I thank you for sharing this. I recently fitted my doors and had to make shims for all 4. In my case with the hinge closed all the way, the door was still several inches from closing. A shim under the outside bolt/screw rotated the hinge enough to fit beautifully. Then a little turnbuckle tightening and the front fit the body perfectly. Took a day per door which your experience made me appreciate instead of curse. 😎

My TD has a smaller slotted screw at the top hinge and no third hole in the bottom hinge. Love your videos! Keep them coming!

Hi Jamie. The top hinge has three holes on the body side of the hinge. Two conical machine screws and one flat head screw. I will take a picture and send it to you of my hinges. I just got done fitting new pins after reaming the hinge. Nice and tight now.

My 1951 TD has two bolts and one wood screw to secure each door to the body. I believe that to be stock. I, too, have a door that is a bit springy but fits well. The brass hinge will need to be ground down a bit on the inside where the interference occurs. Best of luck with the MG project and keep those videos coming.

I found this to be the most time consuming and frustrating thing to do on my TD as well! When you install the rubber door bumpers after paint, you might have to go through this again. Coming along nicely! Enjoying the story so far.

2 years too late but 3 holes in the top hinge, 2 in the bottom. 👍
It may still help to know there is an exploded view of everything on the moss website.

Thanks. These doors can be a PIA to fit properly. Now I’m having issues lining up he bonnet panels. If it’s not one thing, it’s another!

Jaime also check your outer door skin to make sure the inner lip is not contacting the body before the door closes all the way. I ran into that with my TF. It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks like your lower hinge is not "nesting" in the pocket all the way because of binding on the upper and lower edges. Maybe a couple of persuasive taps with a hammer and dolly to make the recess wider would help. The hinge should be flat against the hinge post. It looks like you have a gap there. Same with the door hinge post.

Sorry I couldn’t be there to help😕 Swinging doors is part of my trade & there are a lot of tricks to get them to ‘behave’👌🏼 Perseverance now will definitely save lots of headaches & potential paint damage later

Since I’ve put my body tub back onto the chassis after painting I have noticed I have to readjust the RHS door again as it has moved

TF has 3 holes in the top hinge, 2 in the bottom hinge. TD should be the same.

I urge you to install and fit the $#@!@ door latches NOW before you start tapping with that little hammer! The latches have a life of their own (or is it death)!! Also, you might hit those brass hinges with your buffing wheel and apply some of the stuff that keeps them shiny (sorry, I don't remember the product name but its worked on mine for 9 years now!). And paint the car before even thinking you're done with those @#!@#$ doors! I speak from experience!!

I just found it. It's called "lacquer for brass". Google finds several brands.

Thanks Ed. I’ll fit the latches first before anything else. I’m not sure if I will be polishing the hinges or painting them. What was original?

      @@MGREBUILD I don't know, but I like them polished!

The hinges needs to be filed . They are not closing far enough . Not at right angle . Cheap China made hinges .

Thanks Jeff. These are the original hinges. I have done more work on the door and now it fits just right.
