Today, ‪@DanVasc‬ stepped into the Opera world and showed how versatile he truly is! Such a technical performance with great execution and power! Opera is a genre I don't know a whole lot about so it was fun going on that journey with an incredible singer like Dan! Dan’s father was NOT Italian, he was Brazilian, his father’s mother was from Italy. And answering your question Dan had singing classes with Ken Tamplin, who shows up quickly in Dan’s rendition of “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from Disney movie Mulan. Dan has worked hard for the last 10 years and it has paid off, now he’s reaping the harvest, very well deserved. Your reactions to Dan are precise, you go straight to the point. Also, if you meant to compare the meaning in "Amazing Grace" as OPPOSING the meaning in "The Number of the Beast," think again. It's God's GRACE that covers both situations, and there's a lot of similarity in the songs, in reality. Then, in "O Holy Night" you can see how the other two relate.

Dan has talked about running into his first vocal coach many years later. He said this coach talked the music academy in his town into taking Dan on as a student. He sat down with that coach all these years later and played him a current video of his. He said the coach cried and so did Dan. I wonder if this is the song? Dan did spent a good many years in training to be able to sing like he does. Now no one can compare!

I thought I’d listened to all of them, but I missed that nugget and would like to hear the whole thing if possible. I do remember Dan saying the name Mike or Michael as one of his vocal coaches or teachers, I don’t know if it was the first one or a later one. Wonder which video Dan played for him…

Never mind, Terri, I found it! It’s an Instagram post from July 3, 2022. Dan’s *first* vocal teacher was not Michael. His name was Jonathan Marinho. He started teaching Dan 15 years before the date of Dan’s post and, sadly, passed away from cancer on July 2/22. What a beautiful tribute Dan wrote about him in this post! If it weren’t for Jonathan Marinho we would have heard exactly zero Dan Vasc songs. I am thankful for this man’s investment in Dan’s life.

❤❤❤❤❤ this is So awesome.... Dan's father was Italian he introduced him to Opera many other things, including Elvis. He worked very hard, for many years, to get where he's at now. He is a perfectionist... yes he's been classically trained. Has had lots of training... and worked to get the ability to sing anything he wants to. Metal is his true love tho. This young man knows exactly what he's doing and how to do it... His arrangements are fantastic... I've never heard anyone like him before. Doubt I ever will again. And most of my favorite songs from the 80s... I can't listen to on the radio anymore. He did them and now the original sound terrible LOL

He started singing when he was about two, and was having big problems being able to communicate. His mother was advised to take him to a certain, very helpful man there in Brazil, for just such situations. His mother took him to consult with that man, and can you guess what the man told them?
What is a VERY good way to learn a language, or how to FEEL things that are said? SING whatever it is you want to communicate! So that's what Dan's mother (who was a choir singer already, anyway) did. She taught Dan to SING to them, what it was he needed or wanted, or just anything he wanted to tell them.
I totally understand that! I've been there! My own mom had some of those same problems when she was little, and that's when SHE learned to sing and play violin. She passed that knowledge on to us kids, and it was how I was finally able to stand up in front of people to give a speech, in school. I learned to SING it (at least to practice it, if not actually presenting it in that manner)! It worked! 😀

Yes, and that reminds me that now that you've done THIS one, you should reach into another of Dan's renditions of a song that goes through Hell and comes out TRIUMPHANT: "Son of Pain"
The very first time I heard that song, which has a couple of possible origins that nobody seems to be quite sure of, but both fit the story well, it about knocked me out (literally). I found myself holding my breath and never wanting to breathe again, until I heard the ending. Then I cried buckets.
Plus...I immediately thought of JABEZ. 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (NKJV) says:
9 Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name [a]Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my [b]territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.

Part of why Dan has been so successful with operatic music, besides the training he's had, is that he naturally FEELS what the stories are about. Also, though he sings songs in many languages, he doesn't necessarily know the languages FULLY, yet he studies the lyrics out enough that he emotes in ways that don't happen in English--as IF he fully spoke the languages, which is so fascinating.
He has also said that when he hears some songs, he just naturally knows which ones will lend themselves to either metal or opera, or whichever type of rock he chooses, etc.--partly because of the content of the words.
Then there's the fact that when he sings this in Italian, he knows EXACTLY the correct way to roll his Rs. I've heard others THINK they're doing it correctly, and even though their voices are good, if they can't make the right rolling-R song, it turns me off immediately...always has. My dad (who was 100% Polish (for what that's worth, because there IS no such thing as being genetically Polish). He had been brought up with more than one language, but also learned to fluently speak the languages of the people he helped in the villages, etc., during World War 2, while the motorized and medical infantry unit he was in, followed General Patton everywhere. He told us of SO many different things he learned, while there. Plus he stayed in Italy during what he called "The Occupation," which was when the American troops helped Italy settle OUT of wartime government, into peacetime government.
He already spoke Polish, because though he was a U.S. Citizen, by birth, both of his parents came directly from the Old Country, immigrating through Ellis Island. His stepfather in later years was also Polish, and also spoke both that language and Italian. So I'm very picky about hearing the right sounds for songs like this. Dan doesn't disappoint. 😀
I feel the same when Dan sings "Dawn of Victory" with Fabio Lione--who is Italian. Dan imitated HIS singing when he was learning the song in the first place, so when Fabio went to Dan's fairly new studio and sang the song with Dan, Davi, Gabriel, and Giovanni, all of the guys just fit right together very naturally, with the very powerful voice of Fabio. Oh, and by the way, you are going to HUGELY LOVE that one, because of Gio's DRUMMING!!!
I hope you'll react to that one before too long. It will blow you away, as well as make you very HAPPY, for more than one reason.
In THIS song, there is the matter of life and death for more than one person in the story, so Dan goes with that, and you can definitely feel it. I've listened to DOZENS of others venture into that song, and after hearing Dan sing it just once (and now DOZENS of times...more like over a hundred times), hearing anyone else sing it is like, "Phhhttt...nope!" (That includes Pavarotti.)
To see some of Dan's OWN sorrow rise to the fore, you need to react to his tribute to his dad: "An American Trilogy" (Elvis cover), and then follow that up with Elvis' "Love Me Tender," which comes into play because of someone hearing the other one--very touching, important story. If you shut your eyes when listening to either of those, you are going to think that Elvis HAS to be in the room, but (of course)...he's not. It's OK, though. Dan IS there! 😀

Thanks for the insight and the conversation! That’s a great point on Dan putting in the time and energy to learn those lyrics to be able to fully perform them as they need to be! Taking that extra step makes such a difference!

As others have said, his Dad was Italian and I believe he grew up (at minimum) bilingual; Brazilian Portuguese and Italian. He was definitely trained but I think the trilling of his “r’s” is a combo of training and speaking languages where that is the norm.
If you pay attention to his eyes towards the end you can see him tearing up. I believe this was his Dad’s favorite Aria and they used to listen to it together. His Dad passed in 2017 and he was sad that he was never able to hear him perform this. At least that’s what I’ve read.

So beautifully sung, and very respectably done for a non-professional opera singer. We sure are throwing things at you, aren't we?? This aria was a favorite of his late father, and you can see the emotion Dan brings to it. The final phrase says "At dawn I shall be victorious" - that also fits with the kinds of lyrics he usually chooses, as you will see as you listen to more Dan - as he says, he's all about bringing positive messages. I think it's time you heard his latest, My Heart Will Go On. You might want to listen again to Celine Dion's version first, with the lyrics, because Dan's metalized version blows through like a tornado. But even with the heavy (HEAVY) metal arrangement, you can see Dan's training in his long legato lines, his breath control, his range, his gorgeous chest high notes, and of course his gorgeous high metal screams. It's really mind-blowing. Thanks again for being up for trying all this incredible variety - I'm really enjoying your reaction and analysis.

Thank you so much for the great reaction to this masterpiece. I saw Pavarotti in concert in the early 90s while living in Houston and heard him perform this. I think he'd have been impressed with Dan's performance. Dan brought tears to my eyes with this one.
Btw...if you want to know the words, turn those captions on. The story behind it, from what I can recall, is that the character is facing death come morning if a cruel princess guesses his name. If not, I believe he wins her hand. It's a life or death situation of which he is singing about being victorious.

@@setonhillstudios If/when you do, I would highly suggest that you also listen to and react to Austin's very special rendition of "Bring Him Home."
Austin was trained in musical theater, and Rob was trained in opera, before either of them joined Home Free.
Personally, though I really love both Rob and Austin, and their voices are TREMENDOUS, I flinch when listening to Austin (sigh) butchering the Rs in "Nessun Dorma." As I mentioned earlier, about how Dan knows EXACTLY how to roll them correctly, Austin does not! (Rob does.)
When he sings "Bring Him Home," however, he doesn't have to roll his Rs, plus he really brings out the emotions in that one. His solo version with his friend playing the piano is definitely great, BUT...when he used to sing it with the whole group, some years back, I think it really came across even better (in my opinion).

@@mordeys A lot of people don't seem to understand the training vocalists go through. Just about everyone knows Dan was classicaly trained, but they don't seem to understand that includes learning to pronounce words in multiple languages. You're one of the first I've seen who has made the distinction between singing a language and actually speaking it. I will say the video where Dan said he only speaks two languages was an old one. It's entirely possible he's learned another since then. If so, my guess would be Spanish since that's the most common South American language.

      @GrandmasGotGraceLW 4 месяца назад +2

@@elissahunt Agreed. One of the first things one learns, when being trained in classical music, is to sing Latin words correctly. Personally, I followed that up with studying Latin on my own, which still doesn't mean that I can sit down and speak the language fluently. I do, however, know enough about it, Spanish, and Italian, to understand several other languages pretty well when I hear or read them (that includes Portuguese and Brazilian-Portuguese). Growing up with my dad, I also know a tiny bit of Polish, which relates to some German, as well. There again, when I hear a song sung in those languages, I can basically understand them, and could sing them just fine, if I sat down to listen long enough to do that. Again, though, that doesn't mean I could "speak the language." 😀
