible, or a child or preteen actor... do I have to explain why that's a huge risk at best and a terrible idea at worst? However, I hope they DON'T make a "big breakthrough in VFS that makes them cost less" is not a good idea. CG artists are already not-unionized , and are being paid misery rates due to it (That's a big part of why Disney is getting SO reliant on CG). But don't believe a YT comment, go check out first hand accounts and the official numbers.
Netflix has started spliting their seasons in half. Half comes out and then a month or two the 2nd half drops. 8 episodes for their 1st season did hurt somewhat cause parts got rushed.
What if they did an Ace story as a throughline side story the way they did for Colby and Garp in season one? Ace traipsing around the Grand Line then the season ends with them meeting up on Alabasta. That’s be fun and a good way to previews some future parts of the grand line, also setting up Whitebeard and Blackbeard. Doubt they have the time for it, but if you told me they would have so much of Colbymeppo in season one and got through Arlong Park I’d have said that’s impossible too.
I’ve been describing Sabaody as an Infinity War level event…it gets real and you want to look away but you can’t. Ig another comparison is Red Wedding (if u wanna use GOT) but that seems a bit extreme…maybe we describe Marinefold as RW
I trust them. I was super impressed with how they were able to condense a lot of stuff down into season 1. Also the casting has been on point so far. They really should be smart enough to spend the money on this series, it is immensely popular and if they do it well it will continue to bring in viewers. As for Alabasta, I feel like I'm the only one that found it unnecessarily long and I never cared about Vivi. Season 3 will hopefully cut out a lot of redundant scenes and make that a more interesting arc. They really should film seasons back to back. It takes way too long between seasons. Filming back to back also will help mitigate those casting issues.
You’re right. The batch release of the full season can be detrimental. Netflix should do it the way they release their realities or shows from other nations. Release 3-4 and then 1 or 2 for the rest of the season.
I really thought they'd bump it up to like 10 episodes cut out whiskey peak and do alabasta this season and I was on board for that plan. My only real concern is that they need to keep moving so there's not a billion seasons. But if oda and matt think this is the way then let's for it!
Whiskey peak is where the buildup for alabasta kicks off. Us animanga fans have the luxury of knowing everything. However the exclusive live action fans don't know anything about all these stuff. Gotta get them on board with the adventure too. They need it more than us. And if Netflix wants OP to be one of their main money maker they will have to trust matt and oda
if we ever do get to marineford and summit war seasons, they will definitely be released in parts. when a series at netflix becomes established, and they have a few seasons out, they start releasing it in parts.
I'm confident that if Stranger Things and Sense8 were on linear TV, in a big chanel like HBO or Showtime, or ABC, it would absolutely be the new Game of Thrones or something. Stranger Things is so crafted around the misteries i can't undestand why Netflix never switched to weekly. I think their model sould be kept to show that aren't as big as One Piece, Avatar, and others. Shows like One Piece (reports estmated to cost around 18milion for episode), should be Weekly because you force the audience to keep their signature to watch it every single week and you allow it to benfefit for all other goods of weekly shows, the build up, the fomo, the theories. Netflix put aboslute bangers throught the years. Shows that would trive on HBO or AMC, but got canceled on Season 1 or 2 simply because the binge watching model doesn't work for every single story. I would say for mostly of the TV shows it doesn't, but people are on FOMO and thats why a lot of them do it. I also think the aging is actually a good thing to one piece show. It is strange that they crossed so many islands a did so many things and it all happened in a couple of months. And watch the cast getting older with their characters would actually be cool. Would be a reverse Percy Jackson. Because series like HP and PJ&O showed kids growing up to be adults. But One Piece can show young adults growing to their prime maturity. Also, imagine see ppl like Miwhalk and Shanks older and still being bad ass. In thing would be cool AF. I don't know if one piece will thrive, but i belive if they get Drum Island and Alabasta right, they will hook up the fans same way the anime did and i belive Netflix is actually thinking on the long run. They know one piece has the potential to keep growing because the anime is out there for 25 years and still getting new fans, and i think they want to capture that fanbase, just the same with Avatar. One Piece, Avatar, Wednesday and Bridgerton are probably the next top shows on netflix priority right now. I'm really afraid about Skypea. But Water 7-Ennies Lobby, Thiller Bark-Sabaody e Impel Down-Marineford are all bangers. I really belive if we past Skypea, the show will grow in a momentum that only stops on Marineford War. Honestly, I really think Alabasta should've been part of this season, because now you've got this entire season of conflict building up that's now gonna stat unresolved until the start of the following season and end on a side plot instead. IMO they should've extended the number of episodes in the season, or if that was truly impossible, cut Drum Island out of this saga, but make it the start of season 3. Because as much as I love Chopper, he can be lifted out of the Alabasta saga without too much difficulty because of how isolated his arc is from the rest of that Saga. Hell, I'd say it might even fit better as the start of Skypeia since Drum Island being destroyed and Wapol fleeing it is tied to Blackbeard. All you'd really have to do is have Usopp either fight Mr. 4 and Ms Merry Christmas on his own or pair him with a side character to take them on, like Karoo. Outside of that one fight, Chopper doesn't contribute too much to Alabasta as a whole that can't be rewritten to accommodate that change fairly easily.
I wonder if they'll use practical effects for brain point chopper. It could be a lot cheaper that way and still look good. Jurrasic Park still looks good (I know animatronics aren't cheap, but the idea that it's mostly practical effects is my point). Yoda from the first three movies is still pretty good. I think it's possible. They could even do a split between practical and CGI to make it look better.
So many people wanted Erin and yes she is besutifull and looks like Robin but idk why Lera have that vibe of seriousness and serenity that makes her looks mature i mean the actress is 31 or 32 im not sure. Oh and i hope Iñaki (Luffy) improves his acting skills. A little bit more natural not so cringe.
its sad that higher ups in any work like this have words that are heavy and could make the show suck. but we all know that the internet can bully them, can even shift the stocks or money and their lives to an UNHEALTHY AND DANGEROUS territory, just like the ugly sonic. SO i will just trust the internet and the passionate people working in this live action to pull through and make sure it gets the love it deserves.

they should have a slight tweak to the live action story. Simply by allowing the characters to age accordingly. stretch out the timeframes a bit in the story so it lines up well. That would allow for them to finish the show without it being wierd how luffy is all of a sudden a 28 year old.
Pretty sure they'll just say they sailed for longer periods (as in it might've been a week in the manga/anime, but here they sailed for a month between islands etc) - seems like the simplest way to neatly cover up production times.
Smashing 5arcs into 8 episodes of around 45-60min each ... I got that bad feeling that a lot of important things will be scratched, a lot of funny events ignored, the mash-up of events/stories of caracters and most importantly, in this Netflix version , will the goal quest of one piece be The One Piece itself and all that the story/intrigues that it involves ... ??!

I think for sure it will get to S3 with S3 only being Alabasta. If they go after that it will get to S5 with Jaya Skypea being s4 and long ring, water 7 enniess lobby s5.
If he's Ace I will be so unhappy because so far the casting did so good with casting people that are fresh to me. I want to keep One Piece as a world that feels unique to me and as a massive Cobra Kai fan, casting him as Ace wouldn't work for me. He has a better look than the other guy that is rumored to be Ace but he is Miguel and I don't think I can disconnect that in my mind. Also my theory is they will tease Ace at some point without showing him and we will get the reveal for s3.
I'm pretty sure Cobra wiil have plenty screen time, just beacouse they will probably add scenes of old reverie, where young Vivi meet wapol, and it would be a good momento to stsrt teasing the world goverment

maybe only 5 - if they continue being able to fit five story arc into 1 season like they did with season 1, we should be all the way caught up in just about 8 seasons (depending on how many arcs are in the final saga and if they take longer to tell some story arcs than they do others i.e. fishman island, thriller bark, marineford etc).
That Matt Owens (likely with Oda's backing) was able to push back against execs and not get fired means they recognized how important he is to the success of this show.
If Matt Owens was ever forced off the show I'd instantly know it's going to be shit and all my interest would instantly evaporate. I'd honestly probably unsub from Netflix, since I only subbed to watch OPLA.

Actually Karoo is very manageable. He only appears for a short comic relief scene with Miss Wednesday in Whiskey Peak and stays on the ship/ almost freezes to death for the whole of Drum Island. His big scenes are on Little Garden and Chopper is not there yet. Even during Alabasta as soon as they land he is sent ahead to the palace with a letter effectively removing him from the first part of the story and only comes back for a little bit in the second half where he is immediately beaten. With some work around he is very doable.
They could use a well trained large bird for most of his standing roles lol. It would even be a good cgi base if they can get the bird to wear a little green hat lol.
Unfortunately I'm calling that Camille will probably be cut it will be sad but I think it's one of those characters that they just don't need.

I'd say Baby Yoda actully IS a good approach for Chopper.
He's a series regular and he's not made out of CGI, he's an animatronic puppet. His popularity alone showed how much people were actually willing to accept.

I really like the casting of Miss Wednesday. I recently rewatched Bridgerton and she is excellent in it. And I noticed although this cast confirmed it, they are casting characters in a non-spoiler way for “Live Action Onlys” (I still can’t believe that’s a thing. So the person playing Miss All Sunday will be cast as Miss All Sunday, not [SPOILER]. These castings have made me even more excited.
See the Live Action casting Barto for Loguetown even though the Live Action will likely never get to Dressrosa is what I want WIT to do in their remake. Add in references and foreshadowing that aren't in Tori's anime or the manga, like Barto at Loguetown, a news article, or a Marine report about one of the other Supernovas, etc.
By God I hope WIT incorporates cover stories! One Piece had it's own filler built in!

I think drum island is a pretty underrated arc and can have a good satisfying ending but they really need to give us a more threatening villain than wapol. Possibilities could be using Mr 3 pulling the strings with Miss Sunday on order from crocodile and they clash at drum island instead of little garden. The live action is its own unique adaptation so I think this could work. Then have the B plot with smoker and tashigi in alabasta facing crocodile at the climax. They need to draw up hype for season 3 and Wapol doesn't cut it.
Wapol absolutely can cut it if they just make him a little more menacing for the live action and maybe introduce him a bit earlier.
Hiruluk's speech and ending the season with a teaser of Croc would get people hype for s3
They need to double down on the "sick nation" idea and how Hililuk is the doctor who saves nations. It'll be more political thriller than other arcs, but it's the only way for the idea to work
They need to connect loguetown, WP, LG to drum island for it to work as a finale of the season.

They are able to do this because Oda owns the entire rights of One Piece. It also works that it is a story that is still ongoing. Most other live actions are from manga/anime that already ended which makes most mangaka more likely to accept whatever a western film company wants to change. It's a miracle that One Piece is still running, Oda is fighting for the story and Matt Owens is willing to respect what Oda wants. Sadly nowadays not many shows are like this to their source material anymore.

Releasing an all season in one go is really some bad decision from Netflix for high expectancy show.
Because if you release all directly, the people invested will watch it then maybe talk about it the day or week after at their work or with family which could not have the time to see a full season show, and that's sometimes all. While with an extended release more people could catch the train when their coworker talk about the last episode.
I understand that maybe a one episode a week is really a slow (and a bit counter-induitive for their prime market), but they could easly increase the number of episode.
Just limit the diffusion within a full month, releasing 2 or 3 episodes a week (so about 10 for the season). You can even use it as a marketing thing, the "[name of the series] Month" and advertise it as the next big thing (for at least this month).
Limiting episode release just means people won't watch it til it's all out, I have to deal with this for EVERY show cause my friend has OCD. Don't do that

You know what, I think being cautious with content in the beginning is really important now. This is the GRAND LINE, we're talking about. This is the culmination of the start of everyone's dreams. This will be the first impression of the truly important feasts. And what if One Piece Live Action ends prematurely? You'll still have these phenomenally paced next two seasons (lots of retroactive new Oda stuff will be put into place, too, in Season 2, and Season 3 can now be truly glorious) - rather than historical footage of things being rushed to an ending that doesn't exist.
This will let the casual world know, what the fans were talking about when they were disappointed with the pacing of Season 1.
I also believe the passage of time in one piece is unbelievable. All those events before the time skip happens in a few months is impossible. It makes it look like the world is small and they can hop from island to island that fast. For one thing they're using sails not engines. Maybe they stay in the island at most 1 week but most of the time they're traveling. So them aging in the live action as the season progresses is more realistic.
Executives giving "World Government" vibes and Matt Owens fighting them to keep OPLA alive it's just so ironic.

It can be difficult to get actors to return after some time, but I feel like you're forgetting the franchise were talking about. A lot of the actors seem pretty dedicated to bringing this story to life, I feel like most if not all actors accepting a certain role would be willing to say no to work in the future when their time comes. Sure, to most this is just a regular show, but to the people who love it their dedicated to it. We have actors like the main cast who are fully dedicated to their roles, Emily basically trained her whole life for this moment. If this show is a constant success, that means it will be a commitment from the jump! It's a long running show, where characters come and go constantly, you don't just take a role knowing you won't come back later.

It doesn't make sense if he is Ace. Ace shouldn't be played by a latino actor since Gol D Roger has been played by an American actor. Ace is not a biological brother to Luffy, so he doesn't need to be latino.

Chopper being in heavy point all the time would be the cheapest route. And definitely understandable from that viewpoint of saving on costs.
But it would also show a lack of resolve to provide your best effort. Fans expect the cute character everyone knows Chopper to be. Skimping out on that by taking the easy route will always deliver the expected disappointed reaction from fans. The director and crew have shown they're willing to provide their best for this adaptation, so I have faith they will find a way to try and meet fan expectations.

Adding Bart is great and there is room for Ace. Besides the end of Drum he could run into Buggy and have that drinking scene. Buggy could get arrested by Smoker and give Smoker more to do like they did with Garp. I think anyone important they cast they're going have to give more work to/make some changes.

Even from money perspective it's stupid when they can make more seasons out of such amazing source material. They should focus on putting more money and effort into this series to pump out seasons faster to catch up with story before actors age too much. OPLA have potential to be Netflix next flagship show once Stranger things end.
I’m only halfway through the manga, and I have friends who are caught up, and I’m convinced the crew swapping game Foxy plays will come back in a pivotal dramatic moment, but my friends say it won’t happen. Remember though, Elbaf is first mentioned in Drum Island, and from what I hear it’s finally coming to fruition in current day one piece. I think Foxy was just extremely early set up for something big coming. And because of that I think they won’t skip it, I think it’ll be a one off episode that ends with introducing Aokiji to set up Water 7 and Enies Lobby.
Oda is really close to the showrunners and writters and we got a foxy poster on episode 1, so i totally agree w you. Im curenly on the beggining of Punk Hazard arc and i stopped One Piece 10 years ago because... life happens. Now i'm rewatching everything from start and bro, it's amazing how mutch setup they did. And the show is no different, like, first Zoro scene he's killing a Baroque Works guy. Now we'll probably get back to it and casuals will have the same effect we had "oh, the guy zoro killed, the card" etc. One Piece is proabably the single modern thing comparable to Lord of Rings in terms of development and craft.
I'm glad Matt is fighting for the right flow of the story. One Piece will literally won't make any sense if they skip canon arcs.

If they get that far, I can see Netflix changing their minds and making One Piece Weekly for the Water 7/Enies Lobby season, (maybe expand the season to 12 episodes so you easily fit Long Ring Long land as well as the escape and end of Enies Lobby, and possibly push Post Enies to open season 6 and ends with Sabody (if you can do 2 with Post Enies, 3-4 with Sabody, then you get 5 or 6 with Thriller Bark. Expanding the season gives an excuse to change the delivery format, right now we are at a shifting societal perspective on weekly serial formats so 5-6 years from now it will have evolved further, and also the success to get to a season 5 could justify a reinvestment in the series to change format and maybe up the season episode count).
water 7/ Enies Lobby gonna take 15-16 episodes minimum. Way to ellaborate and important to leave to chance on one season.

Well.. maybe you are right and I just proved your point...Still, I wouldn't put it past them to figure out how to put it into 13. (And I feel like I'm missing the flashbacks in this explanation, so 16 might be perfect)
I mean honestly doing arabasta might have been the better option in terms of main stream media sucess honestly I think people who are watching for the first time will think this season is very slow and not as impactfull. Hopefully the show will still get season 3 4 and so on and they make it work.
Hearing all the difficulties with Chopper and Karoo makes me think about Fishman Island or Zou. Netflix better make that effects breakthrough or absolutely make the bank of their lives in Summit War and Dressrosa otherwise they're gonna suffer the whole arc.
Chopper isn't a mink though, they might have to adapt Zou more in line with how they designed Merry for the live action - more emphasis on humanoid and subtle animal traits. I expect Bebo to big a big soft dude with polar bear ears and such.

I think they’ll have the Ace scene in Drum Kingdom as an end credit scene like Smoker at the end of s1 (but they don’t need to have an actor casted to do that just like they did with Smoker). All they need to do is have a character mention that there was someone looking for Luffy after they’ve left the island and maybe have a flashback to the scene. I don’t think they’ll spend the entire season 3 in Alabasta (I mean it could happen, I just don’t think so), so Ace and Blackbeards introductions will be big moments in season 3 prepping for future seasons. Ofc, s3 hasn’t been confirmed, but that’s just my thoughts.

Joe Manganienello is actually a pretty big actor. He was in True Blood, for one. I've never seen it but i have friends who do. He's a big guy and would look great as Crocodile.
I knew they'd bring in Bartolomeo. We didn't see originally that Dragon was in the crowd when Gold Roger was executed - not the first time we were shown the execution. Later on they showed us that scene again reanimated and showed us that Dragon was there in the crowd. We saw Dragon briefly in the opening scene of the live action series - that is we saw someone in a green cloak and hood standing near where the rest of the marines were standing.
I knew that would be a good precedent to show us Bartolomeo in loguetown the first time we went there

I think they could do Karu pretty well with puppet work and a small amount of cgi for say his feet and so it’s not too expensive just have him wait on the ship the whole time. I like Karu

I'm a supporter of Heavy Point being the default mode of chopper on this version. Because having Brain Point as the default would require either a tiny CG pet that is bound to look terrible, or a child or preteen actor... do I have to explain why that's a huge risk at best and a terrible idea at worst?
However, I hope they DON'T make a "big breakthrough in VFS that makes them cost less" is not a good idea. CG artists are already not-unionized , and are being paid misery rates due to it (That's a big part of why Disney is getting SO reliant on CG).

Netflix has started spliting their seasons in half. Half comes out and then a month or two the 2nd half drops. 8 episodes for their 1st season did hurt somewhat cause parts got rushed.

What if they did an Ace story as a throughline side story the way they did for Colby and Garp in season one? Ace traipsing around the Grand Line then the season ends with them meeting up on Alabasta. That’s be fun and a good way to previews some future parts of the grand line, also setting up Whitebeard and Blackbeard.
Doubt they have the time for it, but if you told me they would have so much of Colbymeppo in season one and got through Arlong Park I’d have said that’s impossible too.
I’ve been describing Sabaody as an Infinity War level event…it gets real and you want to look away but you can’t. Ig another comparison is Red Wedding (if u wanna use GOT) but that seems a bit extreme…maybe we describe Marinefold as RW
I trust them. I was super impressed with how they were able to condense a lot of stuff down into season 1.
Also the casting has been on point so far.
They really should be smart enough to spend the money on this series, it is immensely popular and if they do it well it will continue to bring in viewers.
As for Alabasta, I feel like I'm the only one that found it unnecessarily long and I never cared about Vivi. Season 3 will hopefully cut out a lot of redundant scenes and make that a more interesting arc.
They really should film seasons back to back. It takes way too long between seasons. Filming back to back also will help mitigate those casting issues.
I’m just glad they’re giving things the time to develop properly. Though what I worry about in particular is if best boy Karoo will be in the series.

You’re right. The batch release of the full season can be detrimental. Netflix should do it the way they release their realities or shows from other nations. Release 3-4 and then 1 or 2 for the rest of the season.

I really thought they'd bump it up to like 10 episodes cut out whiskey peak and do alabasta this season and I was on board for that plan. My only real concern is that they need to keep moving so there's not a billion seasons. But if oda and matt think this is the way then let's for it!

Whiskey peak is where the buildup for alabasta kicks off. Us animanga fans have the luxury of knowing everything. However the exclusive live action fans don't know anything about all these stuff. Gotta get them on board with the adventure too. They need it more than us. And if Netflix wants OP to be one of their main money maker they will have to trust matt and oda

if we ever do get to marineford and summit war seasons, they will definitely be released in parts. when a series at netflix becomes established, and they have a few seasons out, they start releasing it in parts.

I'm confident that if Stranger Things and Sense8 were on linear TV, in a big chanel like HBO or Showtime, or ABC, it would absolutely be the new Game of Thrones or something. Stranger Things is so crafted around the misteries i can't undestand why Netflix never switched to weekly. I think their model sould be kept to show that aren't as big as One Piece, Avatar, and others. Shows like One Piece (reports estmated to cost around 18milion for episode), should be Weekly because you force the audience to keep their signature to watch it every single week and you allow it to benfefit for all other goods of weekly shows, the build up, the fomo, the theories. Netflix put aboslute bangers throught the years. Shows that would trive on HBO or AMC, but got canceled on Season 1 or 2 simply because the binge watching model doesn't work for every single story. I would say for mostly of the TV shows it doesn't, but people are on FOMO and thats why a lot of them do it.
I also think the aging is actually a good thing to one piece show. It is strange that they crossed so many islands a did so many things and it all happened in a couple of months. And watch the cast getting older with their characters would actually be cool. Would be a reverse Percy Jackson. Because series like HP and PJ&O showed kids growing up to be adults. But One Piece can show young adults growing to their prime maturity. Also, imagine see ppl like Miwhalk and Shanks older and still being bad ass. In thing would be cool AF. I don't know if one piece will thrive, but i belive if they get Drum Island and Alabasta right, they will hook up the fans same way the anime did and i belive Netflix is actually thinking on the long run. They know one piece has the potential to keep growing because the anime is out there for 25 years and still getting new fans, and i think they want to capture that fanbase, just the same with Avatar. One Piece, Avatar, Wednesday and Bridgerton are probably the next top shows on netflix priority right now. I'm really afraid about Skypea. But Water 7-Ennies Lobby, Thiller Bark-Sabaody e Impel Down-Marineford are all bangers. I really belive if we past Skypea, the show will grow in a momentum that only stops on Marineford War.

Honestly, I really think Alabasta should've been part of this season, because now you've got this entire season of conflict building up that's now gonna stat unresolved until the start of the following season and end on a side plot instead. IMO they should've extended the number of episodes in the season, or if that was truly impossible, cut Drum Island out of this saga, but make it the start of season 3. Because as much as I love Chopper, he can be lifted out of the Alabasta saga without too much difficulty because of how isolated his arc is from the rest of that Saga. Hell, I'd say it might even fit better as the start of Skypeia since Drum Island being destroyed and Wapol fleeing it is tied to Blackbeard. All you'd really have to do is have Usopp either fight Mr. 4 and Ms Merry Christmas on his own or pair him with a side character to take them on, like Karoo. Outside of that one fight, Chopper doesn't contribute too much to Alabasta as a whole that can't be rewritten to accommodate that change fairly easily.
I wonder if they'll use practical effects for brain point chopper. It could be a lot cheaper that way and still look good. Jurrasic Park still looks good (I know animatronics aren't cheap, but the idea that it's mostly practical effects is my point). Yoda from the first three movies is still pretty good. I think it's possible. They could even do a split between practical and CGI to make it look better.
Chopper looks so good they keep having cast members complimenting him.
They are definitely not skipping Long Ring Long Land because its one of Matt Owen's favorite arcs.
Joe Manganiello would be awesome, plus he's a fellow nerd so I am sure he would do the role justice.
So many people wanted Erin and yes she is besutifull and looks like Robin but idk why Lera have that vibe of seriousness and serenity that makes her looks mature i mean the actress is 31 or 32 im not sure.
Oh and i hope Iñaki (Luffy) improves his acting skills. A little bit more natural not so cringe.

its sad that higher ups in any work like this have words that are heavy and could make the show suck. but we all know that the internet can bully them, can even shift the stocks or money and their lives to an UNHEALTHY AND DANGEROUS territory, just like the ugly sonic. SO i will just trust the internet and the passionate people working in this live action to pull through and make sure it gets the love it deserves.

Season 5 Water 7 and Eneis Lobby
Season 6 Thriller Bark and end with Sabaody
Season 7 Impel Down and Marineford (wrapping everything up pre time skip) (maybe have an episode or two with adventures of the Strawhats)
No way in hell should they cram water 7 and Enies lobby into One Season. Its way too important to cram into one season.

going deeper into the seasons, i feel like the budget problems gonna bring lots of dissapointments in the future.
they should have a slight tweak to the live action story. Simply by allowing the characters to age accordingly. stretch out the timeframes a bit in the story so it lines up well. That would allow for them to finish the show without it being wierd how luffy is all of a sudden a 28 year old.
Pretty sure they'll just say they sailed for longer periods (as in it might've been a week in the manga/anime, but here they sailed for a month between islands etc) - seems like the simplest way to neatly cover up production times.
Smashing 5arcs into 8 episodes of around 45-60min each ... I got that bad feeling that a lot of important things will be scratched, a lot of funny events ignored, the mash-up of events/stories of caracters and most importantly, in this Netflix version , will the goal quest of one piece be The One Piece itself and all that the story/intrigues that it involves ... ??!
Wasnt bartalmao in the roger execution scene along with young shank and others? In episode 1 season 1, just like the anime flashback much later (but what about the treasure? What about the One Piece??)
I think for sure it will get to S3 with S3 only being Alabasta. If they go after that it will get to S5 with Jaya Skypea being s4 and long ring, water 7 enniess lobby s5.
If he's Ace I will be so unhappy because so far the casting did so good with casting people that are fresh to me. I want to keep One Piece as a world that feels unique to me and as a massive Cobra Kai fan, casting him as Ace wouldn't work for me. He has a better look than the other guy that is rumored to be Ace but he is Miguel and I don't think I can disconnect that in my mind. Also my theory is they will tease Ace at some point without showing him and we will get the reveal for s3.
Joe Manganiello would be a better Dragon or Smoker, but I’d be happy with seeing him. He’s talented eye candy.
I'm pretty sure Cobra wiil have plenty screen time, just beacouse they will probably add scenes of old reverie, where young Vivi meet wapol, and it would be a good momento to stsrt teasing the world goverment
