- Here is what our minimalist family house looks like today. We are constantly updating our fixer-upper home so I thought it would be a good time for a minimalist family house tour that is current and up-to-date.

This is the perfect minimalist decoration in my opinion. I never have figured out why no color is permitted in so many homes. I especially liked how you made the green tiles and the old style cupboards work in the kitchen. Question: do you need to rotate plants around TV out for a sun vaccination or do they stay where they are all the time?
Hi Jen, I usually keep the plants where they are because in the morning that whole wall gets a lot of sun. =)
I don’t think it’s a case of no color “permitted” in any way 😝 but often people feel calmer and lighter with white and that relates to minimalism.

So lovely; y'all have done so much. It all looks wonderful. Your house reminds me of 1940s and 50s military homes we lived in many years ago. I always loved them, because they were so well made and sturdy. We had the same kind of tile too. Happy Mother's Day
I have learned to really like the tile colors and vintage feel. Hopefully whenever we redo everything we will keep some of the retro feel. I hope you have a nice Mother's Day =)

What a cozy space. I love that you have everything set up to support your lifestyle. Your garden is gorgeous!
It’s nice, bright home! However, I’d move the home office to that spare space near the kitchen and turn that room for one of the older boys’ room or their collective play room.
I run my whole business out of this office so that would never work for us, but I could see if you didn't need quiet and only had a home computer then maybe that would work.

Thank you for sharing. I’m 63 and just starting this journey… I can’t wait to get there! I’m allowing myself time. Still work full time, two adult kids, and a grandchild on the way. Trying to grow and preserve food for health. Small chunks at a time. My hold up is getting to donation center on my one day off before it’s filled for the day! But we will make it!
Can you make a video on how to find art pieces? I like colorful pictures like you do. But everything is still so farmhouse style and neutral. I would love to find more paintings for my house but I haven’t had much luck. I try to buy my decor from the thrift store because I’m on a tight budget.
Your house is so pretty. I also have a family including 3 kids in a 1950’s fixer upper, but mine is a smaller home on the east coast where housing prices are high, so we had to get creative with space too. Happy Mother’s Day!

Hi, Shannon. Well done! You did a great job minimizing your stuff, and making a nice sense of peace and order. But I noticed that many rooms have waisted space with circulation paths... You should consider reformulating your house plan and simplify circulation. It’s a guess! Just saying!... Love you
Your house is looking beautiful, cosy, calm and relaxing 😊. I love your yard, it is starting to look amazing to! 🙂 I hope you kept a small patch of grass for the baby/kids... it is always good to see and feel nature under your feet/on your skin and it absorbs heat. You can make insect friendly lawn with wild flowers/weeds. Unfortunately the weed sheets on your beds don't work long term.. if you google gardeners advise then say just to weed and wood mulch.. they say the sheets show through with time, the sheets STOP the rain getting to the plants roots (it gets trapped and evaporates out of the mulch on top of the sheets), so you have to water your plants MORE! (Best is through tubes in the ground that take the water under the weed sheets down to the roots). As the plants grow you have to cut it to stop constrains on the growth. The plants roots can grow into the sheets, so you damage the plant when having to remove the sheets in a few years when they start to look a mess...and much more. I have been researching because i am redoing my beds and adjusting my little lawn to be even more insect friendly.
Minimalism does not mean using no colour!... that is just the American interpretation. The same applies to all the well known American minialist you tubers wearing a black t-shirt with jeans uniform!🙄... this also has nothing to do with minimalism which existed long before the American Maria Condo era!

Great video, Shannon. Your home looks very calm and relaxing. I enjoy seeing your plants. I also use plants as decor. I have a few pieces that were my moms. It’s been 7 yrs since she passed and I’m still letting go of some of the “trinkets”/ decor that were hers and isn’t my style. ♥️

Happy Mother's Day! Yes we have had that pothos for a few years now, but it didn't take too long to grow to the ground I have actually cut it many times too. =)

Happy Mother's Day to you and your mom. I think of your lovely home as realistic minimalism. It's achievable and livable, if that makes sense. The colors make it warm and inviting. Did you ever wonder if they even live in those sterile, white, over-the-top minimalistic houses? 😉 Maybe behind the camera they have a garage fully furnished so they at least have a place to sit down. lol
Haha I actually do wonder that with some of the minimal homes I have seen. I guess we are into comfort too. Sometimes I see minimalists don't have beds or couches and that just looks uncomfortable to me.

I don't know how you do it. Watched this one night, thought "nice house" but nothing more, the next I'm diving into another wardrobe and pulling stuff out with the intention of getting rid of the wardrobe and rationalising the furniture in my overcrowded bedroom.

In one of your videos you were changing your tablecloth and you had something under it. Mine slides all over the place. What was it and does it help with sliding?
That does help a little with sliding, but it's mostly to protect my table. With 3 kids and lots of projects its a waterproof table protector. The nice thing is I can just take off the top tablecloth and then we are ready for a craft or project or eating something messy.
Here in Canada, we don’t have family room and living room. We only have a living room. I don’t understand why you need to have both!

Lovely home tour Shannon, thank you. I am always inspired by your videos showing minimalism with a family and still having things around that you love such as your plants and photos. I love having teacups on display and I love photos of my family too. Finding the balance of not having too much out is hard for me. I love what you and Grant are doing in the backyard as well.

Islands are overrated and a trend, they take up so much space!
Luckily we have a lot of space to take up lol. We had one at our previous home and loved it, but I can see if you had no space it wouldn't make sense.

This is a hard question to answer because lately I can't easily find clothes that I like lol. Sometimes I find things a Costco, I have found a few dresses I really like from Amazon (which was a shock for me because normally I don't shop from there). Once in a while I will find something from Khols or Macy's, but most of my clothes I have had forever.
