His dad was Italian and they’d listen to opera. He lost his dad in 2017 and it was devastating for him. I totally agree that if anyone could train and be this great but he stands head and shoulders above all others. His drive and work ethic and massive intellect just plain shine. He sees what he wants and figures it out! Then goes above by miles! Thanks for the reaction it was great!

Thank you once again for a wonderful honest reaction to Dan, and for finally gettingaround to this one.
    You're doing a great job.
I have heard this legendary song sung by all the greatest most powerful opera singers ever, Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo, and I've hears it live by 3 tenors at an Andre Rieu concert.
None, and i mean NONE of them, ever managed to bring the true power and emotion through this song, the way Dan does here.
You are so totally right, you can train for a lifetime, but if you don't have IT, (in my book IT means the divine spark, the touch of Spirit) then you just won't be able to do THIS.
And i totally understand your need to process that.
After the first time i heard and saw Dan's video with this song, i couldn't listen to anything at all, and just sat literally staring into nothingness, until my mind could start working again.

Dan has been singing all his life. He said he couldn't speak as a child and his mom was told by the doctor to encourage his singing (which she obviously did). But after he got out of the Army, he started getting vocal training, which he continued for at least ten years. He doesn't believe in talent, and says his skills were developed through years of hard work and practice.

@@karinkrenn Like Dan, I don't care for the word "talent" because it implies a person is just born with their skill. As you said, there is work involved, often very hard work. I think we are all born with the ability to learn. Certain things are easier for some people to learn than others. But you still have to actually put in the time and effort to LEARN the skill.

I do agree that Dan has worked EXTREMELY hard to make his dream of BEING able to sing like this. However, "Play Again" is also right, in that he was born for this. You don't get that DRIVE to sing and to push yourself to the limits and be both faithful to the dream and to then persevere in that dream, without being MEANT to do what you ultimately will train yourself to do. This applies to everything you approach in life. Music is rather unique, though, because it's so basic to human NEED.

    • @karinkrenn

Agree, without work talent is without real value.
But on the other hand, you can work your whole life, without the talent you might reach a fairly high level of skill, but you'll never reach true excellence.
To say this level of greatness is reached solely though hard work and dedication, is belittling of the divine gift he has.

I agree with you, sir, regarding the "calling" on Dan to do what He does so extremely well. We all know that as he has explained it many times, he doesn't feel he was (or that anyone is) born with a talent, and that he has worked extremely hard to train to do this, and that anyone would be the same.
However, you, I believe are also correct. If one never has the drive TO get the training and to even work so hard to train HIMSELF, or doesn't love the thing he's training for, enough to SPEND the time to make it WORK like Dan does, it will never happen.
You may have noticed that Dan pretty much always chooses songs of POWER, TRIUMPH, and VICTORY. This is one of those. Those things are very important to him.
This is why you are also right about how he FEELS the music. Don't let go of that stance. You have nailed it. Thank you!
EDIT: I would ALSO love to see Dan and Davi do the music you suggested! You should definitely go to Davi's channel (I have a feeling you've already been there), and suggest that to him!!! 😀

Great reaction, as always. On the talent vs. training issue, I agree with you. Dan insists it’s just hard work, but I remember a pitching coach (baseball) once saying, “You can’t teach a 98 mile fastball.” Profound, right? It’s partly biomechanics, partly focus and hard work on technique, and partly experience, but if a 90MPH pitcher comes into the majors, works very hard on technique, and bulks up in the weight room, he MIGHT get to 92. The vast majority of pitchers will never reach 98 no matter how sincerely hard they try. And 1000 aspiring singers could work hard for ten years and never come close to the level Dan has reached. Just my two cents! I’m a voice junkie from way back, and I’m still astonished by Dan. Thanks again.

I agree with you 100%. I could train for 20 years and still not be able to sing Happy Birthday. You are born with that “seed” or you aren’t. Great reaction!

I have heard so many versions of this song, I always wait for 'vincera' to see what they'll do ☺️. There are others out there who can do this. A few weeks ago a local artist did this song at the end of a 2 hr concert and nailed it.
Dan is amazing at what he does and he won't put out a song that's not perfect.
